At the turn of the 19th century, America presented the policy of imperialism and there was a ton of debate over the subject. Some say that imperialism would benefit America by increasing trade and help make this country more powerful. Others say that imperialism would be horrible for America because we are taking over countries without their permission and restricting their choice. The United States should adopt the policy of imperialism because it would help grow our country, increase trade, and help the economy.

Imperialism in third world countries was a very good thing that impacted the world in a very positive way. The countries that we have today would not be here without the hard working civilized America and Great Brittan. True that they benefited; but we owe our gratitude for our world today to them. Civilizing the uncivilized is no easy feat.

Imperialism was a controversial idea that a nation can extend its power outward through means of diplomatic or military force. The spread of disease killed millions of people and helped destroy native cultures. Frederick Jackson Turner’s thesis was that the frontier which is the constant expansion to the west is what defined American democracy. Manifest Destiny was the belief that the United States not only could, but was destined to, stretch from coast to coast. Turners thesis along with manifest destiny are proofs of American imperialism going back to the founding of America.

The regions that were affected by imperialism include Africa, Asia, and Latin America. These region were wanted by the imperialist powers of this time, which were: Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.
