Music has been a valued part of my life since I was very young and has continued to grow to be a personal necessity since then. It has always served as a calming outlet and a relaxing activity. I see myself as a classical musician that has appreciation for all forms of music. From Bach to Tchaikovsky to Hazo (all of whom are classical composers), I feel the connection to their music and find that the classical music they produce says more than words and is able to tell a story with unlimited emotion. Music has a certain appeal that is wondrous and so different than any other form of communication.

Music is more than that it’s something beautiful produced based on the musicians. For example when we play in class when you feel the emotion and the feeling of playing it’s just so wonderful. Music is the way kids and people show their emotions although even on a bad day we try to play well because we do not want to be the big mess up in class. Music to me is the beginning of my passion. As students, we engage in learning through a more interactive and exciting learning experience.

It is a universal truth that the people you surround yourself with have a major impact in shaping who you are, and the people that coincide with your interests can either change your life for better or for worse. For the past six years of my life, I have been a part of the fine arts community through band. Being a part of the band program has shaped who I am today as a person in many ways. It is in all parts my identity, interest, and talent, and in three to four months out of the year, it is my life.

Remember the violins playing in the background while watching a sad movie or the song that helped you through difficult times or the song you and your friends sang while attending a concert? Whether it’s on the television, the radio, in a movie, in the car, or at a sporting event, music is everywhere. Feeling the rhythm of music brings us so much joy and excitement but playing musical instrument is even more fulfilling because it has many benefits.

Music carries each and every one of us to a new awareness. It can reach to the innermost part of an individual. Music can envelope our emotions from tears all the way to our joy. It captivates and motivates. As I attended a concert on Saturday, November 7, 2015, Lynyrd Skynyrd performed with power and feeling to their audience.

My life has been full of many opportunities to participate in things that I love and these opportunities have taught me fabulous lessons. Through my persistent hard work in the Clark high school marching band I have been very fortunate to learn important lessons about positivity, service and respect. Being in my high school’s marching band has drastically changed my life for the better. I would not have made it through all the curve-balls that school has thrown at me had it not been for the marching band, which taught me to find the positive in any and every situation. Working out and making countless mistakes in the scorching Texas heat does not seem like the ideal place to learn about positivity, however that is exactly what it is.

I don 't march anywhere or play an instrument outside of band class or at my house, but band taught me that even when you think it 's too tough, you need to keep working at it until you can do it no matter what it takes. I never saw the point of working hard for something that 's so irrelevant, until I saw the entrance to the Alamodome for state marching contest and figured that even tho this is one of the hardest things i 've ever done, I was glad that me and the other forty or so people i 'm glad to call my friends and family all worked hard together and individually to get us where we are today. Knowing that I have benefited from this experience makes everything about it, the practices, the heat, the overall toughness that I endured was all worth it for me and my future.
