While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because there were many new job opportunities , it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrialization’s negative effects were little or no education, over competition for jobs and child labor laws weren’t enforced. First of all I would like to start off by pointing out that “In the Picture of “an Urban Tenement” you can see that there are kids around the house which is kind of implying that there not in school learning but instead you see them at home with women who which we can imply are their mothers”(document 6). With this being said this piece of evidence is showing us how back then people didn’t really care whether or not the children in the community got an education or not which shows us how there was little or no education back in this time. In my opinion this is sad because when you really think about it these children are being robbed of an education and a chance at a better future. Secondary I would like to say that In “The Encarta Graphic showing” it is implied that people are competing for the job in the assembly line because to assemble 10 units in a …show more content…
She was worked so much that after a while she started to become deformed from being a doffer for so long. She was still required to work even though she was deformed which just shows humanity how much child labor laws were needed to be enforced back in the 1800s. Because of the fact that child labor laws were not enforced back in this time many children had to suffer the abuse of the workers over working them and they also had to suffer growing up with deformities and not being able to grow up strong and healthy like kids should
Her main goal was to bring the whole world's attention on the numbers and working conditions of children and to protect both children and adults. This was her only conflict and main concern that she didn't plan on letting down until she came to a compromise. In Kensington, near Philadelphia, there were many laws on child labor that forbade the employment of children under the age of twelve. Surprisingly, many parents fought this law and enforced that their children began work even if they were under the age of twelve; this is what caused thousands of children to go on strike in the mines. The reason for so many parents pushing their children to begin work was because they were in desperate need of money.
Little or lack of education is a primary negative to the industrial revolution. An example is “C: what are your hours of labor in the mills? B: From 5 in the morning till 9 at night, when they were thronged” (Document 9). This is an example of a child at work at 5am till 9pm instead of being at school. This is bad because young kids need an education at least 12 years.
Environmental damage, exploitation of workers, and overpopulation in cities are all negative effects of American Industrialization. American Industrialization had many effects come out of it, both positive effects and negative effects. The positive effects of Industrialization are that it made work cheaper, employed thousands of workers, and improved people’s daily lives.
She expressed her long hours, sleeping conditions, and injuries to explain the depth of how child labor laws were unfair. “Between 1908 - 1912 Lewis Hine worked as the photographer for the National Child Labor Committee (NCLCS’s). During this time he documented child labor in American industry in an effort to support the NCLC’s efforts to end the practice. ”(Document 8). In this document, he expresses both the negatives and
Industrialization’s negative effects were little to no education, poor, horrible working conditions, and over polluting the air. The first reason is there was little to no education,
In this time period, the early 1800s, slaves were treated horribly and blacks and women had no rights. Through all the injustice facing her during
Industrialization’s negative effects were children had to work without an education, pollution came from all of the factories,
Child labor was another problem presented at this time. At the rate they were going back in 1900, 26% of boys between ten and fifteen were already working, and for girls it was 10% (Background Essay). Child labor was increasing as fast as the children working were dying. An example of this tragic scenario was Dennis McKee, a 15-year-old boy who was smothered to death by coal (Document B). This boy had a family, and that family had to deal with the loss of their son, all to the fault of an industry that thought to use young, able-bodied boys for their work was a fantastic idea.
She faced many hardships in early life. She was a slaver abolonist, and had an okay life after
Industrial life increased employment for both the wealthy rich people and the poor people. Factory production played a major role in industrialization; the economy was rough during this period of time for working class people, life for the poor was harsh and incomes were low. Therefore, many people created their own clothing, furniture and tools. The factory production provided employment for many women and children as well. In the text it says, “…mill owners began referring to the workers as “poor children,” that description of people.”
The Industrial Revolution was a horrific time in the 1700s by the fact that it caused bad pollution and children would be worn out at the end of their work day. The greatest aspect of industrialization was that the kids and adults had good surroundings. “Of these there are 500 children who are entirely fed, clothed, and educated by Mr.Dale” (Document 6). The quote is evidence that shows the kids were well cared for.
“ a human being in perfection ought always to preserve a calm and peaceful mind and never allow passion or a transitory desire to disturb his tranquility”(shelly) Industrialization is seen as bad, or at least brings bad things. Shelly is pointing out that we should keep our lives simple and not overcomplicate everything. We need to be happy and stress-free. Every time there is a problem such as murder or accusations, it is in industrialized areas, Shelly shows that industrialization and urbanization are where all the bad things happen in the book.
Conditions were hazardous and grueling. They worked long hours for little pay. Most of them could not read or write and they could not attend school because they needed to work. They suffered from malnutrition and exhaustion. They were innocent children that were locked up in factories, like they had committed a crime.
Child labor was a great concern in the Industrial revolution but very few people did something to stop it. Women and Children were forced to work more than 10 hours a day with only forty minutes to have lunch. Elizabeth Bentley once said that they didn’t have any time to have breakfast or drink anything during the day. They worked standing up and if they didn’t do their work on time they were strapped (whipped). Children were treating like they were not important, like they didn’t deserve a better life.
Industrial capitalism robs labourers from their human capabilities and what they can contribute to the world. Workers will lose a sense of themselves and of who they are, instead of fulfilling their needs, they deny themselves, rather than feeling joy they are depressed, they are also mentally and physically
