Everybody has the opportunity to be a hero, but does everyone take it? A hero is someone who is respectful and willing to put their safety in harms way in order to keep others safe. In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Ponyboy, a 14 year-old Greaser is a hero who is concerned about the well-being of people around him, and of people he might not even know. Johnny, the Outsiders Gang’s pet, is also a hero. Dally who is a hardened teenager in the Outsiders Gang is not a hero because he does not realize that there are more important things in life other than looking cool. What a wonderful world we would live in if everyone strived to be a hero.
Ponyboy is a hero. When the time comes, he always pulls through by not being afraid. When Pony realizes

He was always looking for trouble and was not interested in anybody's feelings like in this instance “ [Dally] put his feet up on the redheads chair, winked at [Ponyboy] and beat his own record for saying something dirty.”(p 87). Nobody would want to be treated like this, and anyone with good sense would know that. A hero is somebody who is pleasant and congenial but Dally does not have either of this characteristics. Right before the death of Johnny out of fear to losing Johnny Dallas went on a rant saying “‘That’s what you get for helpin’ people,’”( p 147). The selfishness of this quote is astonishing and I am glad that this is just a fictional character, but the fact that The Outsiders is based off of reality is eye-opening because people like Dally might have similar thoughts.
Those who are gracious, kind, and cautious of other’s well-being are heroes. Ponyboy was a hero because of how he was not only capable of thinking about the common good of others but was also able to carry through with those actions. Although Johnny was a hero, he was one to the people closest to him, by treating them with kindness and wise words that made an impact on them. Dally was not a hero because of his selfish thoughts, words, and actions that hurt others in many ways. The world as we know it could be changed if all of us were able to grasp the concept of a hero, and perform those same
A hero is someone who has pride and is committed to putting others before themselves. Heroes risk their own lives to save others. In the book The Outsiders, the greasers are not considered heroes. All three of the boys; Dally, Johnny and Ponyboy are heroes by my definition.
Dally is seen as a heartless cold, thug and throughout the novel Ponyboy sees that he truly has a heart. Dally is a trouble-maker and he has no space in his heart except for hate and regret. Ponyboy describes Dally as a thug by saying, “He was tougher than the rest of us tougher, colder, meaner. The shade of difference that separates a greaser from a hood wasn’t present in Dally”(S.E Hinton, pg 10) As ponyboys grow up as a greaser he can see the difference between a greaser and a hood. Throughout Dally’s action, he shows that he is heartless and that he will not care if someone gets hurt.
Johnny is a very shy and small boy that nobody would ever think in their good mind that he is the best hero in the novel, The Outsiders. Johnny has did a lot of things in the novel that you would think a kid like him would never do. Johnny Cade is the hero because he is identified for his courage, has outstanding achievements, and finally stood up to his parents Johnny Cade is the prime hero in the novel, The Outsiders because after he killed
So, the fact that he will always stick up for his gang even if they did something embarrassing or horrifying shows not only true friendship but also fierce loyalty and love. Throughout the book Pony has always stuck up for his gang and proven just how important it is to him to stick by them and it proves that this fierce loyalty and necessity to stick up for his gang is something he lives
Do you think Dally is a hero based on what he did? Johnny thinks Dally is an hero because he gave him an plan and supplies and told him how to survive from going to jail. Yes i think dally an hero because he saved Johnny from going to the jail. 4. Why does Pony
For example, when Johnny is hospitalized after being attacked by the Socs, Dally risks his own safety to visit him and bring him necessities, showing his deep care and concern for his friend. Additionally, when Ponyboy is in trouble with the law after the Socs attack, Dally helps him escape and hides him, again demonstrating his loyalty and commitment to his friends.
In the beginning of the book, we only think Dally is a big tough guy who doesn’t care about anybody else. Dally has had a very tough life. His parents “walked out on him” in a way, and his only family is the rest of the gang. Since he had no one to tell him what to do, he was usually in some
But also different from Johnny, he didn’t have any other support, not even the gang, as they met after he turned into a young adult. Also, different from both Johnny and Pony, he didn’t want to save the children in the burning church, as he said to both boys when they were heading in the church: "Get back in here before I beat your head in." That shows that he didn’t care about the children, and that he is cold hearted. But on the other hand, that shows that he does care about other people, because he didn’t want Johnny and Pony to get hurt. Another example is when he said the following to himself after Johnny died: “...that's what you get for tryin' to help people, you little punk, that's what you get..."
Ch 10 Pg 154 “ Dally didn’t die a hero.” The quote is significant by connecting to an Essential question because he said that Johnny died like a hero in the fire saving the children, and Dally died like a hoodlum robbing a bank.
This quotation supports my statement because it he said to not worry, because he’ll get them which shows he’s courageous and helps others. Ponyboy is also very strong and not a coward. One of the quotations that can support my statement is when he goes inside the burning church and it was “a red hell”, Ponyboy said, “I should be scared, I thought with an old detached feeling, but I’m not.” (p. 92)
What is a hero? A hero is someone who is courageous and is willing to step up and fight when the time is right. A hero fights for is for the betterment of others, and not only to benefit themselves. Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally are all heroes in "The Outsiders," by S. E. Hinton, although Johnny is the greatest hero of them all.
In fact, he went around trying to break rules. “Dally hated to do things the legal way. He liked to show that he didn't care whether there was a law or not. He went around trying to break laws“ (pg 20). Dally likes to show that he can’t be changed by authority and wanted to show it by breaking laws and not caring for anyone or anything.
Dallas Winston, the “Outsider” Ponyboy and his gang are all considered “Outsiders” but there is one greaser from their gang that stands out the most with the title of “Outsider”. Dallas Winston is a hoodlum from New York who had been arrested many times since he was 10 years old. His parents weren’t around when he was growing up, and this really affected his life because he didn’t have anyone to tell him what to do. The author chose this title for the book because she wanted to give an immediate example of how the greasers were treated back then. In the novel The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton, there are many characters that could be considered “Outsiders”; but Dally is the biggest “Outsider” in the story.
(1.48) After Johnny died, Dally makes an enormous sacrifice that took away his life. He loved Johnny so much that he couldn't take the fact he was gone. Dally was known to be the most cold-blooded member of the gang but after Johnny's death, he was the one who showed the most affection. Dally wouldn’t have been shot if he didn’t love Johnny so much, and sacrificed himself.
society's beliefs, regulations, and restrictions. There are heroes for both men and women of all ages. Every society has their own heroes, whether they are heroes because of their wealth, political career, war triumphs, athletic achievements or social leads. Benjamin Disraeli once said: “To believe in the heroic makes heroes”. Any individual can turn into a hero by saving someone in danger, giving up his or her life so someone else could live.
