La Cathedrale Notre Dame is a church in Paris built during the Gothic period. It was completed in 1335 AD to replace a sixth century basilica. The cathedral spans 427 feet by 157 feet. Notre-Dame Cathedral follows a symmetrical floor plan, with the apse, choir and nave aligned on the line of symmetry. A double ambulatory surrounds the apse and the nave is flanked by double aisles and square chapels. The central spire was added by Violet le Duc during restoration in the 19th century. The cathedral is 110 feet tall from crown to its vaults. Two early Gothic towers were built from 1210-1250 AD each 223 feet high. The west façade also consists of three levels surmounted by a row of twenty eight kings from the Old Testament. While the east façade features large clerestory windows held by single-arch flying buttresses.
Basic cathedral architecture dictates a building of longitudinal space with three or more parallel structures of which the central structure rises above the other two and is lit by windows on both sides on the upper part. As Gothic architecture transitioned from Romanesque architecture, the gathering space unified into a wholesome space

This in turn led to a widely accepted belief of the cathedral being a universal collective work of art. Hence this leads us to analyze the choreography of ideas embodied through the cathedral. As the Notre-Dame is built in the transitional period from Romanesque to Gothic, the west portals of the Notre-Dame follow traditional Romanesque layout showing the Last Judgment, where good and evil stood apart implying the condition for man to step into a holy space. The theme of divine authority intertwined with royalty is bold in Notre-Dame, where one can see the ancestral line of French kings next to the Old Testament Kings on the gallery above the

The north side of the Tower was designed with huge brass door depicted from the book of Genesis, starting with the creation until the first perfect couple were banished from the Garden of Eden. The masterpiece of the iron gates towards the tower was created with wings and exotic zoomorphic pieces that included wings and wing-like art forms. The Tower also has a sundial fixated on it, made from bronze and molded into a snake. As the sun moves from east to west it presents time on the 12 zodiac symbols used to mark the hour. The tower was designed at to be capture by the pond in it’s entirely through its reflection.
Every color had an emotional connection, as did the size and design of architecture. Buildings were reaching out of Romanesque and into Gothic style, going from compartmentalized and dark, to letting in light and being open. The first example of this is the Rayonnet style, which emphasized the letting of light, and means, “to shine.” The open corridor was a sense of harmony, and the invention of the flying buttress allowed the Chartres Cathedral to have the open flowing and harmonious design it has today. The flying buttress was a support piece that kept the architecture from falling inward due to lateral thrust from the wall.
“You can't judge an album by a single song; it's like judging a book by only reading a single chapter” Trevor Rabin. Although the short stories Cathedral and A Rose for Emily have completely different plots, they both have morals that are described in this quote. Cathedral follows around a blind man named Robert visiting an old friend and her husband, who does not care for the Robert. A Rose for Emily is about Emily, a woman who is perceived as a local oddity but soon the townspeople realize she is not just odd, but also a little bit crazy. Both Emily from the short story, A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, and Robert from Cathedral by Raymond Carver, portray characters that become of the targets of premature assumptions, but
From 500 to 1500 AD Europe was not in a dark age, because of their advances with the Gothic Cathedrals, their conquests in the Crusades, and their organization within their Government. During 1163 through 1345 Europe had many architectural advancements, such as the Gothic Cathedral and the Notre Dame. According to the Gothic Cathedral document in Universities and Cathedrals it states,”Common features of gothic cathedrals included architectural innovations, including: large columns, high ceilings with ribbed vaults, flying buttresses, and large stained glass windows.” This quote supports that Europe was not in a dark age because it shows how many architectural innovations were made during this time period.

Introduction Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica is one of the most famous antique architecture works in Vietnam that were built during the time of French colonisation, that is nowadays a religious venue as well as a tourist attraction. It is special not only because of its long-lasting Romanesque-Gothic beauty that pops up in the middle of a busy boulevard in Ho Chi Minh City, but also because it has been standing for 135 years, witnessing the ups and downs in the history of Vietnam; how French colonialists left, how Chinese annexationists came, and how Vietnamese people themselves fight against each other. Moreover, it was one of the victims in World War II, which caused the 59 windows and pieces of shingles to break. Though I am not a Catholic, I am still attracted to its beauty.
The building was 200 ft tall, and the façade was excessively ornamented in a beautiful way, and in a mixture of different styles including Gothic, Baroque, Churrigueresque to illustrate the appearance of a Spanish Colonial church. The facade was made of stone, and it did not include usual ornamentation, but sculpted historical figures of remarkable and significant people mostly were
Critical analysis of the Pantheon. The pantheon is a nearly 2000-year-old roman temple that still inspires architects and artist alike. The structure was originally built in c. 27 BCE and dedicated by Marcus Agrippa. Comprised of a 142ft wide 142ft tall rotunda under a coffered concrete dome connected to a Greek style porch.
In “La Belle Dame Sans Merci” a knight has been put under the spell of some woman that he met in the forest. In “A Mother in a Refugee Camp” there is a mother who cares for her child. In “Remember” it is about the last wish of a dying lover. In these three poems they all represent love and they can all represent the illusion of love. But they are all very different when you look at the reasons of love and the reasons for the illusion of love.
The Pantheon was first built with a rectangular plan but when Hadrian came in 125AD and rebuilt it, he added a dome. Currently, the Pantheon is used as both a church and also a historical heritage site. On the other hand, the Brunelleschi 's Dome is part of the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, and it is one of the biggest churches in Florence which is in Italy (Mainstone, 1997). The construction of the church began in 1296
Debussy broke the mold so to speak in the 20th century of music by breaking away from the typical German style laid out by composers such as Beethoven as he often explored dreamy and distant sound worlds in an effort to stand out amongst his earlier peers of the classical period. He began to be drawn to the sounds of the pentatonic scales, whole tone scale, and sounds otherwise known in Asia as his music in comparison often contained a rather circular motion which broke away from the formers heroic cadential style of resolution. This breaks his music away as his was more of an ambient and distant much like the impressionist art movement happening at the same time being led by the likes of Monet and Van Gough. The Sunken Cathedral by Debussy exhibits many traits of the new impressionistic forum of 20th century composers as he exhibits many methods to place the listener into a dream-like state using melodic variation and connectivity amongst voice leading in order to achieve a watery type effect. This effect makes the listener feel as if they are floating along with the piece itself as he adds complexities to the music with the slow harmonic variation throughout the piece.
