In recent years, I have had the opportunity to gain new insights about the different characteristics of international politics and societal issues. Not only through university studies in Political Science (focusing on security and crisis management) but also through my engagement in extra curricular activities at the National Defense University in Stockholm, for example my positions of trust at the student council. I have a passion for these issues and that is why I strive for a career in this field. The actions of global actors such as governments, organizations and corporations have a huge impact on how our societies shape and develop. Needless to say, this is especially true when considering security issues and crises such as conflict …show more content…
This permeates everything in politics today, ranging from crisis communication to political campaigning, lobbying, diplomacy and even psychological warfare. Public relations and marketing is, as known, an integrated part of the private sphere as well. I am truly fascinated by how powerful the strategy behind a presentation and the communication of an idea can be, regardless of considering public persuasion or product marketing. As I looked into the independent tasks that I have written as a student during these past years, I came to realize that this is a theme that I always revisit, whether I go back to my first written essay regarding George W. Bush´s and Obama’s portrayal of the Middle East or my bachelors thesis on the Coercive Diplomacy by the P5+1 towards …show more content…
During this time, however, I have increasingly realized that Public Relations and Political Marketing is what I want to focus on and work with in the future. Therefore, in the beginning of 2015, I begun researching different courses and master´s programs, starting with Sweden. It did not take long before I stumbled upon this very master´s program in Strategic Public Relations at Stirling and Lund University. The course contents seemed to be tailor made for me and the double degree arrangement was certainly attractive, especially since I have considered studying in Scotland before. I wanted to apply right away. The problem was (and is) that the course I am attending is a 2-year program. That meant I had to drop out. I let it go, thinking that it would be a shame tossing away everything I worked for during this year. But, in June, after talking with my institution several times, I learned that it might be possible to convert my masters program into a 1-year program. It was, however, not completely certain so I had to wait until the end of the holiday season. Even so, I initiated the application process by starting to formulate this personal statement and uploading the relevant documents. And now, in early August, I found out that it will indeed be possible for me to convert my master´s program. So, this is why my
This argument stands on the propaganda’s manipulation of communication form and content and individual’s psychology to invoke the desired belief or position in the targeted person (Show, 2007, p. 11). Both Public Relations and Propaganda share an array of persuasive techniques and methods applied to reach the goals. Aggressive branding utilises propaganda techniques and design practices to influence mass consciousness and to instil particular ideas and attitudes (Muratovski, 2011). This dimension of marketing of education indicates the propagandist abuse of persuasion to influence students’ choices of educational
In class this week, we had our presentations of a company’s corporate communication strategy. It was interesting to see how other students tackled the project. Some focused on key aspects of the communication, like how Blaine talked about the management-employee relationship and communication tools. This also reminds us that each company centers their business around different stakeholders which makes their strategies so
“Peace is not absence of conflict, it is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means.” Ronald Reagan once made this statement and its meaning resonates with me personally. When he made this statement he recognized conflict’s inevitability and the need to have the ability to resolve conflicts peacefully. This reality is what drives me to pursue my Master’s degree in Political Science with a concentration in United Nations and Global Policy Studies. With the rise of globalization it is becoming increasingly important for the US to have representatives who are able to successfully interact with individuals from other countries.
The AVID program has had a positive impact in my academics, and in my life by helping me focus, enrich, and solidify my goals. I can say with full confidence that AVID has become an integral part of my High School year that equipped me with the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in college. As an immigrant who came to the United States five years ago and English being my third language, the AVID program challenged me to think critically and strive to learn more. Personality wise, there are major changes that I observed once I joined the program.
3.1 SWOT Understanding the real work of a public relations practitioner requires much analysis, thus a brief SWOT analysis has been created to showcase my understanding of Charmaine’s role at SNC Lavalin. The strengths of a PR practitioner lies in his/her ability to manipulate the reputation of an organization, to build relationships and network with people, to have outstanding written and oral communication skills that represent your company, and to be the individual with the ability to save your organization from a crisis. Contrary to strengths, some of the weaknesses of working in PR stem from its heavy workload, consistent pressure to sustain relationships that are growing thin, face rejection from the media or public at times, and flocculating
Personal Statement- Stephanie Olivera Growing up I was always the odd one in our family. When my parents started having children, they did not plan us very well. I am 5 years younger than my older brother, 4 years younger than my sister and 8 years older than my younger brother. I was the child that did not have anyone to "play" with, and I grew accustomed to being alone.
Many people come across roadblocks through their journey of life. I know I've had my fair share of them. The biggest bump in my academic life was changing it completely upside down. Growing up african American or with any skin that holds the slightest of pigment is not easy, but that's obvious due to our nation's past. Racism and stereotypeing has always been there.
At the age of ten being raised by minority parents was very difficult for me at the time. At the age of ten I was forced for my English and Spanish vocabulary to be very proficient due to always translating for my parents. At that age learning both languages was annoying, frustrating, and difficult; however that experience shaped me to be a proficient bilingual nurse present and gain benefits by being bilingual. The benefits where the many open job opportunities with the increase pay. This experience also assisted to raise my daughter to speak and write both languages actively although just not the way my parents forced it on me.
Rhetoric If you stood up in front of 20,000 people, will you be able to overcome any problem and convince your listeners? Rhetoric, as the great Aristotle defined it, is “the faculty of observing in any given case the available means of persuasion” (“The Art of Rhetoric”). Rhetoric has the power to change people´s mind about any subject in particular, ergo it has the ability to make significant changes. As it has been already said, this public speaking faculty has as a main purpose, the power of convincing an audience.
If propaganda is systematically advanced, the public may over time loose its points of reference of what is real and what is not, what has been manufactued and what is a product of critical thinking. This desinsetization of the public, caused by constant propagandist influence, progresses and with time eventually leads to loss of what
Throughout history, people have used political propaganda to gain support. Some have used it in the positive way to promote great things. Others unfortunately used it in a negative way and abused it. In addition, the consequences of that behavior was never forgotten. In order to be successful in using the propaganda, one must begin by using it in a positive way in order to appeal to the masses of people to gain their support.
This model focuses on the interplay among the message, the channel of communication, the source, and the target of the message. Richard Perloff in his work “The Dynamics of Persuasion” (2010) states that the main characteristics of the source of communication are authority, credibility, and social attractiveness. It is necessary to admit that all these three features are represented in the
At Rice, I would share my passion for creating new technology, and the experience I have had in project management and development. Having attended several coding competitions, I know what it takes to make an app or website in only 24 hours. Being surrounded by advanced coders in my high school, I have learned from them the nuances of programming languages like JavaScript and Swift, and hope to share my knowledge with future Owls. As the VP of the Web and App Club, I was a leader of a project to create an app for the Interact Club at my high school. Through collaboration and teamwork, I, along with several other members, were able to complete the Interact App by the beginning of the school year.
Doubtlessly, primary education plants the seeds of learning in the minds of young people. I am a diligent and organised student hoping to join the Education Course. I have recognised the importance of education and the impact it has on the lives of young people through volunteering and work experience, as well as being a pupil and seeing different teaching methods myself. I feel the Primary Education course is ideal for me to expand not only my own knowledge, but also that ofyounger students. My A Level subjects have been highly beneficial to the Education course, particularly English, as it has enabled me to teach younger students and gain the confidence to speak in front of classes.
If I am successful in being selected for the graduate program, I hope to gain knowledge in the fields of insurance, international business, organizational behavior, strategy, operations and management. I feel that I am the best candidate because I’m a very motivated worker and although I’m new to the world insurance, I’m not new thinking strategically and analytically. During my time interning at Young & Rubicam, I realized how much strategic thinking and planning went into marketing and I’m excited by the prospect of bringing this same level of thinking and enthusiasm to this new opportunity. Therefore, I believe this position is a great fit for me. There are a lot of reasons which attracted me towards the graduate program such as exposure in different departments, and the opportunity to gain exposure in the London office.
