Memorial Day is an American holiday that takes place on the last monday of May. It honors the men and women who died when they were serving for the U.S. military. On May 5, 1868 (three days after the Civil War ended), “Decoration Day” was established by the Grand Army of the Republic. This day was dedicated to commemorating the war dead by decorating graves with flowers. General John Logan decided that this day should be celebrated on May 30th because on this date, flowers would be blooming all over the country. At the first national celebration at Arlington National Cemetery, about 5,000 people decorated the graves of more than 20,000 soldiers. In 1873, New York made Memorial Day a legal holiday. Cinco de Mayo, which translates to the fifth of May, is a celebration to commemorate Mexico's triumph over the French in "La batalla de Puebla." The Mexican army prevailed as the underdog, being outnumbered by the stronger and well equipped French forces. Mexicans stood their ground and claimed victory on May 5th, 1862. This is why Mexicans in both Mexico and the U.S celebrate this historic victory.
I believe he deserves this holiday for many reason. First, he was brave, his braveness caused the rest of the army to stand with him. Second, Thomas was considered to be a war hero. Lastly, he was one of the most famous Confederate Generals. These are just some of the reasons I think Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson deserves his own holiday.

A memorial day for me was one Friday night at a dance at Flandreau Indian Boarding School in South Dakota. I went to this Boarding School, not knowing what to expect. My father had gone to this same Boarding School many years before I had. He graduated from there and I was hoping to do the same. Me and my very good friend of mine, we had the crazy idea to go to the school together to escape the realities of our home town.
We celebrate Veterans Day every year on November 11th to honor the men and women who served and is still serving our wonderful country. We shouldn’t honor a veteran just once a year but everyday because they are protecting us everyday. When we say the pledge in the mornings we should be thinking about our veterans and what they did for us. Many veterans we get to still celebrate with and some were not so lucky and didn’t make it back home to their loved ones.
It commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican war. Cinco de Mayo has been celebrated across the United States and Mexico, but more in the United States with the traditions of parades, mariachi music performers and street festivals. On the other hand, Cinco de Mayo has come to symbolize a day of cultural pride for people of Mexican descent in the United States and beyond. The Mexican in California are said to be the first to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. It is also believed that they celebrated with other Latin Americans since they all spoke Spanish.

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Laying the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is not only a tremendous honor for any American, it would be a special, once in a lifetime experience for me personally. With being an American comes expectations; patriotism is probably the highest. I see no better example of patriotism and honor in our amazing country than the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This memorial not only stands as a reminder and recognition of all those brave souls lost defending our freedom, it shows the support, honor, and respect that we hold for our arm forces; especially those who went MIA.
Veterans day was originally called Armistice day. It got that name at the end of World War One. But the name changed to Veterans day some time after World War Two, to honor veterans from both wars. Every year, we celebrate Veterans day.
According to president obama, all countries should come together to honor our fellow veterans on Memorial Day. I strongly agree with this claim, regardless of what had happened 50 years ago between these countries; it is best to forgive and move on because each and every country knew what they were signing up for and the consequences that they would have to face. However, these countries are always at war, so coming together once a year to show our gratitude to the veterans that fought for their individual country is the best way to honor them. Thus , soldiers did what they thought was protecting their own country and risked their lives to protect their people, so each country can afford to sacrifice one day on their behalf. Memorial day is
President Ronald Reagan’s speech on the 40th anniversary of D-Day is one to remember. He spoke of the bravery and showed the veterans gratitude for their selflessness to fight. The speech takes place in Normandy, France at the D-Day memorial. These veterans fought to give freedom back to those it was taken from. President Ronald Reagan does make a convincing argument in his remarks of the D-Day address because he not only recognizes the American veterans but also every veteran from the other countries who came to help.
Throughout history, various ancient civilizations all over the globe have created traditions and customs that have been passed down through generation to generation. The idea of having these customs withstand the test of time is truly remarkable. A perfect example of the passing of tradition is the Mexican celebration of El Dia De Los Muertos. El Dia De Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a holiday that honors and celebrates loved ones of family who have passed away. Although it has its origins from the Aztec Empire, the holiday is widely celebrated in Latin America and even some parts of the United States.
