D-day started on june 6 in 1944 and that was the day the invasion started for fighting the Germans for the Jews sake and there freedom and it represented the battle of Normandy. The day was famous because it was the day the real war started happening and people trying to free the Jews from Hitler’s power over everyone and everything. The “D” in D-Day is that it stands for “designated day.”

Former President of the United States of America, Ronald Reagan in his address at Arlington National Cemetery on Veterans Day 1985 testifies his views and respect for the Veterans who have served to protect the United States. Reagan’s aspiration in his address is to convey the standard that Veterans deserve. Through the speech, Reagan embraces a solemn tone to reveal that though he holds a high position his nobility is to be put aside to amplify the sacrifices the Veterans have made for the country and its population. Reagan reveals through his address at the Arlington Cemetery that those who served for the freedom of the United States deserve respect at all times, not just on one day of the year.

“We Shall Overcome” -- LBJ’s Speech Analysis Lyndon B. Johnson, in his persuasive congressional speech, “We Shall Overcome”, which took place in Washington D.C on March 15th, 1965, asserted that the voting rights should also apply to African-American citizens. Mr. Johnson used a variety of rhetorical devices, such as climax, synecdoche, personification, ethos, logos, etc, in order to develop the art of his effective speech. On the purpose of persuading and convincing the congress to pass the Voting Rights Act, Johnson gave this speech during the meeting of congress on March 1965. His speech brought audience a mood of peace, at the meantime, created an ambience of equanimity, by using a formal, calm and confident tone as well as an appropriate diction. 50 years before, the Bloody Sunday Massacre took place in Selma in 1965, the state troopers attacked 525 civil rights demonstrators.

Like many of you, I had the unfortunate experience of watching a video of Frederick Stanley Jones delivering a speech on Memorial Day filled with hate-filled rhetoric. After carefully rewatching and reflecting on Stan Jones' troubling words and many people asking me my thoughts, I feel compelled to respond and hope someone can share my message with him. On a day meant to honor and remember the brave men and women who have selflessly served our great nation, many veterans, elected officials, and members of the public were presented with a speech that, instead of uniting us in gratitude and reverence, had the opposite effect.
