Heroism in our culture could be very misinterpreted. People tend to think that hero’s need to be perfect because they are role models, saviors, or peacemakers. An example of a hero for me is Josh Hamilton, an outfielder for the Texas Rangers. Josh Hamilton started out as a power hitting prospect for the Tampa Bay Rays but struggled with addictions to drugs. He spent a short stint for the Reds before the Texas Rangers picked him up. While his time in Texas, he became a superstar. The year 2009 was a breakout season for him. He won the homerun derby and set the record for most home runs ever in the competition. In 2010, he led the Rangers to the World Series for the first time and won an MVP by hitting over .350. The following year, Josh was
There's an exception; Ted Williams. He was great at baseball, but outside of that, he wasn’t the most cheerful person. Some things he did outside of baseball, was seen as heroic. Ted Williams wasn’t an ordinary man; he was a heroic man and baseball player. An example of Ted Williams’s heroism was in his athletic career.
The best examples of heroes may come from fictional stories but real life heroic traits often come from those fictional heroes. Some of these traits seem godlike but there are humans that hold heroic traits beyond what we can read about. Beowulf is a fictional character with superhuman strength that is fighting to save a group of people from multiple atrocious creatures. Harriet Tubman, on the other hand, is an African American slave who escaped from her master and ran an underground railroad to bring slaves to freedom. Although Beowulf is a fictional character and Harriet Tubman is not, they are both perceived as heroes that shared selflessness and leadership skills they used to accomplish their ultimate goals; saving peoples lives.
Mary kate Thurman Ms.Tollet English 10 Honors 6 March 2023 The Hero’s Journey of Chris Kyle Many people throughout history have shown impeccable characteristics of what it means to be a hero. With the copious amount of research obtained, Chris Kyle is a prime example of what being a hero should look like. He has faced and overcome many challenges in his life and has received plenty of recognition for his hard work. Through his perseverance, he was able to make a difference and help other people with their challenges and protect American citizens with his superlative shooting skills.
Undoubtedly, there are many types of different heroes that put themselves above others. A true hero will demonstrate selflessness when it is in need. For example, the Military risk their lives to not only protect our country and the civilians but also they fight for our rights so that we don’t have unfair restrictions. They give up their lives, family, and friends for the good of others, they stepped up when no-one else was willing to. Another example that is less thought of are people who raise charity or do volunteer.
Jesse Williams is someone I would consider to be a hero. Williams has many heroic qualities which include courage and persistence. To being with he shows courage by publicly speaking on the things he believes in. Whether he is talking about black equality or black women's empowerment it take some serious guts and determination to do so. This is an example of courage because it's not only hard to stand in front of thousands of people but it is scary, especially for people in today's society.
Modern Day Hero The word “hero” often makes us think of the people in the stories we read, movies we watch, and the people making the headlines in the newspaper. While this may hold some truth, these heroes often make us forget about the ones in our daily lives. These people show great moral and character when facing danger or problems.
Martin Luther King Jr. being successful Everyone has a different option on what a hero is or can be. To better understand what a heroic quality is, it may be easier to describe what a hero is not. Nearly every day on T.V. people talk of athletes and celebrities as being heroes, but are they? To put it mildly, they are not heroes at all.
When a person hears the word, “Hero,” somebody that has impacted the life of a person in any part of way or another comes to mind. Someone that has a special place in a person’s heart counts as a hero, not any ordinary person. An African American by the name of Rosa Parks has that special effect on a numberless amount of people. Rosa Parks stood up for separation on December 1, 1955, when she did not give up her seat on a city bus.
Heroes aren't what most people think they are. They aren't people who defeat monsters, or save the moon. Heroes are ordinary people who do more than save the moon, or defeat monster. They change the world, and make a difference. Just like Martin Luther King Jr. did, with his speech but, King Jr. isn't the only hero.
Dictionary.com defines a hero as "a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his large deeds and noble qualities. Dictionary.com has two major flaws in their definition: the fact that a hero must be male and one with distinguished abilities. In our generation, children our obsessed with the Incredible Hulk, iron man, and superman who come to another 's rescue, risking their lives to save the average person. However, seldom do you hear about Jean Grey or Invisible Women who do just as much, if not more for their communities. Gender has nothing to do with one 's actions, but gender stereotypes still rule the marvel society.
Saving lives, jumping from tall buildings, and flying -- is heroic characteristics. Sammy in John Updike's story “A&P” is not a hero. I believe he is not a hero because Sammy never interacted with the girls, he quit his job to impress the girls, and they never saw his action. Sammy never interacted with the girls, his mindset was just lust and how pleasing they are. “She had on a kind of dirty-pink bathing suit and, what got me the straps were down” (Updike).
Heroes in our society are revered and respected as Joseph Campbell reminds us: “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” (Joseph Campbell). Heroes exist in all societies and throughout history. Maybe they are not always on the news or from the movies, but their words and their actions never fail to resonate across their feats. A hero gives of himself and dedicates himself to causes which better others and their society unlike individuals who are self serving, greedy, and cruel.
A hero is someone who is brave, smart, and courageous and has also accomplished something heroic that was influential in some way. My hero is Kobe Bryant who committed to helping many of the world's problems such as when he donated money to the Make A Wish Foundation in order to help sick kids with harmful diseases or when he made an impact on the After-school All-Star program. Kobe Bryant was a hero because he helped sick kids in need by granting 250 wishes to the Make A Wish Foundation and made an effort contributing to the After-School All-star program which provided new opportunities for more than 90,000 kids. Kobe Bryant was an american professional basketball player that was well known for his 5 NBA championships and overall one of the best basketball
A man runs into a burning building to save his elderly neighbor. A doctor goes to a third world country to offer free health clinics to the poor. The teachers who gave their lives to protect the students at Sandy Hook. These people are all perfect examples of what a hero is. A hero is someone who honored for his or her brave actions and noble merits.
There have been many heroes throughout the decades. Some have educated us to become greater people; others have taught us to go with our gut feeling and live life to the fullest. Hero’s come in all shapes and sizes. You would think that hero’s have to be big and strong, in all reality they can be the smallest person on the planet and have a strong voice everyone listens to. Helen Keller was the first deaf blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.
