Inhumanity In Night By Elie Wiesel

At first glance, Weisel, along with the other Jews are presented as inhuman to the Germans. When the Jews are first transported to the concentration camps in cattle cars, the Germans lay out a few ground rules. The Germans expect the Jews to stay in their designated places and that “if anyone is missing” they “would be shot like dogs” (22). The Germans compare the Jewish to animals. They transport the Jews in cattle cars, and call them dogs, bringing them down to the level of animals rather than human beings.

In Night by Elie Wiesel one of the main themes of the story is concentration camps and how to survive the harsh and cruel conditions in which he and many others had to endure. The brutal conditions were forced upon Elie and his family, throughout the story the reader in immersed in a first-hand account of the inhumane circumstances. A concentration camp is a type of prison where large numbers of people who are not soldiers are kept during a war and are usually forced to live in very bad conditions. During all of the struggles Elie gains a bit of life knowledge, and learns more emotions about himself. If this journey never happened Elie would still be focussing about his studies and not about his family. A fact Elie acquires during the holocaust is always to stay positive in hard times. An example of this is when Elie is running for miles and notices men giving up just makes Elie think about when he can sleep and eat at the next camp. When news comes that the Russians will save the prisoners, Elie keeps this as a positive and keeps thinking this horrifying journey will be over.
