The Marine Corps Core Values are Honor, Courage, and Commitment these are the cells that make the marrow that's in the bones of the Marine Corps. They’re more than just a guideline on how to conduct yourself as a marine on and off duty, their a way of life. From day one of recruit training until our twentieth year in service we are expected to live by and constantly exercise these three values. With Honor you are meant to be loyal to the corps and all of its beliefs. With Courage you are expected to live up and beyond your potential to grow learn and test your limits. With Commitment your are expected to uphold Honor and Courage to the expectations of the Marine Corps, and to exhibit and share what we stand for against all odds. When you are honorable it's easy to …show more content…
One of them said that he was running at them fairing his weapon, another said they saw him planting an IED and when he saw them he started firing. After further investigation the truth 4 came out and they were all discharged from the marine corps. At the time I bet it seemed like a great idea due to the group's mindset. The whole endeavor could have been avoided if even one of them had the courage to say that this was wrong and they shouldn't cut corners. Courage is the capability to stand up to whatever is in your path and do the right thing without batting an eye to the fear of public opinion. Shure being courageous isn't going to be fighting bears, climbing mountains and being a hero. Courage can be the little things to like having the balls to admit your wrong, or swallowing your pride to apologize to someone when you know you're wrong. Like honor their are a multitude of different scenarios in which one can be courageous. It mainly depends on where your roots lie, maybe in your mind it takes a lot of courage to hold a chicken due to an acute fear of avian creatures. Telling all your twenty
The Warriors Ethos is a book written by Steven Pressfield, which was published in 2011. The book highlights a very rich history of warriors and their supporters alike. My goal with this paper is to draw some parallels between the examples in the book and what I took away as applicable to our lives as infantrymen In the United States Marine Corps. Chapter one is named “ Tough Mothers “. The chapter that stuck out to me most for giving perspective that I lacked prior to reading this book.
This motivation comes from their duty. The young men that fought in this war were motivated to high amounts of valor. The valor that these men in battle had was courage and bravery. These men were motivated from their duty to the Marine Corps.
In all of the books/movies that we have watched I noticed that someone in the story had courage. For some things like going up to the Radley house takes a lot of courage or leaving the reservation to go to an all white school. “ I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not who does not feel afraid, but who conquers that fear” Said Nelson Mandela In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian Junior shows courage when he tells his parents that he wants to go to a different school which means that he’d have to leave the reservation.
Getting the job done at all costs. Being able to balance life and all its challenges, and still continue to go on. When all else fails our ethics are what drives us, not just as Marines, but as people as well. This book has been an inspiration to all services.
Without the values that the Marine Corps has instilled in us we would be nothing more than an armed group of chaotic warriors, with our own thoughts on what is considered moral or immoral. To be a part of a successful team, all members must be led by common values. In the Marine Corps we have had the values of Honor, Courage and Commitment as a focal point of our training. “From our earliest days as Marines, we are taught that the Marine Corps is a special team -- a family. Just as the family should play a major role in the upbringing of children, the Marine Corps embraces this noble responsibility in the "upbringing" of Marines in the Marine family”,(MCRP 6-11B W/CH1 Pg.ix).Honor, Courage and Commitment guide us into making the correct decision
T. S. Eliot, a publisher and playwright, has said, “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” Courage has many ways of presenting itself to people. Whether it is through physical ways or moral ways depends on the situation. Most people see courage as physical, like a small dog saving a helpless kitten from a fire or a man jumping in front of a bullet for a loved one or complete stranger. There is also the moral side of courage.
What is the most courageous thing you've done? Maybe it was standing up to a bully or saving someone from a dangerous situation where you could have been hurt. For most people, these are the limits to their courage. But for some, their courage may go farther. In most media, the main character's courage is what gets them to be a hero.
The Marine Corps values rank structure and respect to that rank structure even if you are completely in the right to correct or call out a higher rank on something they did wrong it is demanded of you to use the upmost possible tact and respect. From Private to Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps this applies. One saying I learned that comes to mind, in regard to respecting rank structure, “if you respect the man you respect the rank.” I do my best to live by this in the Marine Corps. I believe that myself and for the most part everyone at every rank can have trouble at times remembering our place in the Corps.
Breaking The Chains Of Conformity With Courage Courage is similar to being the ripened fruit on a barren tree, it gives life and color to a dull exterior. The courage that others display gives our nation determination for another day. Courage is the ability to prevail through hardships, to reveal your true inner nature, and to stand up for what you believe, when the rest of the world falls as a slave to conformity. Hardships are lurking around every corner of our life ready to immerse whenever we least expect them.
Now also for accountability in the Marine Corps is one of the highest things that are always being hit on. So in other words, being accountable may mean for you to be at a certain place at whatever time was given for you to be there. Next, another reason why accountability is important is because if you don’t keep track of your gear and you’re missing something when the time comes and you need that piece of gear that you were missing then you would be in a lot of trouble. All together being accountable is; well to the Marine Corps being called mission ready. That is why accountability in the Marine Corps is very or in greater words beyond important.
Nesting the Mission & Vision The ability for the Marine Corps to accomplish its mission is predicated on subordinate organizations (commands) establishing and executing a mission that syncs with the greater whole. An implied task from the above Marine Corps mission statement, is to take young civilians from innumerable cultural and education backgrounds and develop them into a person of character that is capable of demonstrating initiative and rational thought in the most stressful situation known to man - War. In addition to providing basic level job skills to entry-level Marines, our organization must enhance the personal development of these future warfighters who will be called upon to make difficult decisions in extreme situations. Courage is not something easily won with guns or money. It takes motivation and determination to have courage. It’s something that compelles one to go forth even if forward is two steps
Becoming a soldier, specifically a marine, takes serious mental and physical strength. Those entering need to be completely sure that this is what they want. In the moment it may seem like the best choice, but turns out to have been the worst decision. It takes true commitment to be able to endure the intense trainings they go through. True commitment to be able to earn the title Marine.
When a soldier and leader applies integrity into their day to day operation, they trust each other to do the right thing at all times. Honor plays also plays a major part in a soldier’s and leader’s work environment as well, that is just living up to the Army Values. Once they develop that habit they’re showing that they are honorable. An individual shows selfless service simply by put others before yourself. This is the mindset one must have especially on the battle field, because in that situation you are not fighting for yourself, you are fighting for the man or woman to the left or right of you so that they can make it home to their loved ones.
I miss the Marine Corps and want to go back. While living my everyday life on Camp Pendleton, there was never a dull moment. I always had plans or always had work. A lot of times I would go into work at seven in the morning and wouldn’t leave until ten at night. There were instances where I worked twenty-four hours.
