Mr. Millar, a Spanish teacher at my high school and the advisor for our chapter of the National Honor Society, was a man whom I grew to respect and admire during my first year in NHS. Sure, he was a little eccentric, but his students loved him for his easy going method of teaching and his cross country runners cherished his countless amusing idiosyncrasies; consequently, I was shocked when I stumbled across a particular article on a local news website. “The Michigan State Police notified Howell Public Schools that Duane Millar, a Howell High School teacher and coach was arraigned in the 54B District Court in Ingham County.” My mind raced as I read on, “the charges were on one count of possession of child sexually abusive material... as well as one count of using a computer to commit a crime.” I had known him for almost a year at this point, a year in which I had worked closely with him as an officer in NHS. We planned events, raised money for charities, completed innumerable community service hours, and built a respect for our organization in the …show more content…
At a time of uncertainty and volatility, I stepped up and decided to lead when no one else was able to. Our chapter’s motto is “noblesse oblige”- the idea that those who have been provided insight and opportunity must give back for the good of the community. All members of NHS had worked assiduously to achieve and maintain a position of respect and recognition. Now it was time for us to help others arrive at a similar position for themselves. Through mentoring, tutoring, and volunteering, we can help those who may not possess the same skills as we do, to attain their own ambitions. I was confident that someone in my position- someone who knew about how the organization was run and what needed to be done to improve the deteriorating group- needed to help the in the difficult
When presented with the opportunity of being an NHS officer, I knew there was only one position for me, a job I implement every day, Social Media Chair. Now, when I say I do this job every day, I do not mean just being a teen on social media; I am the leader of a growing
The Los Angeles County police sent a letter to over two-hundred parents of current and former students. The letter suggested that there was a possibility that their kids might have been molested. In a matter of days, parents all over the county began accusing the Mc Martin staff of rape and other charges. The letter which included a filled-out form had words like “oral sex”, “fondling of genitals”, and “sodomy”. These terms soon turned parents into a troop of angry citizens that demanded justice and answers to their accusations.
As we mentioned earlier, the freshman’s mother mentioned to coach McElroy the fact that the upperclassman was calling her son those insulting names. This incident could have been foreseeable by the coaches, and possibly the administration, if the coach reported anything to the principal and athletic director. The Mepham High School football season was eventually cancelled and the three upperclassman were charged with “involuntary deviate sexual intercourse,” “aggravated assault,” “kidnapping,” “unlawful restraint,” “false imprisonment,” “terroristic threats,” “criminal coercion,” “simple assault,” “reckless endangering of another person,” “ethnic intimidation,” and “criminal conspiracy.” Judge Robert J. Conway chose to try the accused as juveniles.
This essay is going to reflect on my own management and leadership style in delivering patient care. It will discuss the effectiveness of the other leadership and management style within the multi-disciplinary team and its impact on delivering patient care. I will use as an example, my previous experience back home as a nurse and compare it to my current experience in the United Kingdom (UK). This will show my strength and weakness as well as my new learning skills, which have changed my practice. I will be using Driscoll model of reflection (2007) to guide my thought and refine my ideas.
McCarter describes thoroughly the consequences STPP has on the nation’s school-age youth, including but not limited to increased exposure the criminal justice system, and gives solutions that schools can implement that will hopefully limit the overwhelming amount of students coming in contact with the STPP. The article proves that zero tolerance policies are not conducive to a safe school environment and does not foster a safe learning climate for
The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars; Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Scholarship is one of the most important pillars to me. Scholarship means not only doing well in school and getting good grades, but applying what I have learned and using it everyday. I know the importance of education and feel that I am a lifelong learner. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in a family where education is a priority.
It is an honor to be nominated for the National Honor Society. The fact that I was nominated proves to me that all of my hard work and dedication has not been for nothing. The National Honor Society is known for recognizing students who strive to achieve their best not only in school but in themselves and the community. I believe that I’m one of those students. Based upon my last two year at Matawan Regional I now have a 3.9 GPA and am ranked in the top 20% of my graduating class.
I was very honored to know that I qualified as a possible candidate for the National Honor Society. To be honest, I never thought of being in the National Honor Society. Therefore, when I got pulled out of class I immediately thought I had done something wrong. I went home that day and told my mom about it. My mom looked me in the eyes and told me that she was very proud of me and gave me a big hug.
It is a great honor to be nominated as a member of the National Honor Society. There are many reasons why I want to take part in NHS. One reason why I want to be in it is to continue to grow academically with people who have the same goals as me. I want to be encouraged, not discouraged by the people around me. If I get into NHS, it will give me a lot of opportunities to be a leader.
The National Honor Society is an opportunity for many students, who are well educated with dreams and leaderships skills, to upgrade themselves. The sole purpose of this organization is to endeavor leaders in different societies to help out their community. It will help colleges to notify the leaders when looking at students’ resumes, for those students in this organization will be the few who are well-developed leaders in their school. Since this will be the first time to be given the opportunity to contribute to this organization, I may not know everything about the requirements in which I need to manage.
During this last year I spent countless hours after school between practices for all of the different teams and events that we had, such as the jingle bell jog, a 5k jog that our battalion has hosted every year for the last 5 years, drill practices and competitions, as well as practices for color guard events at basketball games, football games, and school assemblies. I also spent time participating in physical training after school, and joined the raider team. Because of this training, I got in better shape and actually ran in a few 5k races over the last year. I also was part of our honor guard and participated in practices and events related to the honor guard. I also shot in competitions with our rifle team at Montgomery Bell in Nashville,
Modern honor in America is something that we give through acknowledgment. This is done through awards and medals. Some of the medal that is given out is the medal of honor and the Nobel peace prize, however some people are honored to an amount that they do not deserve it. Honor can be defined in many different ways.
As a precaution, I will write my reflections into a diary at the end of each day and when I am challenged as a qualified Registered Nurse, I can look back onto these entries and decide what I can do better in order to be fully
My vision was that education would illuminate our care; we would gain the knowledge and change our practises. This seemed very achievable after all the nursing staff are educated to a very high standard with a wealth of experience to draw on .The carers are all now trained to NVQ standards.
I volunteered at this organization and did many things while I was there. I assisted the organization by doing some lawn work and mentoring children at one of the many events this place offers. I improved the looks of their facility by cleaning their
