In the play the Crucible there are many central Ideas and themes . They show and develop over the course of the play making it more meaningful . This essay will express two main themes . One example of a theme in this play is irony . An example of irony is whenever in act two Proctor is restating his commandments and he forgets thou shall not commit adultery. Proctor said “ thou shall not steal . Thou shall not convet thy neighbor’s goods …” During this , it was ironic because Arthur Miller made it out to believe that Proctor cheated on his wife Elizabeth , the fact that he forgot the commandment made it ironic .
