The College of Staten Island's (CSI) nursing program is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Education of Nurses (ACEN). CSI offers a unique program where students are allowed to get an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree and then get a Bachelor of Science (BS). The AAS program is open to all students and allows them to achieve foundation to the generalist nursing practice. The program prepares you to take the national exam, NCLEX. Students can complete the AAS program in about 2 years. Once passing the NCLEX, they can look for job opportunities. Located in New York City, in a very diverse and urban neighborhood, the mission statement is relatable to the serving population. The values are diversity, empathy, excellence, innovation, and respect. The school is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Both CSI and Hunter require students to take prerequisites before applying to the nursing program. One of the prerequisites that Hunter students have to take is the US Experience in its Diversity class. This class supports the school's mission statement and values because of the emphasis on diversity. Both CSI and Hunter require students to take the NLN exam as an admission criterion for the nursing program. Hunter’s nursing program website mentions a Nursing Scholars Program for students who are highly engaged to pursue nursing education. The benefit of this program besides the contribution to nursing education and care, is that students receive guaranteed direct admission to the school of nursing. There is no mention of a nursing theorist that guides the school's development of framework. On the website for the bachelor of nursing program, there is a mission and philosophy statement. The mission statement discusses preparing students for life-long learning to deliver quality nursing care in a global environment. The philosophy statement discusses the importance of educational improvement for students. There is no mention of a nursing theorist that helps to guide the school. The school is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The program’s website mentions state-of-the-art technology integrating high fidelity simulated patients, electronic patient record systems, and patient-centered care to help students with patient care in this tech-driven professional environment. It also emphasizes that there are small class sizes and 8:1 student-faculty ratio in practicum, something that CSI and Hunter College does not mention.
