Leonardo da Vinci was educated in many subjects, he was skilled in painting, music, sculpting and architure. Da Vinci studied mathematics, geology, anatomy, botany, astronomy also engineering. While he was painting the last last supper while he was sponsored by the Duke of Milan. Michelangelo painted on the ceiling of the sistine chapel under the order of Pope Julius the second and the last judgment on the chapels front wall. Also Michelangelo was ranked as one of the greatest artist of his time.

He wasn’t just a sculptor though, he was also very talented in architecture, poetry, and paintings. One of his most famous pieces is the Pieta. He created this sculpture when he was twenty five years old. This sculpture is Mary who is holding Jesus who is dead. He is laying across her lap. Michelangelo angled Jesus this way to show that Mary was holding Jesus up and to show that he was dead.

Michelangelo started his life in the Italian Renaissance as a painter, sculptor, and architect. His work demonstrated a blend of psychological insight, physical realism and intensity never before seen. He is most known works of art consisted of the sculpture David and the Painting of the Sistine chapel.

Finally, Michelangelo has introduced many different techniques that are still used in today’s society. Michelangelo’s artwork affects the modern-day society by playing a role in modern day art, daily life and even fashion. Michelangelo’s full name is Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni and is Italian. He was born on March 6,1475 in Caprese, Italy and died on February 18, 1564 in Rome, Papal States. Throughout those main years of 1508-1512, some of his greatest works on the ceiling were “Temptation” and the “Creation of Adam”. On the ceiling there are nine scenes from Genesis, which include the Creation of Adam. In the Creation of Adam is where God and Adam are almost touching fingers. The work that Michelangelo did for the Sistine Chapel was not easy, “the labour was physically as well as emotionally exhausting. He had to paint standing, looking upwards for long periods of time”

March 6, 1475, in Caprese, Tuscany, Michelangelo was born. His family was once prosperous family of Florentine bankers but hard times had come. His father was forced to take a job in Caprese as a judicial administrator. After he was born his family moved from caprese to florence. There his mother became ill and died so he had to go to Settignaro.

In 1501, in Florence, he was commissioned a 50 feet high David for the front of the Duomo. Some other artist had already begun carving this David. It was the first big assignment that Michelangelo had received in his home city. He wanted to make it grand so he made changes to its general Florence interpretation. Once the statue had been completed, it was so unique and grand that the Duomo committee decided to place it in an area that was more prominent, ultimately choosing the Palazzo Vecchio (Holroyd, 2006).

The famous Michelangelo was an Italian Sculptor and painter during the Renaissance that made a very big impact on art in the way that we see art today. This well known sculpture in the catholic religion that I will be talking to you about today is called the Michelangelo’s Pieta. I say well known because relating to religion it is a sculpture is the scene of the Pieta that shows Mary is holding Christ after his crucification on the cross, removal from the cross, death and before he was placed into the tomb. I chose this one because it really captured my attention. I found it more interesting looking at the different designs that Michelangelo put into it.
