I was in the car one morning with my mom, and I looked at her with these big eyes and said, “I’m a SENIOR”, and I started to cry. Knowing that I had one year left until I went out into the real world. Knowing that I wouldn’t have my teachers or my mom there to push me and to make sure I got things done. One year left until I went to college, one year left until I started to make my own decisions.
This year I have prepared myself for college and career readiness. Being able to manage my time is one major skill needed for college. Being able to write a letter to contact a business we would like to Job Shadow also prepares me to communicate with others which also helps me in the real world.
Having to go to school, practice for my SAT every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4:30-6:30 for a whole month, having to go to church every Tuesday to help out

Before we actually job shadowed a person in the career field we were interested in we had to write a letter asking if we could job shadow that specific person and to tell them why we were interested, and to let them know that if they allowed us to job shadow they would be helping us to make sure we were truly interested in that career field. I was interested because one day I would like to become a police officer or a member of S.W.A.T. Writing that letter made me feel older than I actually was. Writing that letter also prepared me for college and the career job I was interested in. I knew it was preparing me to become a police officer because police officers always have to write police reports when they stop someone and also when they have to go to court. In college I know we would also be having to write essays and other assignments that we would have to have a lot of experience
As I end my sophomore year at Old Dominion University I think about all that I have accomplished in the past two years. I think about traveling to Peru and volunteering at an Hogar and Hospital as a Freshmen, Becoming Co-President of the Women’s ministry for ODU’s Catholic Campus Ministry, and to working hard and receiving good grades in all my classes. Not only do I think about all the work that I have done so far but I also think about my family and all the sacrifices they have made for me. I think about my parents waking up early every day to go to work just so we could have food on the table and a roof over our heads.
A Look into The Purpose Of College When thinking about the purpose of college, most people tend to lean towards either job-driven or life-driven. In the article “What’s The Purpose Of College?”, Brandon Busteed looks deeper into the meaning of the purpose of college. Instead of looking at college as solely preparation for a good job, we can also look at it as a way to prepare a person for a successful life through broad education. After reading this article, I agree with the author that the purpose of college is equally preparing students for jobs while also assisting them in ways to thrive throughout their life to be successful with a purpose. Summary
My eyes automatically drifted to the tall bright palm tree that moved along with the rhythm of the wind. It’s leafs danced as they presented their welcome. The sun shined down and hugged me with warmth, giving my skin a tingling, but satisfying sensation. I had come from Virginia to California, the famous, constantly spoken of state, that finally reached my sight. The state presented its beautiful attributes to capture my wonder and mesmerization.
Everyone Grows Up Sometime: Coming of Age in To Kill a Mockingbird Prior to the spring break of my seventh grade year, I didn’t know how harsh the world could really be. I mean I knew about sickness, violence, death, all that good stuff, but I just sort of blew it off because nothing in my life had happened to where I needed to face those things. When I was 12 during spring break, I was as happy as any child would be on their spring vacation, but one day my parents pulled me and my brother aside and told us some pretty devastating news. They had told us that our grandfather had passed away in a house fire a few days ago.
By the time I graduate high school, I will already have my college associate degree that I will have earned through my hard work and dedication. Even though I went through a lot at such a young age, it has shaped me in every possible way. I was exposed to a whole different language and culture, but I was able to succeed through my strong desire of success and dedication. I am thankful for every challenge that I had to go through because if it was not for them, I would not be the person I am
My journey consisted of many good and bad times, and throughout the years I discovered my strengths and weaknesses. I made new friends, took on different tests, accomplished many things. My first year was my most difficult, being new to the school, but as the years went by, school became a more fun experience for me. Knowing that the 4 years of high school was a journey for me, I was able to brace myself for the difficult times to come and the rewards I was going to receive. At the end of the journey, I had gained a lot from these 4 years, but it also prepared me for my next journey, my journey through university.
The place I decided to carry out my job shadowing experience is at Select Physical Therapy. During my time there, I decided to shadow an Occupational therapist who specialized in hand therapy. I wanted to shadow an Occupational Therapist because at the time, I was interested in becoming an Occupational Therapist and I wanted to see if this is really the career path I wanted to take. At first when I started my job shadowing experience, I was a little nervous since I was not quite sure what I was supposed to be doing since I have not shadowed a place before.
On February 21, 2018, I had the opportunity to job shadow Ms. Drohn, the assistant professor in the school of nursing. The main reason why I choose to shadow Ms. Drohn was because I have been told by others that I will make a great teacher someday. I figured how bad could it be to experience what it is like to be a teacher. After all, my other main goal is to be a pediatric nurse so this worked out perfect because I get to experience what it is like to teach nursing students.
Just the thought of not knowing what I was supposed to do with the rest of my life made the last little bit of my senior year, very stressful. I then found out that not knowing and being undecided was perfectly okay and I was ready to begin my freshman year at Saint Petersburg College. Talking about graduating high school always seemed unrealistic because it was such a huge goal. After graduation, I had never felt so proud of myself.
Scoring a fifteen in the life balance section of the profile solidified the idea that I am doing well at managing my time. As a person who loves a decent challenge, I always strive to push myself to take on more obligations even when it may seem my plate is already full. I thrive in an environment where I am being hard-pressed to achieve greatness. Having this pressure sometimes makes it difficult to separate my work life and home life, but that is something I have been working on as a personal goal. For the most part, I believe I set a suitable example for my employees to follow.
I matured from a annoying, little thirteen year old into a intelligent, successful seventeen year old. Everyone who has been a part of my life, especially those mentioned or pictured in my scrapbook, as helped me grow and flourish. My intelligence level grew, my athletic talent grew, my physical development (continually) grew, and lastly my personality grew. Freshman year, I was originally more reserved and socially awkward, but now I strive to be myself in every shape and form. I’ve learned that being yourself is the best way to make friends, have fun, and succeed through high school.
For my job shadowing experience I went to Eversheds, it is a corporate law firm and their offices in Johannesburg are in Melrose Arch. I chose to job shadow at a law firm as I had an aptitude test done by Professor Nel who comes highly recommended, one of the top choices to pursue as a career, was law. My strengths are in languages and my ability to connect and speak to people of all ages. Being a lawyer would include me having to have face-to-face interaction with clients, and I will be able to use these skills to my advantage as a lawyer. In this law firm, there are many different types of lawyers.
As high school went on, the workload grew, but I also grew, so I was perfectly capable of keeping up with the work. This type of growth came rather easy to me. It was important for me to have one thing I could be confident with through all of the drama and chaos in my life. Growing in my community was not challenging thanks to the Live Algoma movement. Our community itself has experienced so much growth over the past four years, which allowed many students, including me, to grow in their community involvement as well.
College is full of experience and to get that experience students need to get involved in campus and use all the resources that their campus offer. For my first semester at university I learned lots of information that helped me go through my first semester and I will keep using this resources until I graduate. and these resources are not just for school but also for my personal life. The first thing I have learned in college is how to manage my time and it's important to know that skill so that I would not waste time doing nothing and get schoolwork done and it won’t make me stressful because I have many assignment and project to do. and to always get done with my priority first which is my school work.
