As a 17-year-old she was pretty, a blonde with blue eyes, who loved animals and always flirted. She wanted to be veterinarian and was working at a clinic in St. Catharines, which was her home town. Paul and Karla were watching T.V. when this news came about. Karla was freaking out, but Paul disregarded that they will find them. In January 1993, Paul beat her so badly it sent her to the emergency room (Ramsland). Paul was charged with assault and Karla sought protection from her family. In February, DNA samples from the Scarborough victim’s rape kits matched Paul. Police came to Karla to talk about it and she gave in. Karla got an attorney and was soon in court, she presented herself as a young woman who was too scared to leave or stop her abusive husband. When asked to talk about the crimes, she left out Tammy and only talked about Mahaffy and French. Karla said she was a reluctant participate who comforted the girls in their last moments. Because Karla cooperated and plead guilty to manslaughter, she only got 12 years in prison. Then the videotapes resurfaced, they realized they made a mistake. It was clear that Karla participated in the assaults and the exhumation revealed Tammy’s real death. Although, charge already went through and the damage was done. Paul was sent to life in prison, while Karla only got 12 years in Ste-Anne-des-Plaines prison and was released on July 4, 2005, she was given a new name, Leanne Bordelais and lives in Guadelope with her second husband and 3

He later dumped her body by the banks of the Columbia River. There was a strange incident that occurred regarding the murder of Taunja Bennett. Laverne Pavlinac claimed that she and her boyfriend, John Sosnovske had committed the murder together.

Durousseau’s wife asked for police council on how to get a domestic violence restraining order after being assaulted by Durousseau. When Paul found out that Karla wasn't a virgin when they first had sex it made Paul extremely angry. Paul started raping again in December and by March of 1988 the police began looking for what they called the “Scarborough Rapist”. The investigation that they had didn't go anywhere even though there was a large amount of physical evidence and a sketch that wasn't shown to the public. Karla knew that Paul was raping and torturing these girl and there were claims from a victim that Karla was there when she was attacked and was recording it all but the claim was ignored.
