Leadership a hard thing to define. There is no one definition that can incorporate every individual 's personal leadership style. Each leader has to decide for him or herself what their approach to leadership will be and how they want to approach it. Some people believe that leadership is an quality that you are born with, I do not believe that is the case. Leadership is a skill that can be not only taught, but continually improved on. A true leader is capable of inspiring others and influencing them to work together to achieve a common goal. There are different ways to look at leadership and we have discussed multiple ways in class. One theory we discussed was leadership and power. This is a very complex theory because it is a fine line to walk on. This is difficult because without power a leader cannot influence others to jump into action. However, at the same time too much power can be detrimental to a leader. There are different sources where power can come from. It can come from the position a leader holds, power from past experiences or memories, respect from admiration of others, through rewarding followers, and also through punishments or criticism. Some amount of power will always be there when you are a leader but it is necessary to keep it in check and not abuse it. When a leader abuses power it can be destructive to them as not only a leader but also as a person. To maintain a level head when granted power a leader must have understanding and use it as often as they use their power. Situational leadership is another example of a leadership theory. This leadership is focused on the leader however, the leader takes not only the followers but also the situation into account. Through different methods of behaviors a leader is able change his or her leadership style to appropriately fit with the followers and the task at hand to achieve best results. Each leader has a different leadership style that can be studied and each one can be used in a different scenario. Situation leadership is very effective when a leader is aware of what the task
When I think of leadership, I think of it as a skill that not everyone can develop. For me, it took numerous times of being a follower or a leader, before developing this skill and form the type of leader that I wanted to become. The particular leadership experience that I’m most proud of would have to be leading my high school wrestling team. I started off the season by enthusiastically creating an atmosphere that new members of the team would feel welcomed and strengthened the bonds I had with veteran members.
To me, leadership mean being responsible and someone who can manage time really well. A leader can walk their followers to the right path of success. Someone who is in control because of their personality of trustworthiness and always deliberative from the world which is unpredictable. I currently exhibit leadership while working on any project for my college or high school classes. I take the role of a leader and always work diligently enough to get good compliments from peers and instructors.
Positions of power or leadership can be accessed by many, but aren’t always used to help the people under them. There are two main forms of power, constructive power, in which the leader helps and protects the people, and destructive power, in which the leader only helps themself and disregards the needs of others. Both constructive and destructive leadership can be found throughout William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, a play about a man’s ruthless journey to power. Constructive leadership can also be found in Martin Luther King Jr’s speech, I Have A Dream, which challenges segregation issues of the time.
The Most Effective Power Power is an effective tool used by leaders to control others. Although many leaders use power to influence others, there are different genres of power they can use. However, only one power is the most effective. Lord of the Flies by William Golding and the article, “Power and Leadership: An Influence Process” by Fred C. Lunenburg illustrate many genres of powers used by leaders. The most acceptable form of power to use is reward power because people are more likely to follow a leader that provides them with benefits.

Leadership is the ability to guide or influence others with an objective of achieving a desired outcome. It involves influencing beliefs, opinions, values, perceptions, or behaviors of an individual or a group, and it is an amalgamation of inherent personality traits, learned skills, and it is a response to situational stimuli. I believe that, at any particular moment, where two or more individuals are interacting, one of them will emerge as the leader the other(s). To me, this means leadership role is fluid, and it changes as situational stimuli changes. For instance, during interpersonal interaction involving two individual, the leadership role has potential to shift from one individual to the other, as the situational stimuli changes.

There are many different views and perceptions on leadership and what it exactly means. This is because there are many different types of leaders and many different views on them. Studies of famous historical leaders have been used to identify various traits for this theory. Although the list of traits differs from study to study, there are five major traits that are consistent throughout most studies.
