Lindsey Pollak provides suggestions to ease the transition from student to career for the recent, or soon to be college graduate. The lucid writing style she uses in her book provides a sense of comfort to an inevitably stressful period in our lives. Pollak start’s off the chapter encouraging the reader to not worry about the things we have not done, or should have done. It would be easy for me to get caught up on the would’ve, could’ve, should’ve.

The article “Higher Education Has Always Been a Mess” written by Sol Gittleman talks about the roller coaster of a ride that Higher Education has gone on. He starts off saying that in the mid-20th century, academia became idolized, embodying everything great about America while in good times, and yet was still demonized, and embodying everything wrong while times were bad (we still see this today). Today academia is seen as a crazy mixture of both, which in really it is. He then goes on telling the story of how Higher Education came to be in America. After WWII we enjoyed a 30 year golden age, America is still the world leader but it has been lost in the noise, culture, politics and price.

I’ve seen students struggle with being literate and numerate so I’m not even sure they could begin to concern themselves with becoming competent in STEM fields during high school. It would seem that educators might be more helpful to encourage students to use high school to build a breadth of knowledge in many different areas, knowing that college will be the time to build depth. High school could be used to develop the basics and apply elements from many, non-science fields to their work similar to a liberal arts approach. Providing students with a broad-based high school foundation before entering college would help develop them into well-rounded students prepared for whichever program they choose whether it’s a STEM program or not.

Although the facts are based upon a misinterpretation of what colleges entails in the essence that they are not substantially equipping graduates with the necessary life skills hacks. Instead of cultivating capable individuals in the society, college’s distinct purpose has been to equip skillful graduates into diverse careers they wish pursue.

Furthermore, there is something to be said about a culture of college graduates that are holding that diploma because of reasons that are larger than just “because I want to make money”. By having more graduates with this kind of mentality, we will see a larger shift of professionals in the world that have more depth, meaning, and purpose to their existence in their careers. I believe that post-secondary education is crucial, because it builds off of the basis of knowledge received in high school. In this day and age, employers in nearly every field expect some type of degree, in addition to a high school diploma. The ultimate reason behind me progressing on to post secondary stems from my passion towards technology and software development. I would like to contribute to the software and tech world in a meaningful way. However, going through post secondary is the first crucial step in granting such a wish. In other words, post secondary is a must if I would like to pursue my dreams of innovating new software and technology in the future. The second reason for choosing post secondary is because of the level of education a person receives is more concentrated in teaching the core principals of a field that closely relate to a job.

Choosing a Major or degree in college  The Process of deciding upon a college major or degree is an important decision in every college student life; I am one of these students and I discovered that there are several areas of study that interest me. Those degrees are, biomedical engineering, pharmacy, nursing, and physical therapist.   A biomedical engineer is someone whose main job is to come up with solutions for complications in medicine and biology. This field of study is appealing to me because it involves creative work, and it offers the opportunity to be a part of a research team to build better material to improve the life of those who are physically disabled.

Choosing a college major is one of the most important decisions in a person’s life. The effect choosing a college major has on one’s life is much like a small ripple in the middle of a vast ocean. In the students senior year it is a simple seemingly inconsequential click of a button on an online application. But by the time this once meek ripple reaches the shore of the students’ life it has already transformed into a great tidal wave that has influenced their life every step of the way.

In Book One of The Laws of Plato, the Athenian stranger argues that symposia, when properly conducted, is a great boon for education. We learn that symposium’s most basic characterization and understanding is a conference or meeting to discuss a certain concern or subject. Through reading, The Laws of Plato we discover that education is extremely important and it allows the individual to be good and noble which in return presents the educated means and a worthy life in society. How does the stranger propose to put symposium in use and what is the end of education. Symposium is an Athenian exercise that permits citizens to come together and convene and figure out and solve public and private issues.

Completing my Master 's degree was a learning experience for me because I had to juggle my school requirements along with my work schedule and home life. During the two years I took classes full time and worked full time. As the years went on I decided to become more involved in my learning experience by adding a part time job at the Center for Family Excellence as a lead group counselor. When it was time to complete my internship I decided to quit my job to focus on schooling experience. Deciding to have no income for 3 months while I interned at Pittsburgh liberty and Pittsburgh CAPA was the hardest decision I made but was the most beneficial experience.
