I’ve worked as a Police Officer for the past two years and every shift I am required to have a high level of attention to detail. Attention to detail is necessary daily to make decisions when working in the field. As a police officer attention to detail is necessary anywhere from the most routine traffic stop to worst domestic. Without attention to detail you are unable to make accurate decisions and unable to justify what you have done e.g. writing a speeding ticket, writing someone for disorderly conduct, or arresting someone for domestic abuse. The job of the police officers is to protect all citizens from any threat and help us to be safe on the streets. Discretion is necessary because it helps officer with their own opinions and being fair/unfair to certain situations. For example there are two cars and the street light is about to change. One car decided to run the yellow light he or she had enough time to get across but for the other car he or she did not have enough time to get across but still decided to run that red light guess who got the ticket the person who went through the yellow light. Another example is when a person is driving over the speeding limit and having the phone to his or her ear. The officer can pull the driver over and give the driver two tickets one for speeding and one for having the phone to the ear.
After I terminated the relationship with the Chief of Police’s niece he approached me several times and spoke about the relationship. He advised me on more than one occasion that his family wants me to be fired from my position as a police officer because of breaking up with her. The talk by Mr. Darrell Cannon and Mr. G. Flint Taylor was very interesting and eye-opening. Overall, in the recent years my faith in the police and the justice system has been dwindling and after hearing their talk, it only strengthened my fading beliefs. As a little kid, you are taught that the police are to protect, and for the most part they do; but only until they keep their biases out of their work. Prior to the talk, I was not very aware or familiar with the Black Panther Party and the death of Fred Hampton. It was heartbreaking to hear how brutally he was murdered, and how little regard or value was given to him, not a single officer was arrested for that crime.
Situation: As a patrol officer, I am only doing my job when I stop a car for running a red light. Unfortunately, the driver of the car happens to be the mayor. I give her a ticket anyway, but the next morning I get a call into the captain’s office and told in no uncertain terms that I screwed up, for there is an informal policy extending “Courtesy” to city politicians. Hey Sammi, I agree with your perspective of racism. I like how you gave an example of the portrayal of police officers in other states and the shootings of African Americans. It’s unfortunate that police officers would open fire even if the person is unarmed. Your statement of how people are judged within 10 seconds of the meeting is quite accurate, because I’ve heard things from people about others from the first time they meet someone. It is nice knowing how in the Bay Area there aren 't much racial discrimination occurring, because all the cultures has came together and merged.

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to identify the main sources of stress for law enforcement professionals and the effects that these stressors may have. In researching several studies that have been done, on the topic of police stress in recent years, three main categories of stress and several physiological and psychological health consequences were found to be prevalent in policing. Stressors faced by police officers can be either intra-interpersonal, occupational, or organizational. Law enforcement professionals are more likely to have poor health and be at higher risk of a cardiovascular event than the general population.
