am Jones Junior Full Stack Web Developer Projects | Skills | Education | Experience | Interests | Blog I’m an ambitious and conscientious Full Stack Junior Developer, seeking a London-based role where I can consolidate and extend my existing knowledge. Following time spent living in Japan and a stint working for a charity, where I was able to develop strong project management, communication and organisational skills, I have spent the past five years in the education sector, qualifying as a key stage 1 and 2 primary teacher in 2014. It was in this role that I became interested in code. Initially to support my students in their first steps in programming, and then as an enthusiastic amateur coder myself. I have spent the past three months …show more content…
It was vital to be creative and flexible in my approach, as it was often necessary to illustrate the same concept in a variety of ways to suit varied learning needs. My lessons were consistently rated as good or outstanding by both internal and external observers, and I was frequently complimented on the clarity of my explanation. I further recognise the importance of clear, concise written communication having had my writing published in AGI Magazine and elsewhere. I was also the first point of contact for partners and clients during my time working for a charity, which taught me about relationship building and the importance of timely, open communication. More recently, I have kept my writing skills sharp by blogging about my experiences at Makers Academy. Quick learner As a student I spent a year living and studying at a university in Tokyo. On arriving in the country I spoke barely a word of Japanese and had zero reading or writing ability. Over time, I was able to pick up the language at an accelerated pace, quickly becoming conversationally proficient and able to read and write to a good standard. By the end of the year, I had advanced sufficiently to be able to deliver a five minute presentation on intercultural communication to an audience of around 200 native …show more content…
This passion for aquiring and sharing knowledge is what initially attracted me to teaching and, when it was introduced onto the national curriculum, to start exploring coding for the first time. I constantly strive to expand the horizons of my knowledge and ability, and love wrestling with complex new problems. I am registered as a coach with codebar, a not for profit organisation which organises regular workshops for beginner coders - both to consolidate my own understanding of what I have learned, and to share my knowledge with others. Adaptable As a teacher in a primary school, it was important for me to be flexible and adaptable in my work. I needed to respond to situations as they arose, whether by covering someone elses class, or altering lesson plans on the fly based on learner's needs or misconceptions. Furthermore, during the Makers Academy course I spent every day pairing with other students. I pride myself on my capacity for collaborating with others and adapting to their preferred working methods. This ability led to the formation of strong working relationships with all other members of the cohort.
”― Patrick Rothfuss. There is power in words, power in the way they can bring new ideas and opinions to the people who perceive them. The people who understand this the most, are the people who use them to weave stories for their audience. It stands to reason that these practitioners might draw from each other, as a student who cannot help but to glance over at another student's work with the purpose of improvement.
In 11 years at Mechanics Grove School I have been fortunate enough to teach both 4th and 5th grades. I am always seeking opportunities to increase my level of involvement and responsibility. I am the school's Capacity Builder for the Rising Star School Improvement Team. This position has required me to actively participate in each of the building Professional Learning Communities in order to communicate Rising Star Plan initiatives while at the same time gaining input as to the effectiveness of the plans in place. My ability to listen and understand has been an incredible asset in the school improvement plan process.
Students learn in different ways and styles and I believe this is key to developing a program that engages all students. Every student has a unique learning style and this means that I must be well versed and prepared to cater and deliver a wide range of individual needs. This means that in order to support and foster knowledge growth the learning environment should be stimulating, engaging and offering a range of resources that cater to a range of individual needs. While I have only had experience so far as a CRT and a Drama teacher, I have had many challenges.
This shows that I am diverse in my class choices and would provide more and be more beneficial than just book smart students. In the classroom, I am the go-to person when you need help with a problem and I take pride in helping others. With confidence and competence, I take pride in the accomplishments of those who help along the way. I welcome challenges and love tackling problems in unique
I learned how to differentiate my approach in helping the students at level they were at. I am interested in teaching in a middle school setting because I’ve come to see how important it is to get a student to be invested in their education while they are in middle school. Studies have shown that the education gap widens by the time an African American student reaches middle school. I want to be in a middle school setting to help bridge the education gap, one scholar at a

As research proved that there are multiple ways of learning other than just listening, more visual and tactile activities were implemented to better explain concepts to the students. Research is now proving that versatility in lessons and assignments allows for better retention of information in students. The article delves into this, stating, “Writing well goes hand in hand with the ability to read well and to think critically and astutely, Dr. Laver says. ‘Deep writing fosters deep thinking and deep reading’.” (Dixon). This shows that the ability to write an insightful piece correlates with the brain’s ability to use critical thinking.
I have found that I have developed three core teaching beliefs, the make me an effective teacher. My first belief is that teachers and students share ownership of the learning experience, whereby they collaboratively make meaningful decisions that impact the course of learning to where students are excited and engaged. I have spent every day of my teaching career allowing myself to collaborate with not only my own peers, but with my students. My students often run the experience of my classroom making decisions as a clas…………… My second belief is that learning is based on relationships, and that interactions between teachers, families, and students should be understanding and compassionate in hopes to create crucial opportunities.
This foundation has been utilized multiple times throughout the semester with creativity through my different Reflective Journals, Care Plans, and Technology papers, such as “Why I want to be a Nurse”. Comprehension of English I feel, is a futile foundation for communication. Without proper oral and written skills, I would not have been able to do as well. Writing and expression is a large part of continuing education. My interest and willingness to complete the writing components required is based off of a confident knowledge base.
From all the diverse backgrounds, learning styles and needs in the program, there were many obstacles that I had to overcome to create a lesson that would
While in the first grade classroom, I was able to form a great relationship with my mentor teacher that allowed me to be very hands on with the students throughout the semester. Among many things, I learned how to run an educational circle and calendar time, worked with small groups of students to improve reading, provided practice spelling tests to students, assisted students in developing their writing abilities, and implemented the class’s behavior management plan. While I worked with the fifth grade
I have learned how to modify the Creative Curriculum to provide quality education and a challenging learning environment for cultural and diverse
The reasons I am teaching myself how to become a Web Developer are because I find it very rewarding to see an Idea be completed through to the working product then even being able to tweak parts here and there, continuously improving the idea and come out with a working website, to know that I've created that pushes me into learning more and more to enhance my understanding of Web Development and how I can use it in the
