College isn’t just a way to get an education, its not just learning a skill to get a better job, or make more money, its a place for the mind to grow, for you to grow as a person. Most colleges today only focus on teaching the material about the subject at hand, but not giving the students skills for the real world. A liberal arts college benefits students in more ways than an ordinary college, by providing the students with moral values, strengthening their faith, and bringing a sense of God being a part of everything we do. In todays society teachers are taught to teach the materials students need to excel/pass the course, lacking the morality of it all. In a religious liberal arts college, each professor has to be the religion of the university. Houston Baptist University is a Baptist bases Liberals Arts College, where every teacher must be a Christian. Christians want and desire to be Christ like, meaning to serve and be the best person they can be for themselves, and others. As teachers you have a huge impact on the students, they could make or break a subject for a student. The more involved they are with the students, and the more they care the …show more content…
You surround yourself with so many different people kinds of, people with the same love for Christ you have. It is a great way to build you your faith and build up others faith. Surrounding yourself with those who have the same beliefs motivate your to be better. You get an overall better understand of what being a Christian really means, and how to defend it. “… studying them will give us the brain-power to better defend our beliefs and convince others that the Christian worldview is true”(Robin Phillips). Phillips, in the quote, wants to make a point that we need to spread the word. To spread the word we need knowledge to back it up. In doing so, we need to be educated to answer questions, and to spread the truth of the
People go to college to get a good paying job, have job security, and get a degree. Well at least that’s what it should be about. That’s what Charles Murray believes in his essay “Are Too Many People Going to College.” Murray counters the argument of Sanford Ungar who believes colleges should have a more liberal approach towards its classes and have students actually learn a broad range of real life skills instead of just going into a career just because it pays well. In Ungar’s essay he explains the misperception that Americans have on obtaining a liberal-arts degree and how they believe it doesn’t translate well to the real world.
In Charles Murray’s essay “Are Too Many People Going to College,” he believes that the concept of college has changed over the years. According to him, a four-year college is no longer as necessary as it was when it was first created because most jobs requires more on job training. He also adds to his reasoning by mentioning that because of the advancement of internet, physical libraries and the physical proximity of student and teachers is less important. Because of the changes he noticed he believes that people should go to college but not for liberal education. He makes the claim that the basic core knowledge of liberal education should be learned in elementary and middle school and that only people with high academic abilities should be encouraged to go to college.
In my opinion, I agree with Murray’s claim that four year college is not worth, job satisfaction for intrinsic reward, and the dark side of the Bachelor's degree. In my view, Murray’s is right, because college requires student to take 32 courses in four years or longer and not all courses are relate to the field they study with. More specifically, I believe that four years college will take more time to achieve our goal and knowledges doesn’t teach us how to make a living in our society. Murray described in his article, “More people should be getting the basic of a liberal education. But for most students, the places to provide those basics are elementary and middle school” (235).

Going to college for many students is just a normal part of life. It is what will enable them to get an education that eventually will lead to get a well-paid job and the resources and the status to live a comfortable life. But for college professor, Andrew Delbanco, the American college has a higher purpose. In the article “College at Risk”, Delbanco states that colleges should be promoting critical thinking among students, through knowledge of the past and the interaction with each other; as well as, help them discover their talents and passions and figure out what they want to do in life. This type of education is called liberal arts and for Delbanco, it represents the ideal education.
“3 Reasons College Still Matters” by Andrew Delbanco 3) “Surely, every American college ought to defend this waning possibility, whatever we call it. And an American college is only true to itself when it opens its doors to all - the rich, the middle, and the poor - who have the capacity to embrace the precious chance to think and reflect before life engulfs them. If we are all serious about democracy, that means everyone.” 4) In this part of the writing Andrew Delbanco tries to persuade his audience by using the pattern of logic that agrees with the overall argument but also considers another striking point of view to strengthen the argument (While these arguments are convincing, they must also consider…).
For many people, college is an important key for their future. Some people go to college for the job opportunities and the new windows it can open. Others go just for the education and experience. A good education is beneficial from many different viewpoints; in truth, it is a possibility that one's adult life could be much harder than people care to think. One can have better wealth, is less likely to be unemployed, and a much higher chance of being closer to your family.

The outstanding achievements that define the College of Arts and Sciences are a source of inspiration for all. This is due to its deep commitment to solving real-world problems through excellence in research, while providing an outstanding and affordable liberal arts education and engaging students’ talents in the global world in which we live. Here are a few highlights that demonstrate my excitement for what all the members of this college have accomplished: • Among our many students’ achievements and
A rising issue in today’s society is deciding whether or not college is worth the cost. There is an extreme amount of pressure that is forced upon high school students by parents, teachers, and peers to further their education and attend college. However, there is research that challenges the thought that college is the best possible path for a person to take. College may be a great investment for some people, but it is not meant for everyone. This is supported by the arguments that colleges are expensive, jobs do not always require a college degree, and students are forced to choose a lifestyle before being exposed to the real world.

I believe that the liberal arts are one of the most overlooked and under-appreciated fields of study today. Society doesn’t recognize liberal arts as a necessity, but as an alternative to more “important” fields like STEM. We focus on math and science, and our children are pushed from a very young age to take STEM courses, rather than art or writing classes. STEM is an important part of innovation, but certainly not the only thing driving advancement. Liberal arts also plays a significant part in revolutionizing our world, yet society does not fully recognize the benefit of a liberal arts education.
Liberal Arts Reflection Statement A liberal arts education is an introduction to college studies that provide general education and develop creativity ability. Nowadays this type of education can prepare you for your future career(s). The purpose of a liberal arts education is, it encourages you to be your own person, you will be able to think for yourself, you will be understanding things you never studied in high school for example, Geology, Astronomy, Anthropology etc. and combine the new information you learned with your chosen major to make it more understandable for yourself.
the benefits of a liberal arts education. Some believe the specific technical education will give you a better opportunity to be monetarily successful by developing knowledge and skills. Others believe this advantage may be true for the beginning of a career, but the liberal arts education will win out in the end as the individual changes jobs and gets into leadership positions. When you look at the educational backgrounds of some CEO’s of technically oriented companies this appears to be true. It is generally agreed that a good leader be proficient in the technical aspects of his/her work, but that person will also benefit greatly from a good background in the liberal arts.
You can see his ultimately present and his creation throughout the world every day in the life we live (Zully, 2004). Just as Christ wants his servant to embrace knowledge so I will want my students to embrace knowledge and learn the value of an education. I will give complete clarity on how Christ wants everyone to know that education is very important even as we grasp Scripture for learning
