The police department of Los Angeles slogan is, “to protect and to serve.” To protect and to serve as in providing safety and assistance. As of November 29, 2015, 1,077 citizens have been killed by a United States’ police. That is equivalent to at least one death every eight hours. Do you feel protected? Are we protected? Police Brutality is not a racial issue, it’s a social issue. Police brutality is a serious social issue occurring in the United States to say that we are united. This is a vital affair that is needed to be addressed to the three branches of government as soon as possible.
This is not a racial issue, this is a social problem. By July of 2015, the number of police- related deaths extended to 664 making the country’s police force one of the deadliest in the USA. Out of the total of 644 deaths, 321 were Caucasian fatalities, 174 were African Americans, and 96 were Hispanics. According to the reports, 578 of these deaths were involved guns, others involved car

Cops are indicted in less than one percent of killings compared to the rate of citizens which is ninety percent. Why policemen are not charged for a crime that is clear that they committed? For example, in Bridgetown, New Jersey on December 30th, 2014. Jerame Reid was shot by Braheme Days and Roger Warley. Reid advocated he would get out the car and on the ground ensuring the officers that he didn’t have anything but Days stated not to and made a remark, “Reid would be dead if he reaches for anything.” Officer Warley fired one shot and “did not hit anything” according to the prosecutor’s office but Days fired seven shots that struck Reid repeatedly. At the time, Reid was waiting for a settlement for being severely beaten in jail after a 2009 arrest. Both officers were on leave with pay, which later led to the conclusion to not charge the two officers, but it was noticeable that he was shot by Officer Days. Do our lives really
According to the guardians who track police killings the police have killed at least 258 black people. Out of 258 , nine died in police custody, four were killed with stun guns and 232 were shot. The washington post found that 34% of the victims were unarmed black men. Black men from the ages of 15-34 are nine times out of ten more likely to be killed by an police officer. Police officers are not being held accountable
Addressing police brutality must be done with empathy for and awareness of the plight of the African-American community. Historically speaking, there has not been a period wherein the African-American community was not inhibited by institutionalized barriers. American enslavement provided the foundation for later oppressive provisions that are especially prevalent within inner-city, predominantly Black communities, which, incidentally, many of the prominent instances of police brutality have taken place. Political regimes like the “war on drugs,” “school to prison pipeline,” and mass incarceration criminalize and dehumanize the African-American community, and thus affect the collective mindset of the population. I believe that an imperative first step that has not been taken is acknowledging the effects these may have on the Black community.
Evidently, police brutality is running the media lately, this is not so secretive but rather painful to hear. “Michael Brown’s murder represents the tip of a body pile... several videos have emerged of police assaulting people... for reasons justifiable only to the insane.” He alludes to one of the biggest police brutality murder cases in the country and continues by bringing up other brutality cases similar to that; the heroes who need to protect everyone as their legal job, are the ones hurting those in need.
Many people, like myself, believe that police officers do not always get in trouble when situations like police racism or brutality happen. They do not think about getting in trouble because most of them literally don 't at all. When cops get caught for illegal actions they are just going to get in trouble by there own friends on the force, just to be put on paid leave. Not being caught is a big issue and is mainly why cops think that they can do whatever they want and completely get away with it. In many
Fatal Police Shootings “27 percent of African Americans are killed by the law enforcement” (Cooke 1) most of these are from fatal police shootings. Fatal police shootings have become an epidemic. The majorities of fatal police shootings are justified as homicides or have not been fully investigated. Plenty of cases have been closed due to false accusations. The turning point occurred when Martin Luther King Jr., Rodney King and many more were brutality beaten and or killed by police officers.
There is a point in everyone’s life where they are scared of a police officer pulling them over. The fear is usually getting a costly ticket or taken under arrest; However, darker skinned citizens now have to worry about police brutality. Police brutality is the use of excessive and unnecessary force by police when dealing with civilians. Over the years, the country has been exposed to the truth about what minorities face when pulled over by a racist police officer. Most of the victims from the police mistreatment are from minority groups, therefore, race plays a key role in police brutality.
Assurance in equal justice remains as an overwhelming political principle of American culture. Yet withstanding unbelief exists among numerous racial and ethnic minorities. Their doubt comes as no surprise, given a past filled with differential treatment in the arrangement of criminal equity, an issue particularly clear in police misconduct. Researchers have investigated police responses to racial and ethnic minorities for quite some time, offering sufficient confirmation of minority burden on account of police. These examinations raise doubt about different police techniques of coercive control, maybe none more so than police brutality.
The fact that this is allowed to happen in America makes today’s society part of the problem. The reason the police feel like they can do what they want is because they think they could not be blame for their actions.
So far in the year of 2015, 66 unarmed African Americans have been killed by police authorities. Ever since the death Michael Brown in August 2014, the world has become much more aware of police brutality. According to wisegeek.org, police brutality is “a form of police misconduct in which officers engage in an excessive use of force.” Police brutality against African Americans is an issue that has been causing a lot of controversy in the past year. This issue needs much more awareness than ever before, since there have been many startling cases during and after the Ferguson protest.
This report is showing light to the communities’ response to police brutality particularly in the black communities and also their encounters with police officers. Police brutality is physical violence and great cruelty demonstrated by a police officer. Police brutality and misconduct have existed for many decades and it even has been broadcasted in news stories over America, but nothing has changed. It has happened predominantly to African Americans in lower-income states. Police officers are given slaps on the wrist for taking a life or injuring an innocent person.

As a result, there is a drastic increase of violent outburst between both sides. For the last years, it was reported that 51.5 percent of black were killed by police officers (ibtimes.com). Cops around the United States have been accused of racially profiling black people. This topic has been brought up by everyone around the U.S. and is very controversial. Studies have shown that the majority of deaths by police officers have been people of opposite color in America. Police brutality in America is a growing epidemic that has shown no signs of slowing down. Innocent men, women, and even children have been killed by police officers for no reason.
Police Brutality is an ongoing problem and existent concern in the United States and should be resolved immediately. Law enforcement must function as an element that consists of organized and civilized officers. The presence of police brutality is becoming more of an issue as society grows. The problem posed by the illegal exercise of police power is an ongoing reality for individuals of a disfavored race, class, or sexual orientation. Police brutality must be stopped so that police do not forget who they are serving – not themselves, but the public.
