In the play Macbeth which was written by William Shakespeare, it starts off with three witches telling a General whose name is Macbeth a prophecy. They give him a prophecy about him being king, Macbeth’s wife Lady Macbeth manipulates Macbeth. Macbeth ends up killing the king and the king's sons runaway. Macbeth becomes king and kills more people out of fear that they will take the throne. The people of Scotland are suffering so a character named Macduff goes and gets Duncan's heir Malcolm. Malcolm then overthrows Macbeth and becomes king. Lady Macbeth is strong, greedy, and ruthless. First, Lady Macbeth is ruthless because she talks about how she would kill her baby while smiling at her if she said she was going to kill the baby. Next, “I have given suck, and know how tender 'tis to love the babe that milks me. I would, while it was smiling in my face, have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums and dashed the brains out had I so sworn as you have done to this (Shakespeare 1.7.54-59a)”. Finally, She is talking about how she has nursed a baby before and she knows how it feels to love the baby and she would pull her nipple out of it’s mouth while it smiled at her and smash it’s brains in if she said she was going to do that. First, Lady Macbeth is ruthless and quickly comes up with a plan to kill the king even though he is a kind person to her and gives her gifts and her husband honorable titles. Next, Lady Macbeth upon hearing about the witches prophecy she quickly decides that her husband will be king and makes a plan on how they will get away with killing him and also framing other people who are innocent. The process of this plan was for Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth to drug everyone, then for Macbeth to go and kill King Duncan. When The deed was done there was regret and guilt behind it. When she finds out he is hesitant, she starts manipulating him into getting her way by telling him, “When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would Be so much more the man”(I.VII.55-56). This quote shows the readers how she believes she needs to do whatever it takes to get the power no matter how bad it is by using phrases like “Be so much more than a man” and “Be more than what you are”. Lady Macbeth begins as a evil woman who convinces her innocent husband to kill Duncan to gain the power of kingdom. But as the play progresses she becomes haunted by her actions and kills herself. Her innocent husband becomes corrupt with power and evil and destroys all in his path. Even though Lady Macbeth was the one who made her husband kill in the beginning, Macbeth is the character powering the evil.
