Failure is not easy to cope with. Failure gives people a sense of apprehension, a lack of confidence that they are not capable of achieving their goals. Although it does not feel the best at the time, this is where success is made. Starting off my ice hockey career at the age of 5 I met many new faces and did not realize at the time that one sport would have such an impact on my life. Through the ups, and the downs, ice hockey has taught me how to be a hard worker, contribute to society, and most of all, how to handle situations when the tide is against you. Here is where my journey, and also the most dreaded part of the year comes, tryout season. My summer went as planned. Working very hard to achieve my goal of making the best team I could. Being smaller than everyone else, I knew I had to set my standards higher and work harder than everyone else to keep up. I became obsessed. There was always something about that crunch on the ice when I took that step into my cross-over, the speed of the game, the intensity, and the gift of being able to play alongside 20 of my brothers to achieve the common goal of doing something bigger than all of us. I opened that heavy entrance door for the ice rink and immediately felt that rush of eagerness to lace up the skates. With this in mind, I took a step onto that ice and my tryout debut was incredible. I was ecstatic feeling that all my hard work was starting …show more content…
This whole process enlightened me on how to handle situations that are not the best, and also how to always keep a positive spirit even when the clouds are covering the sun. A problem with most is that all they look and care about is the end result. Success is not determined by the end result, but the process to which one gets there. Those long nights training, working so hard to achieve their dream. No one becomes successful overnight. And without this lesson, I would not have become the young man I am
So when the first day of the season came, I went to the first practice. After the first I wanted to quit. My whole entire body was sore and I was exhausted. I stuck it out and realized that the sport isn 't bad at all. So next season I really tried hard and became Toll Gate High School 's first Division
How life goes on we experience a lot of things that can either teach us an important lesson or nothing at all. I have learned more than one lesson in my life, but there’s one that I will always keep in mind to help others like it helped me. Thanks to John Tyler High School Drill Team I have self-confidence and courage to do risky things that I never thought I would be doing. Now I believe in myself and I don’t let fear dull my success, I fight for what I want until I get it even if it take a long time, I don’t give up that easy anymore.
As a student athlete, I have learned to use failure as an opportunity to learn. The moments in which I have "failed" have only helped me grow and reflect on the mistakes that not only I have made, but also those made by others. I was forced to do this multiple times throughout my final season of high school field hockey. Even though the team had players who were devoted and had a true desire to win, the season ended as a losing record in the books. As the primary goalie and captain, this was extremely difficult to accept.
Jay was shooting lacrosse balls at a target, Lacrosse was his second favorite sport after hockey. Usually he would shoot to get better but this time he was shooting at his anger. What did he do to deserve this, school had just ended and spring lacrosse had just started. But this season jason couldn’t play because of his knee. He had been skiing at his family 's cabin in the cabin and torn his meniscus.
During my short life, I have not had many life altering experiences; however, one thing that has changed me for the better is playing hockey. Since I started playing hockey in eighth grade it has been something I have become passionate about for various reasons. One reason is my love for the game in general, and more specifically for playing goalie, the one position that holds the balance of the scoreboard. The second reason is being a part of a team. This is important to me because it gives a strong sense of purpose to the player.
With only having a few month of experience, preseason was a rude awakening on what I was getting myself into. But overcoming the challenges and persistent hard work, i won myself a position as a swing player on varsity. This means as a freshman just starting, I was to be getting varsity playing time. There was another senior class and junior class goalie on the team, so basically I had the spot of the assistant assistant goalie. This also changed that year.
During my years playing hockey as a kid, I experienced many stressful situations both first hand and observed through teammates and coaches. One occasion in particular stands out, mostly due to how I was able to influence it. I was playing goal for a junior hockey team in BC, and my goalie partner at the time was very intense and emotional person. Certain things that were seemingly insignificant to me and to the other teammates, he took personally and often let it affect his state of mind and even his performance at times. Things like, players shooting pucks into his net at then end of drills and players celebrating or cheering after scoring goals in practice would really get under his skin.
Ice Hockey is one of the most entertaining sports you could see or play. I would only assume most people love at least one sport but there has been quite an issue on which sport is the best. Ice Hockey is debatably the best sport ever created because of its intensity of the sport, the amazing experience of playing at a competitive level, and Hockey is always changing. People who watch hockey, without knowing the rules of the game, usually can understand that the speed and intensity of the game is very high. On average, a normal hockey player at any level will spend about forty-five seconds on the ice.
First home run Crack! The ball flew off the bat and went as high as a bird in the sky. Aaron is a young 11 year old boy who loves playing baseball whenever he can. Every Time that he would step up to the plate he was always swing for the fence and dreamed about hitting the ball over and seeing all the fans cheer as he rounded the bases. All of times Aaron had played he never had home run but was always close sometimes hitting the wall just short of the ball going over it: but today that was about to change.

Ice hockey is a very fun and active sport a lots of people enjoy it because they can be a little rough. You can push people over and just rough house. Hockey was what I loved but knowing that I wanted to be able to live long and healthy, I knew the end was coming. Three broken teeth, three concussions and two broken arms, my hockey career was over. These experiences have influenced a lot on my life like, enjoy what you have right away, live each day to the fullest, anything can happen in a blink of an eye,
I have many memories but, the one that is the most vivid is when my family and I went on vacation and went ice skating. This was the first vacation we had ever gone on as a family. My Family and I vacationed in the most elegant of nature. I thought to myself “Tennessee is so peaceful and heartwarming”. I enjoyed the way the sun shined through the trees so softly, the slight howling of the wind while it blew through my hair, and the heavy scent of oak trees in the middle of fall had me mesmerized.
When I ice skate I feel like Bambi when he tries to walk for the first time on the ice. On Sunday, my cousin, Elizabeth, texted me to ask if I want to go ice skating with her at the Pettit Center and even though I am horrible at skating, I said yes just to see her. Once we were dropped off, rented our skates, and climbed our way up to the rink I was regretting a little about coming. Now, I am not afraid of ice skating, but I am so bad it was a little bit of weird feeling to do it again. I ended up falling a total of five times, but my cousin tried to make it better by saying that I am still better than her boyfriend at ice skating.
Gliding across the ice now bring me joy. Also a certain sense of freedom from my clumsy walking. If you had asked me 8 years ago what I thought of skating, I would tell you it could end for all I care. But now, my heart is stuck on the ice. Just last summer my mom and I taught my brother how to skate.
