Interest-Based, Problem-Solving involves the needs, concerns, or desires that underlie the positions that people take. We use this type of method to help answer questions such as why? and why not? It’s not a complicated why of solving problems, but it does take some time. “An interest-based approach recognizes that using power within a relationship to force an agreement often results in decisions that are unwise, are of poor quality, or are not accepted or supported by those who will carry them out” (Polzin & DeLord, 2006, pg. 34). We simply can’t be bullies when it comes to using this method. Everyone has to be in agreement with what actions that will be used to carry out the problems. There are six steps when using the Interest-Based, Problem-Solving Method: (1) Select an issue or problem to address; clarify and build understanding about the issue, (2) Identify the stakeholders (who are affected) and their interest, needs or concerns about the issue, (3) Invent options that might address all or some of the interests, (4) Evaluate the options against the interest; identify overarching interests that is interests that are shared by all) that any solution should meet; discuss the …show more content…
Lastly, the department needs to put the officers on administration release why the investigation is underway. Step five, everyone needs to sit down and discuss the procedures so the community has a better understanding what the officer’s jobs are when called to a situation like this. You also what to talk about ways you can prevent an event like this from happening again in the future. Lastly, the community and the police department need to develop plans on how to prevent this. The community should come up with a plan like neighbor watch, which allows the community to help out before involving the police. Something like this might have prevented an event like
Instead of the community searching for the robber to keep their community safe they let the robber free and is preferring to take money from its people. Since everybody in the community is being forced to help, those
Due to the police “brotherhood” they took the situation lightly and turned it into a mess. No proper questioning or evidence was collected due this facet. A major factor was that Officer Banks was treated has if he was innocent a hundred and ten percent. The sheriff’s department should have questioned him and detained him like any other case.
Tackling the source from the ground up is one of the approach the law enforcement can take. In Addition to the solution for gang control , the no snitching rule that was instated upon the community was also a issue that needed a solution. The community fear their life if they decided to speak up against violence that is happening around them . Fearing the safety of one’s life is important but in order to stop being afraid they have to start speak up. Let your voices be heard speak up against the people and the violence that is happening in the community.

The Kansas City police officers stole several items and cash in a house that had surveillance cameras during a staged sting operation. Nevertheless, a responsive officer serving a specific neighborhood has the potential to have an impactful presence in the community. The third program the BPD vehemently supports is the neighborhood watch program. The purpose of the program is to reduce and prevent neighborhood crime. The Neighborhood watch literature published by the BPD neighborhood watch programs have resulted in significant decreases in burglary and similar offenses across the nation. Additionally, to complement the primary goal, BPD highlights 4 additional objectives which are; educating community members on the most effective methods to secure their homes, facilitating relationship building by uniting community members toward a
In the last 10 years, we saw many conflicts between police officers and citizens, which result into dead of innocent people and it was not a good image for police department. One of the issues is that the law enforcement gives the police
After the investigation began I was advised that the Chief of Police of Mount Carmel Township instructed these officers to change their
Ethics and the Evolution of Police Policing in this present day is defined as an individual or group of individual who prevent and detect crime within a community. Policing compares in many ways. They all attempt to provide services, keep the peace and reduce crime. Policing has evolved into something much more than what it used to be. Within this essay are the many different perspectives and how ethics were learned.
Throughout the movie “End of Watch” follows along with Officer Brian Taylor (Gyllenhaal) and Officer Mike Zavala (Pena) on their daily patrols in the inner city of Los Angeles. During the course of the movie, there are many things that Officer Taylor and Officer Zavala do that is very common and even accepted among police officers. But, one reoccurring theme is that they use foul language while on duty, act unprofessional, and use excessive force. In addition, Officer Taylor is actively recording his daily activities while on duty with a handheld video camera and lapel body cameras for both himself and Officer Zavala. Even though Officer Taylor was repeatedly told to cease his filming by fellow officers and supervisors he continued his behavior.
The residents claimed that they called the police but not all the time they answered in a great
Officers abuse their power and most of the time get away with it which is not right, they are figures that the public trust to enforce the laws and keep them
This creates a situation that allows police officers discretion in the way they think about what they see and how they handle those with whom they come in contact. There has been an effort by the research community to examine issues concerning how police act and respond in general and what police do specifically when they interact with citizens. A conspicuous void in the research effort has been the lack of attention paid to the process by which police officers form suspicion about a suspect whether or not a formal intervention such as a stop was made. Officers in Savannah, Georgia were observed and debriefed after they became suspicious about an individual or vehicle. Observers accompanied officers on 132, 8-hour shifts, during
They have to gather knowledge of the crimes in the area and what the underlying causes of the social problems is. They must create a plan that works to deter crime, and assess the progress of those plans to see if it works or what needs to be changed. Because it is still a newer approach, all departments should (if they already haven’t), create a community policing division that focuses on what is going on in their community around them. Officers need to build trust between themselves and the communities they serve; which means, responding to the calls that are considered “non-emergency. This will help the community not only build trust, but hold the officers more accountable.
They riot and call the police liars, refusing to believe multiple coroners reports and witnesses testimony. The media spreads controversy and reports on select stories often times while having only a little information, spreading lies and mistrust. It has become very clear that something needs to change fast, but what can be done? I strongly believe that requiring every police officer across the
It is easy to learn about a subject from a book, but it is an entirely different matter to learn about a subject through real life experience. I hope to learn how to serve and protect while implementing the law correctly, especially in today’s world when the level of support for police officers is very low and the level of misconduct cases concerning the police are very high. It is not easy to know what to do in every situation, especially when some reactions are needed with very little or no time to think about. It is one thing to hear about a crime happening and the response that would be best to give, and another thing to need
