The person who I chose is Oskar Schindler. He saved thousands of Jews from murder. He was born in 1908 in a province of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. He worked as a businessman. Schindler was working for the Nazi party when he saved about twelve-hundred Jews from the Holocaust. He had many flaws like excessive drinking and womanizing, but to many eyes, he is a hero. Although Oskar Schindler may be seen as a traitor or a cheater, he rescued innocent people from death, which makes him a true hero. Oskar Schindler was born on April 28, 1908 in Moravia. Schindler had many occupations including a farming assistant, a lance corporal, and a German businessman. However, he was the most successful as a wartime profiteer. At his peak, he had about 1,750 workers under his employment, and one thousand of them were Jewish. Overtime, his daily interactions with them caused him to gain relationships with many Jews. Because of this, and his work as a German spy, he bribed Nazi officers to not deport or execute any …show more content…
In February 1939, Schindler did the unthinkable. He saved 1,200 Jews from deportation to Auschwitz, Nazi Germany’s largest killing center. He took those Jews and himself to Krakow, Poland and bought about four businesses. One of the businesses that he purchased was an enamelware manufacturing factory in which he hired all of the Jews that he saved. He also took some of the Jews to Buenos Aires. Because of his actions, he was awarded with some prestigious honors. In 1963, he was honored by the state of Israel as Righteous Among the Nation, which is an award given to non Jews who helped save Jews during the Holocaust. In 1993, he was presented with the Museum’s Medal of Remembrance from the United States Holocaust Memorial Council. Although he may have been a member of the most inhumane party of all time, he did the right thing and liberated thousands of people from
Imagine being torn from your home, forced into camps, discriminated against to the extreme, separated from your family, and possibly even killed just because of your religious beliefs. Many of Europe's Jews suffered this treatment. About 5-6 million jews out of 9 million Jews died in the holocaust. Marion Blumenthal-Lazan, was a jew who did not die. She should receive the Holocaust Medal of Honour.
Thomas Buergenthal had a few different occupations in america including, being the author/co-author of over a dozen books, being the honorary president of the american society of international law. He also was the recipient of many different prizes and awards. To this day Thomas Buergenthal is 77 years old and retired. Although that the Holocaust is over, that does not mean that people who survived it still dread what they had to go through. According to TheJC.com, Thomas Buergenthal has a hard time too, “It's strange because I can't go to movies about the Holocaust or watch television programmes”
Simon Wiesenthal born on December 31, 1908, in Austria-Hungary, was a survivor of numerous Nazi concentration camps. Simon's experiences allow us to gain a deeper understanding of how the Holocaust has impacted his life. His experience profoundly impacted his mental & emotional health, the loss in his life and the influence it had on him to become a Nazi hunter. On July 6, 1941, Wiesenthal was arrested and taken to Brigidki Prison and managed to escape. After the escape he was forced to move to the ghettos and was eventually taken to the Janowska concentration camp.
Elie Wiesel: The Great Humanitarian Elie Wiesel Elie Wiesel was born and raised in Sighetu Marmatiei,Romania until 1944,where he and his family were separated in Auschwitz, and that is where his mother, sisters, grandmother had died. Also while he was there Wiesel had to overcome Death of his family members, Starvation, and. Abuse. These adversities made Elie Wiesel become the man he is today; he is truly a humanitarian. Wiesel had to overcome the death of his family members.
A wartime hero during the holocaust was a man named Raoul Wallenberg. Wallenberg helped save over an estimated 100,000 people from the Nazis by issuing fake passports and housing jews. This was a pure act of humanity and compassion. Raoul didn 't care if he would be punished or killed but instead made a selfless act to help another person. There were many cases just like this one
Does being a hero means to be a murder? In the novel Dawn and Day, by Elie Wiesel, Elisha is a young 18 year old adult who fights his way through concentration camps not knowing what lies ahead. His family is separated from him and all hope that he had, seems to not last. He is convinced into a terrorist group that becomes a great worldly known group. Just when he thinks all hell is over he is dragged into a situation that could change his life forever.
In this essay, I’ll be telling you my opinion on whether Andrew Carnegie was a hero or not. Andrew Carnegie, known as the king of steel, grew up poor, but became one of the richest and most successful business owner during the 1800s and 1900s. Much of the world regarded Carnegie as the most famous living American during his time. Andrew Carnegie was not a hero because he showed off his money, treated his workers poorly, and was selfish. First of all, Andrew Carnegie flashes his wealth.
Today I will talk about one other Leader named Chiune Sugihara who was a Japanese diplomat who helped thousands of Jews escape Lithuania, about 6,000 Jews to be exact. These three people and many more saved more than tens of thousands of Jews during World War 2 and it is time they be remembered. First I will be talking about Corrie ten Boom. She and her family started helping Jews from the very beginning starting with sending them to
He used them in his factory because they were slave labor and they didn’t have to be paid. In the end Schindler befriended them, Itzhak Stern, his business manager was a very good friend. Schindler let the Jews celebrate the Sabbath, gave them adequate food, and didn’t make them work to hard. Schindler was very friendly to the Jews and treated them well.
One of the most horrific things that happened during the 20th century was World War One. World War One was where Hitler, the leader of Germany, decided that Jews were the worst religion and that everybody who was Jewish should be killed. Many Jewish businesses were torn down, Synagogues were destroyed, and it was total madness. With all this madness somebody had to do something about it. While Carl Lutz isn’t as famous as the other Holocaust upstanders, his actions of housing and taking care of many Jews showed his bravery.
It will, therefore, be correct to claim that he was a hero, as he dared to do what people even twice his age could not have dared to. He commanded respect despite his age. For instance, he declared himself an emperor and claimed he was a greater ruler than anybody who had lived. That was an act of heroism and portrayed the government as very cruel and in need of a change. According to Harrison, he was the change needed for better
Rudolf Vrba proved that under any circumstances you can have the courage to speak out and do what you believe in. Rudolf Vrba expressed great moral courage during and after the Holocaust
Elie Wiesel and his family made the decision to not bear witness for many reasons, but in the end they came to regret it. His way of making sure that others do not make the same mistake was through his memoir Night. The only thing thing that came from The Holocaust are the lessons we learn from it. This is why it is essential for people to bear witness at all times. History tries to repeat itself.
Many people believe that Andrew Carnegie was a hero. I disagree, I believe that he was not a hero but a robber baron. Throughout every aspect of his life including his personal life, business approach, and his philanthropy show that he was not a hero. He has done many wrong and unjust things in these parts of his life they prove that he was not heroic. Not only is he not heroic
Introduction This assignment was to write an essay on anyone who is considered a hero and evaluate them on their heroism. For this assignment I have chosen Winston Churchill the ex prime minister of Britain during the second World War. I decided to choose Winston Churchill as my hero because he was a very famous figure from recent european history. The research question I chose for this assignment was: what were Winston Churchill’s major achievements from 1893 to 1944.
