Today was the day. We were finally going to do it. We were finally going to have enough money. My family have been so desperate. We need money because my father lost his job, so our parents bought me and my little sister, Annabelle, tickets with the only money we have to Italy so our grandmother can give us enough money to live in England. Annabelle and I were late to the boat to Italy. We were so rushed that when we ran across the dock, we got on the wrong boat. We were on the boat to the Thirteen Colonies. My sister and I didn’t realize until we started talking to some of the other kids on the boat. One of the girls was talking to one of the other children, “I can’t wait to start a new life with my family in the America’s!” I overheard this …show more content…
We learned about how these colonies couldn’t farm. Their land was very thin and stony with little level soil. Their long winters made it difficult too. Since the New England colonies couldn’t farm, they made their wealth by trading across seas. Next, Henry talked about the Middle colonies. They had very rich farmland with moderate climate. So, the Middle colonies raised livestock like cows and chickens and different grains. Then, Henry talked about the Southern colonies. The land and climate was perfect for growing crops. They grew things like tobacco, rice, cotton, and indigo. Also their dense forests brought them lumber, tar, and resin from the pine …show more content…
Two men had put sacks on our heads but just now are taking them off. We both started freaking out. We had no idea where we were but it was very dark. The only light was the one shining down on us. This big, heavy man who looked to be very tall can into the light. “My name is Donald,” the man said in a british accent. “Were you the man who kidnapped us?” I asked. Donald said that he was the man who kidnapped us and he did because he said he needed slaves but didn’t want to pay for them. My sister and I were both shocked. After a while, Donald left to get something to eat. But, when he did, he left the door ajar. I whispered to Annabelle, “Slip out of your rope like I did and we’ll make a run for it.” So, Annabelle and I slipped out of our ropes and ran out the door as fast as we could. Donald was long gone so he didn’t see us escape. We ran for days. We wanted to make sure Donald wasn’t following us and we couldn’t wait to get to the Southern colonies. By the time we ran out of food and energy, we stopped at a local farm. We went up to the house on the property and knocked on the door. On the door was written “Farmer Joe.” Once he opened the door, I started to tell him about our long journey down to the colonies and then how we ended up at his farm. I also told him that we needed jobs. Farmer Joe was very understanding and he gave us both jobs working on his farm. Since Annabelle and I had jobs, we could make enough money to
Joe volunteered to take Janie and him to the new city that was being created by entirely black people after they had first met. Before running across Janie, that had served as the inspiration for Joe's initial trip. " Ah'll be down dis road uh little after sun-up tomorrow morning' to wait for you. you come go wid me. " (Hurston 31).
They had to work hard living for years and still traverse large amounts of land in an acceptable amount of time. And sometimes they had to work silently because like bears and stuff and they probably got very good at it by the
Were in a house, a rather large house. There was strange people offering us food, water, medicine, and anything else we might need. They were being quite quiet about us being there though. It doesn’t take Taylor and I long to figure out they were slaves, but Ashley didn’t quite get the memo. Taylor and I are more familiar with slaves because we get out a lot more than Ashley.
The differences in the economy in the three different regions of the thirteen colonies were determined by both the people who went there and the environment. The environment limited how the economy was based because an agricultural economy needs good ground for growing, so without good soil, the economy would have to be based on industry. In the New England colonies (Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, and Rhode Island), the economy was dependent on their industries, not their agriculture. The Middle Colonies (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware) were equally dependent on industry as they were on agriculture. The Southern Colonies (Maryland, N. Carolina, S. Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia) depended on selling their
In fact, with all their differences, the three regions later combined to create the great nation known today as the United States. One of the big differences between the three regions was their topography and climate, which led to different types of agriculture. For instance, the New England Colonies had many mountains and forests due to its glaciers. Since it had sandy soil, short summers and long lasting winters, the Puritans who landed in New England weren’t able to farm many types of crops. The cold weather negatively impacted their agriculture.
Each colonial region was distinct in its own way. That is largely because of the pattern of colonization that occurred from 1607 to the early 1700 's. But if you really break it down, societies in the colonies were separated either economically or religiously. New England societies were primarily founded on religious views which created covenant communities originally based off of the Mayflower Compact. The people of New England colonies (Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Hampshire) saw no real difference between separation of church and state.
New England colonies had a hot/humid climate so they weren’t able to do any farming like the southern colonies. The New England colonies did not have slaves, this is a big difference between the two and many slaves form the southern colonies would try to escape to the New England colonies since slaving wasn’t allowed there. But the New
Life is different out here in the new land. I’m living in a colony named Connecticut with my friends named John and Bill. Before I got here, Connecticut was discovered 5th out of the 13 colonies founded. Connecticut's major city is known as Hartford, New Haven. Connecticut was also founded in 1636 by Thomas Hooker and others.
In the Middle Colonies, there was fertile soil and part of it was hilly and part of it was flat. There were some ‘mountains’, wide valleys, and fast rivers. In the Southern Colonies, like the Middle Colonies, the land there was fertile. It was very humid there. Their summers were very warm and rainy, and in the winters, it was a mild climate so it did not get very cold.
One day when I woke up I was getting ready to go to America. I was leaving with my Dad, Mom, Sister, and my Brother. My family and I are leaving leaving from Germany and going to America. We are going to bring clothes such as shirts, pants, underwear, socks, shoes, and hats. We will also bring soap, food, and other stuff like that to survive in America.
The fact that the story happens based on a traditional father and son camping trip shows their strong bond. The story does not point out the conversation between Joe and his father; for a little while his father didn’t say a thing. Then he said why sure go along Joe (Trumbo). The unknown dialogue gives a picture of the situation the father is facing while Joe is mentioning Bill Harper. This also shows how Joe is growing up and viewing this place differently and wanting to experience differently. The place that represents Joe’s childhood will covert him into a young man as he changes the tradition.
In England, many of the English settlers decided to move west in search of their own colony. Two men; William Penn and John Smith traveled into two colonies called Pennsylvania and Virginia. Since they both settled into their own colony, they each contained their own, separate issues. Religion was a major part of every colony but differed greatly in these two colonies. Virginia, the first colony established, followed the religious ways of England, meaning that the colonists all worshipped the same way.
The middle colonies were set differently from the New England and Chesapeake Bay regions, instead of searching for a place to colonize or be given the authority to use founded land by Britain, the middle colonies, owned by Charles I and the Duke of York, used the lands as a way to pay off debts or as political favors. The new proprietaries intended uses of the colonies were for wealth and freedom to practice any religion. William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania, successfully created the first, middle colony a “colony of Haven for the children of light” (American Yawp, chapter 3) thus attracted a wide range of people from different nations. Because of the political and religious freedoms, a harmony of mixed towns of French, Dutch, German, Swedes,
One day a man from canada came to the plantation and said to Sims that he was a bird watcher and he needs some of their slaves to guide him. Sims said that he could give up 2 of his slaves. “We are going to Miami and meeting up with your sister and dad” she said. Her hazel eyes filled with happiness and joy because we would be a family again. I had been apart from my sister for a year and my father for 6 months. I missed them very much but I didn’t want to leave.
