The football has changed throughout history. The Industrial Revolution influenced the many ways the football has been modified throughout time. From the material to the shape, the football has completely transformed from what it was when the game first started. The football has developed in many ways throughout history, including its advancement and the materials used to make it.
The Industrial Revolution has influenced the materials needed to make a football.
When the game of football first started, it was made out of cowhide, although many people thought it was made out of pigskin, hence the nickname pigskin. Some versions of the ball were made out of a pig’s bladder. The only trouble was inflating it, which was a fairly disgusting task. Sometimes the bladder would be stuffed with things like straw or scraps of other material, but stuffing rather than inflating tended to lead to a strange shape. Later on, the animal bladders were sometimes wrapped with leather of some type, although pig skin wasn't commonly used. The birth date of football is thought to be November of 1869. Initially, football was comprised of two games: running and kicking. The two games merged together and the ball began to slightly stretch out in order to accommodate more types of uses. Also, in the early games of football, there were 20 players on the field from each team and therefore it was more closely related to rugby.
