I’m a person that is constantly doing something. Whether it’s marching band or working at Kumon, nothing satisfies me more than getting things done. I’ve been this way for as long as I can remember. To me, I can’t will myself to be stuck doing nothing unless I’m sleeping or eating- it just isn’t possible. Although it’s a trait that some may not admire, it’s something I appreciate in the plethora of my personality traits. I never let work go undone or let people down, it isn’t in my nature to let things go like that. Perhaps that’s truly what this trait is- caring too much. And for me, this attribute allows me to understand the true meaning of hard work and determination. I have the willpower to always get things done, but not to just make myself …show more content…
Music has always been one of my greatest passions. By being in the marching band and dedicating myself to doing the best I can and form great relationships, I know that band has affected me in a very positive way. As a squad leader, I have also learned to value leadership and the importance of trying my best to achieve my goals. I was able to be someone a freshman or sophomore looked up to and that experience was worth more than anything in my time in high school. Another passion would include dance. Being involved in the Indian American Student Assocation allows me to get in touch with my culture while also exploring numerous forms of dance from the nation of India. From Bhangra to Raas, these dance forms have been my outlets after a long work day or trying to ease my troubled mind from time to time. It has also allowed me to show my school how pertinent it is to learn and appreciate other cultures that are so diversely coloring America everyday. Although these are only two of the many activities I participate and lead in, every experience I garner from these activities have helped shape who I am. The willingness I have to strive to become the person I want to, through my activities and willpower, are aspects I will never let go of in college and beyond. At the University of Toledo, I will also spread these ideas with me and cultivate them even
My identity is wrapped up in my love of music because I have been surrounded by it since I was little. When I was a toddler, I would sit for long periods of time and watch videos of kids singing songs. As I grew older I participated in my church's children's choir and even held solos in my elementary school chorus. When I reached middle school I joined my school's middle school chorus in 7th grade as an alto and 8th grade as a soprano. The transition between 8th and 9th grade was important for me because I took up voice lesson in 8th grade and went to my first music camp the summer before 9th grade.
Presently, High School has been changing point before going to college and beginning my dream. Before my breaking point I need one more step. I required the doubt to decide if I would be joining an extra curriculum activity, demanding decision for a freshman to make before even meeting my teachers. A month before I started school, my brother convinced me to join the Hawthorne High School Band and Color Guard. I meet the band director Mr. Hughes, who has always believed I had a talent and did his best to polish my color guard skills year by year to be the outstanding person he sees.
Having the unique perspective of an immigrant, who has had to overcome numerous obstacles to become integrated into American society while maintaining my roots, has motivated me to make the most of my education. Thus, being surrounded by and working alongside like-minded, driven individuals with differing, yet relatable backgrounds excites me, and I know that I will have this opportunity as a member of the Lookout Scholars Program. To be in an environment with other first-generation college students who understand the significance of their education and truly appreciate the opportunities allowed to them will be motivational and inspiring. I believe engaging in a stimulating and encouraging cohort with students who desire to be challenged in
Music is more than that it’s something beautiful produced based on the musicians. For example when we play in class when you feel the emotion and the feeling of playing it’s just so wonderful. Music is the way kids and people show their emotions although even on a bad day we try to play well because we do not want to be the big mess up in class. Music to me is the beginning of my passion. As students, we engage in learning through a more interactive and exciting learning experience.
Aside from studying diligently, I also participate in extracurricular activities. Before joining Frontier, I used to do traditional dance in my home country since I was 6 years old. The experience I gained from the years of dancing allowed me to choreograph a dance routine for school when I was 13 years old . This opportunity allowed me to refine my leadership and organizational skills. I took upon the challenge and I was able to come up with a creative story through music and movement.
Joining band had an immense and almost immediate impact on my life. Before being in band I had never had a talent that I felt completely confident in. I enjoyed practicing and spent many hours trying to improve my musical ability. In
A drum major is not someone who is unkind, unfair, or thoughtless. A drum major must possess qualities of leadership, reliability, and self respect. I feel as though I am prepared to take on these responsibilities, and become the Brooks High School Drum Major. I am a great leader, I am most definitely reliable, and I highly value myself as a human being. Being a great leader and role model are two of the highest qualities that a drum major should possess.
Out of all the things I would do in high school, nothing would impact me more than joining the North Rangers Marching Band. It would give me more skills than any other aspect of my life that would prepare me for a future and allow me to evolve from a shy child to an adult with skills that prepared me for my future. I went into high school as a shy kid, with no true direction, at least until I discovered my schools marching band. Although coming in two years behind most of me peers, I knew that this was where I was meant to be, and with that, my mind was set and I was determined. Throughout the next two years, I would face countless difficulties with this that felt at times like tests of my willpower and what this band meant to me, but luckily I would push through, and in the end, would be left with a stronger person.
I began participating in band in 5th grade and throughout the years I have discovered that music is something that I truly enjoy. I originally decided to continue on with band during high school just for fun, unaware on how much of an impact it would have on my life. Through band, I have met some of my best friends and I have experienced once in a lifetime opportunities like performing at Walt Disney World, during a parade. Over the past four years I have drastically improved my musical ability and my leadership skills. Most importantly I have learned the value of a job well done.
As an illustration, I had the curiosity of a cat when music was involved, so I initially played trombone, but before junior high was over, I moved through two more brass instruments, tenor sax, and the piano, holistically growing my music skills. From my teacher, I had complete support each time I wanted to learn something new, but on the condition that I would work tirelessly at it. She also spurred me in my love of the sciences, ensuring that I was doing well in my coursework and discussing plans for my future in engineering or some related field. Simply stated, my music teacher pushed me to do what I love, for the fire of inspiration gives life zest in music and everything else.
Everything I do revolves around my music. I have been around music all my life, whether it was listening to it or playing it. I’m very passionate about music and I love playing an instrument. The instrument
I have always had a burning passion for dance since I was a young girl. My first time on a stage, I was immediately hooked. The overpowering feeling of a crowd of people watching me as I do what I love, is a feeling I have always admired. Dance has developed my character and personality in many different ways. I have been taught responsibility, discipline, integrity and much more.
At a young age, I constantly wanted to express myself through music. I always found a way to incorporate music into my daily life, whether it be by blasting my favorite music, creating my own funky songs, or even having the opportunity to participate in my elementary school choir. My love for music actually took flight after I had decided to join my elementary school choir, however, in my opinion, it is not the most transformative moment in my life. After elementary
Even with my moods, whether it is sad or mad, music will help me get through it. It has absolutely been an enormous part of my life and who I am. Thus, this is to say that I have musical talent. I am in a high school marching band, where I play any piano-like instrument. My viewpoint with music has come to a simple conclusion, without it, I would not know who I am or what to do with my life.
