The topic I chose for my informative speech was gun violence in the United States. I chose this topic so that others may be aware of all the violence related to a firearm and to inform them of the dangers associated with a gun in the United States. Everyday we turn on the news and hear about a new tragedy involving some sort of firearm. Therefore choosing gun violence as the topic for my speech seemed appropriate. I believe my topic opened the eyes of my audience because of the effect it had on them, especially being that I myself was a victim to gun violence and went through the whole ordeal of being hospitalized and all other effects that follows after being shot. I believe my message was strong and firm. My presentation started out with …show more content…
Being confident shows your audience you are comfortable talking about your topic and that you are well informed on what you are specking of. Another thing that I can improve on is relaxing, for example, to not be so nervous. If I can think two steps ahead before I speak it would prepare me for what I am about to say which will allow my words to flow out smoothly and correctly. I plan on improving these skills by practicing more speeches in front of people and doing some relaxation exercises before my speech. I believe by implementing more speeches and doing some of the exercises, it will have me more relaxed, keep my mind focused and boost up my confidence so that I may present my speech flawlessly for an A plus grade. I believe during my speech my audience was in odd and in disbelieve as well as surprised due to the fact that, I myself was a victim to gun violence and the general realization of the impact that gun violence has in the U.S. as well as the medical cost and the amount of gun circulating the country. I definitely also believe that my audience felt very informed after hearing my speech and now have a better understanding of guns and their effects in the
Now, onto my speech II. Main Body I believe that guns are not weapons, but are tools. I read something on www.topics-mag.com, and it compared Prohibition to selling and owning guns. I believe that this can be used because it compares using and selling alcohol because it was illegal during the time.
Due to my passion to help stop gun violence, I decided to do project, on preparing an effective gun violence speech more specifically formulating a speech for President Barack Obama. In this month alone in the United States, we have had more than three counts of mass shooting and of October 21st 2015, there was also another mass shooting in the United States. With so many shooting and death totals, gun violence has because a novelty because everyone citizens, public and the media all have their versions or opinions to the current situation. With gun violence being widespread, there are numerous accesses to information’s regarding gun in general and due to numerous accesses to information’s, the interested party has accesses to either conduct or explore a research.
Guns don’t kill people. People kill people. Many believe this, but columnist Nicholas Kristof, author of “Our Blind Spot about Guns,” published in 2014 in the New York Times, disagrees. A rhetorical analysis should consist of: logos, pathos, and ethos. Kristof’s use of logos is strong due to the amount of facts and statistics he offers to his audience, but he fails to strongly use pathos and ethos, due to the lack of these elements Kristof’s argument is weakened.

Many schools in today’s society suffer from shootings at some point while children are attending school. Shootings in schools are not a new occurrence, and America has dealt with multiple shootings in public schools in which the lives of many children and teachers have been undeservingly taken (Elliott 528). Because of school shootings, this leaves our children in danger with no way to protect themselves. Gun violence in schools is an evident problem, and there are several ways to reduce the number of incidents, such as mental health screening for owners of guns, interconnectedness of communities, and more school funding.
Would you want to live in fear? Especially at a place that you feel safe. A place that you are required to go to by law. A place that children roam the hallways, learning and having fun. Can you imagine, going to this place every day, until one.
Attention Getter: Between 1993 and 2003 gun ownership increased by 56 percent, and yet gun violence declined by almost 50 percent (Bandler). Criminals know that if people have guns to protect themselves then they might not be successful in a shooting. Gun Regulation is immoral because Guns are not what kill people. It is the people who use the guns to kill people, who kill people. Many of these people who cause these mass shooting and killings have mental health issues.
Personal Essay - Public Shootings Recently, there have been many tragedies in the world, such as shootings, bombings, and terrorist attacks. We all are affected differently by them, some more than others, but these events affect the way we live and how we act. The recent public shootings have affected my life and changed how I live it. The Sandy Hook Elementary and the Aurora movie theater shootings were a result of guns in the hands of the wrong people, and because of this, my life is different than my parents’ lives were when they were kids. Our world has become dangerous and I don’t feel safe anymore.

Ever since the inception of this country 240 years ago, guns have been an integral part of the American identity; a sense of lawlessness, individualism, personal autonomy and freedom. They were the tools that liberated us, and gave us independence over a tyrannical, unrepresentative empire. However, in more recent years, these tools have been used more and more frequently in mass shootings, some of which are occurring at schools, targeting teachers and children. Since the infamous shooting at Columbine High School 19 years ago, we have had several shootings at schools, and we tend to get “thoughts and prayers”, a gesture with good intentions, but little actual progress made. This problem can be contributed to the increasing power of guns, and a lack of mental health coverage, gun
