Michelangelo The Italian Renaissance created a culture change for Europe, and allowed artist with the ability to think freely and express themselves, and would assist in connecting the medieval age to the modern age. How magnificent would it be to travel across the world and see many great paintings, sculptures, and amazing architect perfected by artist from many different backgrounds and styles during the Italian Renaissance? Of all the beauty and wonders in the world the main thing on my bucket list is to visit the Vatican in Rome and see the absolutely marvelous Sistine Chapel painted by the great Michelangelo. Did you know that Michelangelo did not really even prefer to paint, even though he produced such great art work?

Michelangelo Michelangelo lived a very long and eventful life. He had a fairly rough childhood and a spent most of his life as a lonely artist. He was very difficult to get along with and had few friends. He once got into a fight with a disputing artist, and as a result, he suffered a broken nose (Krull 17). He did not have many personal friends.

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was one of the greatest sculptors and painters of the Italian Renaissance period, which shaped him into being a brilliant architect. Michelangelo was a master of many disciplines, giving him a new and unique influence to the development of Western art. He often said that he was neither an architect nor a painter, he was both. He brought a quality in his architecture that distinguished the beginning of a transition, away from the ideals of classical art and into a more modern type of art. Architecture developed into Michelangelo's primary career in the last thirty years or so of his life.

About 10 years later, Leonardo started painting his first instructed work, for Florence’s San Donato, entitled the “Adoration of the Magi” (Leonardo da Vinci,” History.com). Da Vinci never finished that work, because he moved to Milan. There da Vinci worked for the ruling Sforza clan, allowing him to utilize his wide range of skills, such as sculpting, designing, painting, and engineering. Leonardo da Vinci saw no division between science and the arts, in fact, he felt the two subjects were connected, which was a common thought process during the Renaissance period. Da Vinci was asked to make a large statue along with the help of others which took 12 years to complete.

It is a 17 foot marble statue that depicts the biblical hero, David. Another one of his more famous works is the Pieta which is located in Vatican City. The sculpture depicts Jesus on his mother Mary’s lap after the Crucifixion. This is the only piece of artwork that Michelangelo ever signed. The Last Judgment is a fresco that Michelangelo painted on the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel.

In 1492 Michelangelo moved to Bologna and there he continued carving and painting. Michelangelo’s adventure had only just begun as he started to paint and carve! Michelangelo’s art was characterized by Biblical figures such as Creation and the fall of man.

However, Michelangelo’s style was a great departure from the rest of his High Renaissance contemporaries. He rejected the mathematical approach of creating perfect measurements and instead argued that beauty in art should be based on what is seen by the eyes and not based on perfect proportions achieved through calculations. Michelangelo’s belief about the beauty of art is clearly shown in his sculptures. While Mary is too large in relation to the adult Christ cradled in her lap, the proportional inaccuracy of Michelangelo’s Pieta is overlooked due to his stunning work in “[transforming] marble into flesh, hair, and fabric” (Kleiner 634). In fact, Michelangelo was consistent in that he was less concerned with “facial features and expressions than for the overall human form” (639).

He created art that transformed people's lives, and inspired millions to follow in his footsteps. Leonardo da Vinci was born out of wedlock, and not raised by his mother, but by his stepmothers. Finally, Michelangelo has introduced many different techniques that are still used in today’s society. Michelangelo’s artwork affects the modern-day society by playing a role in modern day art, daily life and even fashion. Michelangelo had a gigantic influence on the renaissance. He was a master at both painting and sculpting, he also was an architect, engineer, and poet. During his day he was unbeatable in his painting and sculpting skills. He had many artist study under him and help him with painting the Sistine Chapel in Vatican, but none were on par with him.

Most people know Leonardo Da Vinci as being painter but he was also a sculptor, architect, engineer, musician, inventor and scientist. Da Vinci was a hard worker and had a creative soul that reflected in all his work. From the Renaissance to present day Leonardo Da Vinci work is still admired and constantly influences people all around the world. Leonardo Da Vinci was one of the most gifted, well rounded artist of the Renaissance. This can been proven through research and collected data.

This time, he was given a commission to paint again. He has to paint “The Battle of Anghiari” that was supposed to be placed in the council hall of the Palazzo Vecchio. However, he was hired by the governor of Milan and he left Florence leaving his incomplete piece of art. Before leaving for Milan, he painted one of the most popular pieces of art in the history of mankind. He was commissioned to paint a portrait of the wife of a rich merchant.
