Society Needs Rules with Consequences Imagine a world without rules and consequences. Society would likely devolve into chaos and anarchy. Laws are important because they help keep our society safe and tell us what we can and cannot do. If society had no laws, people would be able to do whatever they wanted, and there would not be punishments for their actions. This could lead to a lot of crime and violence, as people would not have to worry about being charged or going to jail. Society needs rules and consequences to maintain order and ensure the safety and well-being of its members. You can see this principle in the Lord of the Flies, Romeo and Juliet and the necessity of traffic laws. The Lord of the Flies by William Golding shows what chaos …show more content…
This instinct to create order was to keep everyone safe. The character Jack tries very hard to maintain order by creating rules and consequences, saying “I agree with Ralph. We’ve got to have rules and obey them. After all, we’re not savages. We’re English, and the English are best at everything. So we’ve got to do the right things.” (Golding 42). Ralph was the leader of the entire group and Jack was the leader of the hunters. One rule that Ralph came up with is that in the assemblies, only the person holding the conch can speak so that only one person can speak at a time, and no one is arguing or speaking over each other. In addition to this, as the novel develops, the lack of rules and consequences breaks the group into two. This leads to the rise of the character Jack and his tribe, who put their desires and violence over the well-being of the group. This is shown when Jack's tribe steals Piggy's glasses so that they can have fire and they were not thinking about Piggy. They also started breaking the rule about the conch shell. The boys broke the rules, and there were no consequences for them. This ultimately resulted in the destruction of
At the end of the book, Jack has become a beast at heart who lusts for blood and blood alone. Jack and Ralph get into an argument for the right to use Piggy's glasses to cook the meat that they hunt. Jack starts to get violent and they start fighting each other for the glasses. In an act of trying to stop the fight, piggy grabs the conch shell to get the attention of everyone and tell them to stop fighting. Soon after the hunters notice Piggy, they push a boulder off a mountain to kill piggy.
After ralph and piggy journey to the other tribe they are met by hostile savages who wouldn't listen to reason. “ Jack backed against the tribe and they were a solid mass of menace. ”(pg.180). The author shows how jack now has complete control of the boys and how they are backing him up and wont go with the side of reason. At this point in the book Jacks power is at its height and he has made all the boys sever their own ties to being civilized.”
Unit 1-1: Why We Need Laws (Konstantin Degtyarev) Law are rules for everyone to follow, laws are intended to establish freedoms, responsibilities, democratic principles and respect towards others and the public equipment. A public law is between an individual or a group of individuals and the society; whereas private law is between an individual/s and other individual/s. A public law helps establish rules between people and their community, whilst private law establishes rules between people, hence the name private.
Does one always have repercussions for ones actions? In my personal opinion General Zarroff can best answer that question. Richard Connell wrote Lord of the Flies , and in it he bluntly shows that there are always repercussions for our actions by Rainsford killing General Zarroff. Mr. Connell portrays General Zarroff to be a man of violence and of action. General Zaroff likes to hunt.
Ralph is one of the oldest of the group and he acts as the initial leader figure by organizing the boys into some semblance of society. Ralph's authority is represented through the conch shell and fire. The conch was the only remnant of civilized society on the island through its smallscale embodiment of democracy, as set in place by Ralph; “I'll give the conch to the next person to speak. He can hold it when he's speaking” (Golding 45). It was used to call meetings, rally all of the plane survivors together, and act as a physical embodiment of power on the island causing it to instantly become the heart of Ralph’s order system.
We've got to have rules and obey them. After all, we're not savages.” (Golding 42). This comment by Jack was one of the most logical ones he made. Ralph, chosen as the leader by the boys, upsets Jack.
Ralph is the elected leader of the group, but Jack is jealous of that and needs to show his power over Ralph. Jack proves that he is abusing his power and is in search of civilization. Jack believes that hunting for food will get them closer to civilization than building a
In,” by David Burberry, it is shown that if someone is seen as a reliable leader, people will follow behind, feel safe, and listen to the instructions given. Conformity is beneficial to individuals and their communities because, without order and rules, everyone loses all sense of civilization. Rules are important to make sure that everyone feels safe and under control. At the beginning of Lord of the Flies, all of the boys decided on rules to help maintain order and structure. They all elect Ralph to be their leader, he holds assemblies to assign the boys jobs.
After assembling everyone, Ralph stands on a rock and looks at the group of survivors " 'Shut up, ' commanded Ralph. He lifted the conch. 'Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things. '" (22) As a result of Ralphs determination, he was voted to be a leader.
In the US government it shows that with order and laws there is peace but if there was no laws or orders it would be chaotic like in Lord of the Flies where they were unorganized and everyone was allowed to do what they wanted .Like in page 54 in Lord of the Flies it states “And i work all
Why do we have laws and rules? The reason we have laws and rules is to protect us and keep us safe from danger. Imagine a world where there are no laws and rules. Imagine living in a world where everyone had the freedom to do
The laws stand as a basic understanding of right from wrong and allowed civilizations to keep the most peace among their people as they
Why a Social Order is Important A social order is a very important part of our world's society. Without any social order there would be no rules or laws. People would run rampant and there would be no punishment crimes one commits. William Golding's story Lord of the Flies conveys this idea; it shows that as time passed on the island the boys lost their sense of social responsibility and fell away from the rules of society.
magine a world without laws, Imagine people being able to commit crimes without anything being done, Imagine how all this important information about laws and why we have them would be nothing in the world today. Crimes are committed on a daily basis, but the law does everything to help those people who are in danger of committing those crimes by stopping them before it’s too late. sometimes the crimes are committed before the law can get to them so enforcement takes the job of taking their freedom away for them. Law Enforcement is important because without it everyone would be afraid of life. Everyone needs it for as long as Humanity exists because as humans people create mistakes that can severely harm and hurt others.
Importance of Rules In a society or community, there are rules. Rules are regulations that the people under a government need to follow. Rules are important as families and citizens have to live their lives in a happy but safe state. Some aspects of why rules are important are: to maintain civil behaviour, be organised, more harmony in the community.
