My interest in countries and how they are run started at an early age. As a small child, my encyclopedic knowledge of every world flag was my party piece! Politics allows me to apply that same zeal to seek understanding into complex political questions in the modern world. An active individual in the British political scene, I recently attended a Labour Party conference to pose pressing questions on educational policy to Gordon Brown. In order to broaden my knowledge of mainstream British political parties, I shadowed Newark MP and Conservative Robert Jenrick, sitting in on town council meetings, as well as assisting in surgeries and caseworking in the party office; Mr. Jenrick has since invited me to Westminster. I released an article on my ancestor, Lord Mayor of York, Sir Joseph Terry on Wikipedia, where according to a peer-reviewed process its quality was designated as being within the top 0.45% of all entries on the website. The project demanded a keen eye for research married with a personal interest in the subject matter. From all aspects of his life, including his untimely death a day before the …show more content…
I was given free roam on any suitable area of research, and depending on the quality of my work, the museum would consider taking my ideas forward for a new exhibition. I decided to base my project around social issues in Georgian Britain. More specifically, I wrote a detailed report on how the Poor Laws and Vagrancy Acts affected both the lives of the homeless and the opinions of the gentry. My research was immediately accepted and I scored top marks on feedback to my school. I also participated in historically based 'mock trials' surrounding the British suffragette movement and sat in on debates regarding drug policy reform. In my own time, I'm an active member of its developing Youth Committee, suggesting ways to get young people involved in legal
The 1788 colonisation at Sydney cove, disrupted trade and access to natural resources and impacted the Gameraigal way of life. Between 1790 and 1820 the colony expanded into the Gameraigal lands. Diseases such as small pox and gonorrhoea decimated the aboriginal population and a lack of common cultural understanding fuelled heavy conflict in the area. Many who survived became displaced from their traditional homes or integrated into European society. Alcohol and tobacco compounded problems further, and by the 1860’s aboriginal people were only occasional visitors to North Sydney.
For the assignment “Revolutionary Museum” we studied the causes leading up to the revolutionary war, the revolutionary war, and the consequences of the war. We then created a museum with English integrated into our project. Inside our museum we showcased objects associated with the Revolutionary war. Through this project we studied enlightenment thinkers such as Thomas Paine and his pamphlet entitled “Common Sense”. Common Sense is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1775–76 advocating independence from Great Britain to people in the Thirteen Colonies.
For my service on the Plunge, I first went to Our Lady’s Inn, where we talked to a woman working there, watched a video on their mission, and took a tour of the building. I then went to Grace Hill Preschool, where two girls and I helped out in a classroom. At Grace Hill we did a number of tasks including, helping them follow along in a book being read to them, playing on the playground and teaching and singing songs about daily tasks, such as tying their shoes, or packing their backpack. We finished the day at St. Vincent Depaul where we heard 5 women tell their story and experiences with poverty.
I am the soldier Jacob Raymond, who fought in the French and Indian War along with the American Revolution. Life in the colonies after the French and Indian War was wonderful until Britain passed the Proclamation of 1776. Parliament passed this law in order to stop us from moving west towards Quebec. This made it more difficult to farm and was starting to upset many of the colonists including myself. Next, the Sugar Act was passed in 1764.
Why has He forsaken me so? I cannot handle it anymore. For the past few weeks Satan himself has eaten me alive from the inside. I have prayed to Him so much, and I thought He would free me of all of this internal combat between Satan and me, but this time Satan has prevailed over me.
Today was the day. We were finally going to do it. We were finally going to have enough money. My family have been so desperate. We need money because my father lost his job, so our parents bought me and my little sister, Annabelle, tickets with the only money we have to Italy so our grandmother can give us enough money to live in England.
Prior to taking POLS 1101, I had already obtained much knowledge about America under British rule, and the struggle that led us to become the independent country we are today. What I did not know is our current government structure and the processes and systems of our government. I also learned more about the Electoral College, the United States Supreme Court, the Nuclear Deal, and Britain’s “question time.” I enjoyed participating in these discussions, because each post required research, exploration, and consideration before meaningful dialogue; it requires students to analyze textbooks, the media, and much more, leading to one gaining a well rounded knowledge on a subject. I have also enjoyed the opportunity to read what my peers had to say on the exact same question, comparing and contrasting our answers and opinions.
Before taking political science, I had a relatively little interest in politics. Since taking the course, however, my understanding, as well as interest in political topics has increased. I have become more aware of political topics, and their bases in history. Previously, I had watched the presidential debates, but only those. Since then I have taken an interest in local elections, alongside presidential primaries.
I believe that education is important and is key to success, but I don't consider myself to be very politically engaged. I feel that my personality favors direct change rather that indirect change that takes a long time, which is how I see politics. The belief that I do agree with is being open to different opinions and advocating for everyone's safety. I also think that the current economic system is unfair and favors the wealthy people and can be very bias, but I also do not put total blame on the economy and believe that people are also responsible for where they get because hard work and determination are important to achieve not just your dreams, but also, your status. There is definitely economic inequality in the country, and this is caused by a mix of both factors of the current economic system and people's choices in life.
Today’s event was a crucial part in communicating our distaste to how Great Britain is taxing us. I have a feeling that this will act as an importing stepping stone in the future of our colonial rights. After the Townshend Duties were dropped, except concerning tea, Great Britain has had the audacity to still try to warp our minds into buying from them. Although the Indian tea is cheaper and much more flavourful than the Dutch tea we have secretly been importing, we colonists have decided that there is no way we are buying anything that Britain has had to do with. Although I am weary from the excitement today, I can’t help but smile when I think of the clearly defiant message we sent the British.
Along with beginning to realize my own potential, the Independence Youth Court has given me a new
Young adults between comprise 20% of the U.S population” That how many of us can make a difference in younger kids life and activists don’t even have to be teens they can be any age. Some Activists can not spread the word to many places throughout the
I developed my interest in public policy because of my curiosity for political and social issues that led me to wanting to be involved in policy making. I became enthusiastic for politics and the shaping of our world and its societies during my undergraduate studies and after having reflected theoretically, I would like to be able to take part in what makes our world what it is. I am interested in the issues of the folding of different levels of government as well as in the policies of the European Union and of international affairs to which I have been introduced during my undergraduate program. During my undergraduate program, I also built up my interest in issues of environment, science and health because of various introductory classes that I took.
Politics Prize Essay The outcome of the 2015 General Election was highly unprecedented, hugely contradicting all of the opinion polls taken prior to the election, and the main cause still cannot be agreed on. Many predicted a hung parliament, so the Conservative majority result was unexpected. There were many contributing factors, such as Ed Miliband's low personal approval rating, Lynton Crosby's political strategies, and the Liberal Democrat defeat due to their broken promises on tuition fees. However although these all contributed, by far the most significant aid for the Conservative majority was the UK 'First past the post' voting system. The UK has used this system since voting began, and a referendum was held in May 2011 On whether
