Before I came to NDSU, I had many expectations for what college was going to be like. Many of my expectations were correct while others have not been as correct. My first month at NDSU has been filled with many new and interesting experiences for me. Throughout this first month, I have had the opportunity to meet many new people, attend classes, and have plenty of free time. Each of these opportunities has consisted of both good and bad experiences; however, I have been able to learn and grow from all of these experiences. I have had the opportunity to meet countless new people over this past month. I had anticipated this opportunity, but I did not realize how important it was going to be for me. Before I came to NDSU, I was an extremely shy individual, but I have recently become more outgoing. I never expected to come to college and suddenly be a highly social individual. This change in my personality has given me the opportunity to meet so many new people. I have enjoyed talking to people and learning about their lives. I have developed many new friendships, and I hope to continue this process in the future. Meeting new …show more content…
Classes in college have been a slight change from classes in high school, which I had expected. The one thing I did not expect was how independent I was going to have to be in my classes. In high school, teachers were extremely helpful in telling you what you needed to do to succeed. I have learned that in college I am going to have to decide what I need to do to succeed. Over the past month, I have slowly been figuring out what I am going to need to do to succeed in each individual class. Another important lesson I have learned is how to stay organized. I am an extremely organized person, but I have had to make adjustments to stay better organized in my classes. My classes over the past month have slowly been teaching me what skills I am going to need to succeed in
Little did I know that I’d be an one semester transfer student. Although the move was during the most important part of the year, my psyche was striving for change and challenges. This situation was survival of the fittest; I had to adapt quickly to Texas and test my boundaries. In Chicago, I was part of FMP ( freshmen Mentor Program) and to get into this program, one must be approachable, Although I was originally outgoing, I had to exceed my pre-determined
Because I am not from Alabama, I knew that this program was going to be an excellent way to get involved and meet people in a smaller setting before classes start – but I never expected the impact that the people I met this week would have had on me. Whether it was the amazing student leaders or the freshman in my project group at Taylorville, I met some of the most genuine people in my life and they really helped to solidify my view of this school and made me feel like I belong here, like I’m home. It wasn’t just the fact that we spent a majority of this past week together that made us connect, but it was our drive to
Goal for my audience: I want my audience to get to know the impact Pi Beta Phi has made on my life. Introduction “When you’re a Pi Phi, you will find a support system like no other. The bond of sisterhood means that you will be surrounded by amazing women that will push you to become the best you can be, offer advice and support in times of need, and help you laugh and have fun through your college years. It doesn’t matter what competitions we win or what awards we receive; what matters is that everyone is allowed to be themselves and each member makes friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.”
All in all, as cliche as it sounds, I learned that anything is possible. If you wish and try for something enough, then anything can happen. I also learned that if a person feels that they are struggling with a problem about themselves, then they can and should change it, even if it seems as if it is
The past few weeks here at the University of Maine at Farmington have been excellent. I had the opportunity to come a week early to try out for the girls soccer team. I didn 't make the team but in retrospect, I think that was the best thing to happen to me. I moved into Dakin on the 24th of August. My roommate there was a sophomore that was here for the field hockey team.
It makes me so happy when my friends tell me how much I have influenced their lives. To them, I am someone who they can always talk to and rely on. I have raised their own confidence levels and showed them that they can do anything. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to change people’s lives without even knowing
Throughout the first week of EOF I’ve learned about many things, but most importantly be grateful for the opportunity getting a higher education beyond a high school degree, that majority of people like me can 't afford. Transition from high school into college is a huge difference because you are now in your own, and even though there are people on campus to help you, you have to take responsibility for your own self. One might be tough but being away from home is hard, since mom is not around to cook those delicious meals, do your laundry, remind you to do your work, take care of you when sick, as well as other things. I’ve learned that transition from high school into a college setting takes time, but it is all about getting used to a new
In college, they learned to keep pushing and never let one thing knock you down. They have told me countless times of how they had to work to go to school and change how they acted around classmates. I learned that if my dad didn’t have that degree I wouldn’t be writing this journal entry right now. It made me appreciate what I have and try to give to others that need help. Encourage people to shoot for the stars and attend that class because something as small as money for a bus ticket can change a person’s
I learned what it took to be successful, that I couldn 't just go through the motions. I learned one of the most important lessons of my college career thus far, and it is this- in order to be successful here (at Texas A&M), you must immerse yourself in every lesson, every lecture, every class. Everything must be 100%, and not a second should go to waste. Each moment is a moment to learn and to better yourself and your knowledge. There will be concepts that you just don 't understand, and when that road block is reached, immediate action must be taken; there 's a commonly spoken line that I never really listened to until recently, and that line is, "don 't be afraid to ask for help!"
In my first clinical placement day as 2nd year St Clair College collaborative nursing student in Metropolitan Hospital, I was assigned to assess the patient (SS) who was recently done 2 surgical procedures , and as I did the routine checkup of the patient’s data from the medical file and chart, it was mentioned that MRSA test was done 3 days ago as the patient was susceptible to it because of lengthy stay in the hospital but the results were not ready yet. At the door of the room there were notice that to use PPE precaution with the other patient sharing the same room of my patient, so I attempted to wash my hands and wear the gloves to get in the room, but my instructor advised me to wear gown too as the MRSA status was not known yet and the other patient is a known case and a nurse came to add the bed number of my patient to the note of using the PPE.
I have taken away many useful strategies and information from the College 101 class I took this summer. This course has given me enough information to help me feel confident that I will be successful in the rest of my highschool experience and my future college experience. This course has given me skills that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Learning to study properly, avoid procrastination, and take notes correctly has been something that has already helped me tremendously. It has helped me feel less stressed on a day-to-day basis as well as improving my school work quality.
My study habits have improved by utilizing advice and tips given to me, and I think that will continue to stay true throughout college. I think the goal setting mindset that I have achieved from this class is also going to be a fundamental part of how I go about my life and career. The time management skills I have will definitely aid me in balancing my free time, my job, and my education. I think all of these things will be very essential to being successful in college. The academic plan that was a part of this class was also very helpful to me, and it made me sit down and create a layout of my education for the foreseeable future.
Overall my first year at Centerline has been faced with many transitions whether with management, work processes and workload. I have viewed these challenges as opportunities to step up as a leader, strategic thinker and problem solver. I always maintain a positive attitude and open mind to receiving feedback. Within the first three months I mastered processing payroll with little supervision during the busiest quarter of the year.
This experience made me realize life is always going to throw curve balls at us, especially when we least expect them, however, how we deal with them and learn from them is what really counts. Without this experience I wouldn’t have realized how important it is to not just coast but actively engage in learning and school As college begins I think this was the perfect book for me to read. I always had the attitude that grades were the most important but starting in as a freshman I now have the mindset that the things I learn and the skills I gain will be as beneficial as a piece of paper that states my degree. The skills I take from college will help in more than just a work setting but in life in general.
College is full of experience and to get that experience students need to get involved in campus and use all the resources that their campus offer. For my first semester at university I learned lots of information that helped me go through my first semester and I will keep using this resources until I graduate. and these resources are not just for school but also for my personal life. The first thing I have learned in college is how to manage my time and it's important to know that skill so that I would not waste time doing nothing and get schoolwork done and it won’t make me stressful because I have many assignment and project to do. and to always get done with my priority first which is my school work.
