How did late medieval governments shape life in positive and in negative ways? The government shaped life in a positive way by protecting the kingdom from invaders and keeping people safe. The monarchs had armies and lots of knight at their disposal. The knights had a code of honor so they were nice to women and others. The knights had a code they lived by. Honor, bravery, chivalry, and courtesy. This code was called knightly chivalry. The monarchy also brought the artisan class and changed the attitude toward the church and religion. The negative is how the peasants and serfs were treated. They were poor and hungry working all the time to feed the monarch. They were sick and had no help. The monarch also looked down on women in general.
Chivalry was a code where knights would vow to do no wrong, be loyal to the King, to give mercy to those who ask for it, and to be courteous and helpful to women (Doc E). Knights beliefs were also very religion centered, as shown in The Son of Roland “God, I acknowledge my guilt and I beg for Thy mercy for all the sins, greater and lesser, which I have committed from the hour my birth until this day … Angels descend out of heaven and come to him” (Doc
And knights had a code called, Chivalry. If a knight had fallen of their horse in a battle, the knight would be more vulnerable than a samurai because the knight had more armour. The social order in feudal Samurai ranked higher than the Knights. For both samurais and knights, honor was important.
Alex Bryant 12 January 2023 APWH Mr. Stevens The Development of Monarchical Control: Early Modern Era During the feudal post-classical era, peasants resided on ‘common land’ owned by higher, noble classes. Due to their needs being met, and ignorance of the other, better ways, they could live their lives, they were content with these feudal common land beliefs.
These relationships were called feudalism (Doc. 1). Feudalism and the Church greatly contributed to the social, economic, and political life in Europe in the Middle Ages. “Feudalism was a political, economic, and social system which included kings, nobles, knights, and serfs (Doc. 1).” Every position or status had a job that benefitted another ranking (Doc. 1). For example, a king grants land to nobles, nobles granted land to knights, and knights grant land to serfs (Doc. 1).
The Industrial Revolution was overall a negative thing because if forced childhood labor, caused the environment to fail, and it brought many negative effects onto the people. The Industrial Revolution brought a big change upon the society, one example is childhood labor. Children were forced to work and were often severely injured because of the factory work they were assigned to do. In Document 10 it speaks about how severe these injures can get.
Think of what people sacrificed for us to have computers, cellphones, microwaves, and electrical power to use on a daily basis. During the Industrial Revolution, which was between the late 18th and 20th centuries, people started to invent new technologies that made products quickly and more efficiently. However, children were being exploited by their bosses, England also was forbidding colonies to develop any domestic industries, and people didn’t live in sanitized areas. I believe that the Industrial Revolution had a negative effect for people living in England in that time period.
Introduction From 700 A.D to 1400 A.D, feudalism was the way society was ruled. God and the king had all the power during the Middle Ages. Peasants and serfs were the lowest class. Your family history and wealth determined your class level.
The most important principles of the code of chivalry governed the rules of knightly conduct in matters such as loyalty to the king, honor, courage, as well as respect for women, and good manners (Cartwright). Some of the
Chivalry as a concept that has baffled countless medieval historians throughout the years. Chivalry was supposedly a code that knights and nobles lived their lives by. However, similarly to other social structures that were in place in the past historians have debated over the extent to which people lived according to chivalric principles. Sir Walter Scott believed chivalry was meant as a code which knights could aspire to, but not one that was carried out in the real world. This conclusion gives a clear picture of chivalry.
The English government could do little to stop the colonies founding in the 17th century; benign neglect is the best description of their tolerance without supporting the colonies. They tried to coordinate the founding of colonies, collect taxes, and make other benefits from the colonists work. Affecting the English government, most of the New England colonies were formed without their approval. They were begrudgingly recognized eventually; in the rule of Charles the Second, in the late 17th century, that benign neglect ended. He immediately stopped enduring the colonies prominent disregard for English policy, revoking charters and political status.
The culture of only the king speaking his opinion shifted so all people seated at the table had equal say in matters. Because of Arthur’s method of governing, the knights were able to speak of their thoughts and conclusively feel their significance in taking part of their role in society. As was previously stated, the knights’ sentiment of one another was how the civil nation of Britain formed. Dignity of one’s position in the social structure and recognition of the others’ brought the empire to unity.
A social code called chivalry was created for knights in medieval Europe, stressing ideas such as courage, loyalty, and devotion which is seen as a good thing. The ideal knight was loyal, brave courageous, and protected the weak and poor, but most knights failed to do this, treating the lower classes brutally (Doc 5). Gothic style architecture could also be considered part of the Golden Age because of its extravagance. Unfortunately, large churches called Cathedrals were built in the style using the church's dirty money; it showed off the church’s wealth (Doc 9). The time period could be called Golden since older knowledge was preserved and influenced the future.
Respect (A Discussion on Chivalry used in The Green Knight and Morte D’Arthur.) Chivalry is code of conduct used by knights, and heroes of the past. “Chivalry, the order of knighthood and, especially, the code of knightly behavior that was a feature of the High and later Middle Ages in western Europe”(Funk). Along with this idea of Chivalry, Feudalism was used in Europe as well. Feudalism is the system of both government and land ownership, where in exchange for a nobleman 's oath of loyalty, a king would grant them land.
Chivalry is defined as the medieval knightly system with its religious, moral, and social code. The tale of Morte d’Arthur shows the Code of Chivalry when the Knights of the Round Table display courage or bravery, wisdom of morals, and loyalty to their king. To begin with, the knights in Morte d’Arthur present a courageous look in multiple aspects of the story to prove they abide by the Code of Chivalry. These knights were
