Nurses provide a vital role in the health care system. Sure, we may not be able to diagnose or write prescriptions. However, we are the main advocates for the patients. We also stand by the side of our patients through their entire hospital stay. It is the nurse who notices the smallest changes in their patients.

For over fifteen years I have enjoyed being an LPN. Working in nursing homes taught me to how to patience and how to use my knowledge to help my patients to the best of my ability. My time as an alcohol and drug rehabilitation nurse helped me to appreciate the courage it takes to admit to a problem, ask for help and the strength it takes to work to get better. Working in a hospital taught me to how to work in a fast paced setting while keeping my sanity intact.

I need to improve on diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and meeting clients’ needs (physical). Demographics –I did not do well in this area. Client Needs – I did well in all but health promotion and maintenance and physiological integrity.

My knowledge in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) continues to expand as I progress through the DNP program. The knowledge I have attained while in the study of the DNP I and DNP II is priceless. For example, recognizing stakeholders and utilizing networking has helped me to progress on my DNP project (Gokenbach, 2012). I also have a better understanding as well as the purpose of a DNP project. My mentors have been great in directing me in remaining on the right track.

I came to Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) after transferring from Gallaudet University. I found that what I was required to take a pre-course before taking the real credit courses at TNCC called English Fundamentals 1. So, I took the class that my counselor and my interpreter, who worked in 25 years at TNCC, recommended me to meet Ms. Dubbé. This semester I have improved my reading and writing skills. I am a better student because I have learned effective strategies and pondered over my future goals.

I am driven by the desire to ensure that all patients, regardless of their background have access to compassionate and equitable care. I aspire to be an advocate for patients from all walks of life, ensuring they feel valued, understood, and supported throughout their healthcare journey. With my background, I bring empathy and cultural sensitivity to my practice, fostering a healing environment where patients are truly heard and respected. As a future PA, I am dedicated to delivering effective patient-centered care and contributing to a more inclusive healthcare

Each morning patients came in for assessment and the treatment team developed or altered existing treatment protocols. I longed to be part of this team, working to stabilize each patient so they could return home to pursue their goals. The nurses stood out to me as the team members at ground zero in the unit, working directly with patients, and advocating for them in meetings. As a Nurse Practitioner, I will provide this same standard of holistic care to my patients, taking into consideration their biological, social, psychological and cultural needs while developing and implementing treatment decisions.

The first eight years of my life, I spent in India where I was born. Growing up I was constantly reminded by my parents that I needed to make them proud by getting a good job and living a good lifestyle. They told me this because they did not want to see me live a hard life like they did. When I was nine years old, I moved from India to the United States of America. The reason why I moved to America was not because I was living a bad life in India, it was so that I could have a better education and more opportunities in life.

The first day I stepped onto the floor, I felt overwhelmed and I questioned myself if I was meant for this line of work. I was assigned 14 patients. Soon after interacting with all my patients, my perspective and doubts changed. After leaving for college; I started my college days as a full time pre-nursing student. Implementing plan of care, evaluate outcomes and help patient reach their goals, according to their plan of care. There are many things I can’t do right now as an LPN, such as IV push, teaching, assessments, etc. but once I become an RN my goal will be accomplished. As of now my goal is to pass all my classes and understand the information provided to me and applied them in the lab, clinical and everywhere else it seems to be needed. In the clinical setting, the nurses’ expertise can be used to make clinical assessments and recommendations for routine care at a lower cost than a physician visit. This would increase the number of patients seen and increase the quality of the care provided. The advance practice nurse would be able to hone in on preventative measures and increase patient education. The advance practice nurse can also make recommendations about practice changes needed to facilitate better health outcomes through the use of evidence-based practice. Nursing leaders are aware of how important nursing science is to provide needed evidence to transform practice, even though, finding the time and resources to support any research activity is often challenging (Stone, 2017).

One of my duties is also to support my client with their hospital appointments by doing so I have been able to experience first-hand the exceptional work that nurses do and the dedication they show within the role. The ability to sympathize with the patient and address any further medication that the family or careers will have to administrate at home. I gave birth to my first child in July I received so much support from the staff in the hospital I learn so many things from them.

I believe a job as a certified nurse assistant will give me a better insight while working beside nurses and observe what set of skills nurses use. My strengths that best suit my personality and this program are determination, effort, caring, critical thinker, discipline, and enthusiastic. These qualities would reflect on a nurse and would make caring for the patient easier. I believe that I belong in the nursing field, because ever since I was a child, I always wanted to make a positive influence in people's lives.

I am in my third year of nursing and I am currently working in a hospital on an Orthopedic Neurological Trauma Unit. I collaborate with patients to identify the prominent health issues they are experiencing and advocate to ensure the care they receive is the most effective for their healing process. Patient interaction, learning new skills and evidence based practice, and being hands on with patient care are the benefits of my job that I enjoy the most. I form a bond with these patients and listen to their personal story to ensure that I give care individualized for each patient.
