Leadership: Personal Leadership Vison

Leader is a terminology that is often misuse or misinterpreted, especially in the business world. Often, managers and CEO believe they possess great leadership skills based solely on a few achievements and self-justification. Sometimes they develop a mythical misconception relatives to if their organization is financially prolific, they assume that it is because of their leadership skills, when in reality it may uncorrelated or is a contributing factor slowing the development of this particular organization. Yet, number of companies and employees continue to suffer from the poor leadership styles of this so-called great managers, meanwhile leadership consists of an array of attributes that one must possess to lead, with the ability to innovate, empower others, with an open-mind and much more.

Abstract The aim of this paper is to study how to mitigate and avoid the perils of hubristic leadership in an organization by using risk management concept. The objective of this study is to identify the main factors that influence the hubris leadership and how the perils of hubris leadership might be mitigate and avoid by using risk management concept. Finally, the main factors that influence the hubris leadership is such like excessive self-confidence, self-importance, egotism, an incentive and abrasive, aloofness or arrogance, betrayal of personal trust and overdependence on a mentor and risk control has been used to minimizing the risk of the loss in hubris leadership by using techniques of risk avoidance and risk reduction. The concepts advanced, and implications discussed, provide an insight into the role of leader in reducing hubris and this paper suggest that future research should attempt to examine other factors that may influence the hubris leadership.

In today’s workplace, organisations frequently include employees coming from different backgrounds, varied range of competencies and diversified languages, are required to focus on tasks accomplishments while also addressing the employee’s expectations through engagement activities so as to ensure effectiveness in being a contributing member of the organisation. Organisational leaders are regarded as coaches who will assist them in understanding and ultimately perform their task effectively (Hamlin 2002). In developing this paper on leadership, I examined what was most important to me as a leader. Leadership Philosophy What is Leadership? Leadership is not a common concept to consider on your own. You’re taught at a young age that you follow someone until a task is presented to you in which those who have led feel you’re prepared to take the next step, at which time you sink or swim. Leadership to me is so much more than being tasked with getting your group from point A to point B. It involves understanding, sympathy, courage, and a willingness to go outside the typical roles that have been set forth before us and shatter it to model the complex situations that we are faced with on a regular basis.

Good leadership quality in the management of people and resources is of high priority in every sphere of life. A clear and concise definition of leadership, according to Ravindranath S. (2016), defined leadership as the ability to motivate people to achieve common goals and to inspire regular human beings to achieve extraordinary success. Based on this definition a leader can be likened to someone who brings out the best in people that they themselves never knew was in them. A Leadership position is one that is placed on a high pedestal since its occupants are looked up to for directions and counsel from people. We see the effect of leadership in our society today, be it negative or positive, the post-effect of a leader missing or making the mark can make or break an organization or even a nation at large.

Individual Reflective Paper Introduction Leadership, a controversial concept, has been studied for centuries. Scholars who study leadership have argued with the insight of leadership for many decades and finally promote a wide range of understandings of it. This course “values and leadership” introduces the basic principles and concepts about leadership, and provides us with some conceptual knowledge and practical approaches to be an outstanding leaders. I chose to take this course because I am interested in the topic about leadership.

In any organization, there are people that are hired to make the crucial decisions that will define how well a company functions, and they are known as leaders. The characteristic of a good leader is someone who has the drive, determination, and ambition to push a company forward in the future. Success and longevity of any company is determined by the leadership that is in control of the destiny of a company (Frances Hesselbein Leadership Institute, Pg. 65, 2013). The characteristic of a leader is also determined by their leadership style. Leadership style is how a leader implements plans, provides direction to the staff and for the company, and the drive in motivating people to be the best in their craft.

Leadership: Definition Leadership is the process of influencing the motive of the employees and so directing, guiding them to the proper completion of the short-term goals and the mission, vision of the firm. Leadership referring to achieve a specific set of goals of the business enterprise by minimizing risk and more advantage of opportunities is also called Entrepreneurial Leadership (Rao, 2015). Today leadership is such an iterative process when the leaders should have a variety of qualities and expertise in different area of management. Here, different theories will be explained which can clearly identify the scope, the responsibilities and the area of expertise required to be successful leader.

If the behavior theory can identify the key determinants of leadership, people can actually train to become a leader. This is the premise of the management development plan. Over the last two weeks I have spent 13.5 hours with Kyle Wilcox and 7.25 hours with Doris Rindels; for a total of 22.75 hours with Kyle and 8.25 with Doris. During this time, I have had the opportunity to shadow Doris and Kyle during several leadership meetings regarding the integration strategy for Grinnell Regional Medical Center and UnityPoint Health. The organization is actively working on the strategic plans for rolling out various changes within the organization as we move from being a private entity to part of a larger organization. I have also been assigned to take the lead on the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) integration that includes working with the hospital, affiliated clinics, and the skilled nursing facilities in the area to improve the quality of care that the patients in the community receive. I am very excited about this opportunity to be able to utilize the leadership skills that I have learned from this class and my prior classes as well as the implementation strategies that I have learned.
