Up until my senior year in high school, I have been interested in various things that range from art to technology; the topic of business was also an interest of mine. However, once I graduated from high school, I realized that I was even more interested in the field of business. Business has always found its way back into my life. Ultimately, I decided that I wanted to pursue a degree in business for the long run. The major that I am most interested in is management; more specifically, the human resource management sector. Management, in reference to human resources, is interesting to me for three reasons. First, I enjoy working with other individuals, especially in team settings. Second, organization is a task that I have always believed in. Human resources includes being very organized and on …show more content…
I identified this particular skill as one I would like to improve because I know that I lack a certain confidence factor when it comes to speaking in particular when I have to speak in front of a large crowd. As of right now, I know that I am capable of speaking in front of people. However, I do not feel confident when I am speaking and because of this I am not able to deliver my best while presenting. Throughout this semester in Business 103, I have developed more of my speaking skills through our various formal/informal presentations. Additionally, activities, such as the resume critique, enabled my speaking skills because I was in frequent communication with a fellow classmate. Overall, polishing my speaking skills will contribute to my personal success because I will be able to lead important tasks, such as giving oral presentations in front of my staff members and other people that I may come in contact with without fear. I will be confident enough, therefore allowing me to communicate my ideas/presentation
Alvarez specified that the worst part about her job is when people choose not to do what is right and their employment must be terminated. Maria E. Alvarez indicated that Human Resources are a trade that is always innovating therefore; continue education in the field is a must to be able to stay up to date with innovation. She commend that the most important things that a future HR professional should learn from an undergraduate course in human resource management, is to learn as much as you can in employment law. Being computer literate is also a key to success.
The time spent at Western Governors University (WGU) has been a great opportunity to learn about myself, my goals, and understand the factors that influence my career choice and my success. When I began at WGU four years ago, I did not have any experience in human resource management beyond recruiting, hiring and training for the restaurant industry. In the beginning, I was uncomfortable with the limited knowledge. Yet, as time progressed, my confidence, knowledge and skills increased with each course.
1 - Public Speaking Public speaking is a weakness of mine and is a skill I should improve because it will
Therefore, developing my proficiency in these areas would help develop my leadership, management, and administration competency. Completing this program is a great way to develop in these areas because I am finding it really enlightening to engage with the perspectives from my peers and learn from their experiences that they share in discussions. Most of my classmates are further in their careers than myself, so their contributions allow me to consider higher education and leadership in a way that is different than what I am familiar with because I do not have much experience in roles where divisional strategy, organizational structures, or other “big picture thinking” items are
As an undergraduate student, I am still a novice in the field of psychology. To improve and become more accomplished in the Teaching and Training pathway, such as the position of a psychology teacher, I could read more journal articles and expand my knowledge of studies, treatment, and terminology. Additionally, an area of needed improvement is my public speaking skill. While I am most comfortable communicating in a one-on-one or group setting, I find my limited experience with public speaking to be a detriment. As a result, I speak quickly and may communicate ineffectively.
Public speaking is probably the most terrifying fear that I have. In order to be a good practitioner of Human Services, I must overcome this fear and train to be a better speaker. I can strengthen this skill by taking a couple classes in public speaking and by practicing my introduction with myself. I work at a fine-dining restaurant, and the servers are meant to be confident in menu knowledge and try to upsell as much as possible. When I first trained, I practiced so hard to spiel out of the menu but I kept having to repeat myself repeatedly.
Human Resource Managers recruit employees, give advice, and resolve grievances. I enjoy organizing, and leading others. Having this job will allow me to make personal connections with employees: I am a very social, outgoing, and trustworthy person. I want to completely understand the role of
Being confident shows your audience you are comfortable talking about your topic and that you are well informed on what you are specking of. Another thing that I can improve on is relaxing, for example, to not be so nervous. If I can think two steps ahead before I speak it would prepare me for what I am about to say which will allow my words to flow out smoothly and correctly. I plan on improving these skills by practicing more speeches in front of people and doing some relaxation exercises before my speech. I believe by implementing more speeches and doing some of the exercises, it will have me more relaxed, keep my mind focused and boost up my confidence so that I may present my speech flawlessly for an A plus grade.
I have gained experiences and skills from my previous employment as well as personal life situations and education. I have learnt some valuable skills such as attentive listening and excellent communication .I am able to communicate effectively : verbal, non verbal, and written .I recently delivered a presentation for my project at the University. I made some notes for my power point and practised with my colleagues, at the end of the presentation,I recapped to clarify my point and asked questions.
I pay attention to detail and I have learnt skills in communication and presentation. Even though I feel I have strong communication skills through my work, both written and creative pieces, I can improve on my verbal communication in presentations and speaking. The main issue I find with this is my confidence, which I am continuously working on. Being confident in my work and what I am talking about will be very important for my further studies and career pathway, because to work in film marketing and distribution, I must have excellent communication skills. I need to be engaging and able to create a presence for myself online.
Fourth, is Memory this allows an individual to recall information. Lastly, Delivery which is the presentation of the speech. Developing public speaking skills can help you in life with jobs, presentation and other things that involve
I will practice more to gain confidence before giving any speech. It will help me to deliver any speech with more confidence and less stress. Practicing in front of the mirror is one of the ways that helps me to reduce my stress level. Thus, I will remember to look at the audience while speaking instead of looking down in the notes.
Especially in the field, I plan to work in. so I will start going out of my way to improve my communication skills. Because without being able to speak clearly to others, it could be detrimental to the patients' diagnosis when I get the job. The next communication skill is listening. I practice this in the class by giving my undivided attention to my peers during presentations or conversations.
My biggest need is just the need to be better prepared and second to be more organized. Practice and opportunities to speak in front of a group will help to continue to develop speaking skills. During interviews, I dislike questions about how I feel or a time when I reacted a certain way. Just like in a speech situation I feel everything is moving too fast and I need to remember to slow down, take a breath and remember I’ll be fine.
As students, presentations are something that is required in most classes yet, students do not see themselves as public speakers. Throughout high school and now in college, I have had to present material in 80 percent of the classes that I have taken. Presenting was, and still is something that I struggle with no matter how big or how small the group is that I am presenting to. I knew that Public Speaking was a required class for me so, rather than putting it off, I decided to go ahead and get it out of the was as soon as possible. Speaking in front of people is out of my comfort zone.
