Overpopulation Satire

This lecture is trying to shape what people are going to eat and where they are going to get their food from. Mark clarified that, “we need to start acting”, (Mark Bitman 2007, transcript 8:35). on the overproduction and consumption of meat and junk food. It is proven that the more plants we eat the longer we will live. This information is backing up his idea and showing that it is logical making him more trustworthy.

During the talk by Dr. David Galbraith, several global questions were raised. The most prominent one that came to my mind during the talk was how we are going to survive on a planet that we cannot leave, yet one that we have depleted our natural resources by 98.5%. Are you a believer that most of the things in life are caused by ongoing environmental issues? To counteract or prevent the effects of despair one needs to do something that is to be in action so that we are not in sorrow tomorrow. Don’t allow despair. Instead, do something about it. In “Despair Not” by Sandra Steingraber she mentions what is happening on our planet and what is happening to our bodies also.

We are Mexico's dumping ground for their poor, uneducated and unskilled people. That makes us its social safety net. We bear the costs that Mexico should bear. Mexico's government actively encourages its disadvantaged people to immigrate to the United States, illegally or otherwise.

Our environment had been endangered of becoming unsafe, threatening, and even deadly. “The water we drink, the food we eat, the very air that we breathe, are threatened with pollution. Our parks are overcrowded, our seashores overburdened. Green fields and dense forests are disappearing.” Johnson stresses that the health of people and environment is at risk because Americans have allowed for the destruction of nature to get out of hand, and causing both the Earth and human health at risk of becoming an ugly America, due to –as Johnson references- the “Ugly American” (“Great Society”).

Satire is the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues. A literary work in which human foolishness or vice is attacked through irony, derision, or wit. Mockery is teasing and contemptuous language or behavior directed at a particular person or thing. Also the behavior or speech that makes fun of someone or something in a hurtful way. “The Rape of the Lock” by Alexander Pope and “My Satirical Self” by Wyatt Mason from The New York times are both about satire and mockery.
