Love At First Pain In Romeo And Juliet's Love

Love at first sight is impossible because love only comes AFTER a couple knows each other for exactly who and what each other is. For example, Romeo swears to Benvolio and Friar Lawrence that he loves Rosaline, which he proves by describing her physical beauty. However, once he sees Juliet, he forgets that he ever knew Rosalline. He swears that he only loves Juliet, and that their love is real because she loves him back. How can either love the other when they know nothing about each other except what he/she looks like and how well he/she kisses?

Famously known as the star-crossed lovers from rival households, Romeo and Juliet depicts William Shakespeare’s definition of a tragedy a play ending with the protagonists’ death. However, they are also notable for their impulsive decisions which eventually leading to their suicide. For example, Romeo falling in love with Juliet within minutes of seeing her at the Capulet’s party, “For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night.” (I, v, 51) as he was heartbroken over Rosaline earlier that day. Yet, Romeo and Juliet are not to blame for their downfall.

Romeo and Juliet is a classic example of a tragedy. In this play, two lovers are being kept apart because of a feud between their fathers, LC and LM. In this play, LC goes from a loving caring father to possessive and controlling eventually changing to sad and solemn after the death of his daughter. LC is an example of becoming the victim of his behaviour.

Is love stronger than hate or is hate stronger than love in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet? My claim is that love is Stronger than hate. In this essay I will explain why love is stronger than hate and these are some of the reasons why. Even though there is much hate in Romeo and Juliet love still shines through and cancels out the hate.

At only age thirteen, couples can not know what true love feels like, especially when they have only known eachother for a couple days. Throughout the play Romeo and Juliet, the so called “star-crossed lovers’” act foolish, rushing into a marriage and not thinking about the possible consequences that might happen to such a controversial relationship because of their feuding families. Ultimately, the rash decisions lead to the deaths of not only Romeo and Juliet, but along with Paris and Mercutio. Romeo and Juliet's’ rashness to get married and kill themselves along with Friar Lawrence’s hastiness to marry the lovers despite his beliefs, make a dangerous potion, and fail to deliver the letter to Romeo, all play a major role in the tragedy.

Love at first sight, a concept overused in every romantic comedy. It is the instant connection between two soulmates. It is the idealistic perfect love. This phenomenon of true love has been around since the Elizabethan Era, preserved in the writings by some of the greatest poets of all time. “Sonnet 116” written by Shakespeare and “A Valediction; Forbidding Mourning” by John Donne both strive to express their version of Neoplatonic love (an immaculate love).
