I thoroughly enjoyed this book it's written by Mike Lupica who writes other sport books like this one. It kept my attention the whole time and was one of the few books that I actually enjoyed. It was about this boy named Michael he was a all star pitcher on his baseball team. Both of his parents were died when he was young and he is living with his brother, eventually some coaches from other teams think he isn’t within the age limit to play and he can’t find his birth certificate to prove his age so he isn’t allowed to pitch. He has to try to find his birth certificate and has to try to get by without pitching.

James McBride is the son of Ruth McBride, and he tells the story of how he struggled to find out his racial identity through his Mom who wouldn’t tell him. James is a 15 year old boy and I’d say that his health is going pretty bad since he smokes and drinks. James was born in Brooklyn, New York to Dennis and Ruth McBride, his father deceased before he was born. His mother later married a man names Hunter Jordan and they added 4 for kids to the 8 she already had.
At one of Michael 's many missions, he was walking down an empty street and saw what looked like two cars which were black and had smoked out windows. Despite critics’ attacks on Chris McCandless as a commendable person, Chris McCandless is an admirable figure to look up to as he shows that taking risks can be beneficial. During McCandless’s trip, he meets with a wide variety of people he get well along with. He has a great time during his adventure and gains a lot of experiences even though he is living a simple life where he doesn’t live with a vast amount of wealth. Kayt Sukel of Fox News quotes, “...helping individuals gain the priceless experience they need to make smarter, better decisions. And within these risks are the very kind of opportunities that can, ultimately, make us happier, healthier, and more successful in reaching our long-term goals… ”
As a great author, Himes effectively identify the racism and racial power in wartime Los Angeles and applies metaphors and characterization to reveal a reality that the white group uses the power to discriminate, segregate, and oppress minorities in order to limit their rights and deprive them of their opportunities to move upward. Bob’s reaction to inequalities and oppression reflects African Americans’ emotional plight when living in the white world. Finally, many minorities like Bob are forced to join the army to serve the country that makes them experience racism. However, their fights, struggles, and achievements will be a prelude to the future Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and ’60s for people of color in the U.S.
Josh mentioned to MIchael in the text “‘So, been doing any target practice lately?’” Josh is trying to get on Michaels nerves and is trying to get Michael to say it was him who did it. This makes Josh important because it makes Michael frustrated and makes him show his feelings. Also Josh mentioned this to Michael twice which shows that he thinks it was his brother. Lastly, The day that the cops came back to Michaels house because they think it might be him but they don't say anything Michael is really nervous.
As a result, Michael has found an opportunity to start his life afresh. This is shown when he’s lying sick on the bathroom floor of the motel vomiting food and fighting a dark force fighting its way up his chest through his throat. Specifically, this scene is demonstrating Michael’s regeneration to a new life; he has both mentally and physically cleared his life from the past. He says, “It wasn’t comfort, and it wasn’t absolution; nothing like that. It was just being present, being stripped of all pretences.
