The movie “Independence Day” gives a lot of insight on how the decisions are made by the elite policy maker aka “the government officials”. These officials are influenced by many reasons for the actions they take. Some are making decisions based on their liberal ideals while others follow different ideals such as realist ideals. The clash between two different ideals in the movie showed the effectiveness of each of them. Liberal ideals are a form of an identity and they are really hard to be implemented on. Liberals Ideals constrain the policy makers to settle on balanced choices under circumstances where worldwide participation is required to anticipate worldwide emergency. The decision making process is very mind-opening in the movie. The …show more content…
The supposed death of his wife incited anger and hate in him. This contributed to his decision to use nuclear weapons. “Most people do not like the feeling of present anger. The hormones that pump into the bloodstream are not pleasure inducing. Instead, we often become hyper alert, ready to lash out at any potential threat. The need to do something, anything is sometimes over-whelming. Angry People shout, throw things, punch walls, hit spouses and shoot people. None of these behaviors are the signs of rational decision making.” (Noll, Elusive Peace, 2011). Many people can argue that losing control of yourself is not a good thing especially if the fate of the people is on your shoulders and if you have an important position as the President of any country as people believe in your ability to lead them by making rational decisions. Losing control of yourself can lead to bad decisions such as when President in the movie relieved the Secretary of Defense of his duties even though he might have been able to help them out in the future. To add to that, he also fought in the war as a pilot because he believed that he was born pilot and even though he was once a pilot, he was putting himself in a position where losing him would be devastating as he was the President of United
From making decisions regarding an entire country, to deciding whether to pursue personal dreams, many difficult decisions have been made in the past. There are many examples in history where the results of not acting are greater and far more devastating than those of a failed chance. Although the outcome is sometimes unknown, taking a chance is essential to create many opportunities. When America was first established, president George Washington had a difficult decision to make regarding rebellious southerners-sending troops would address the issue, but there was a risk that the country would fight against the government’s power.
Democracy allows for different interpretations as to how to legislate and enforce laws. Presidents are given the task to adapt and create a strategy for the situation they are placed within. While this may lead to controversial decisions, it has the ability to affect the world in a positive manner. Lyndon B. Johnson and Franklin D. Roosevelt are two presidents who affected the world greatly.
Rational behavior is not easy to achieve but it is possible. According to Charles Elder and Roger Cobb, “Rationality implies that political actions and evaluations are the product of consistent preferences, logical analysis, and abundant [unbiased] information. Irrationality, on the other hand presupposes that political actions and reactions are based on emotional impulses and blind prejudices that defy logic and that are insensitive to fact.” Elder and Cobb both compared the understanding of rational behavior and irrational behavior. Human beings are basically non-rational people.
While also keeping in mind he set a key example for the presidents of the United States to come in the future. Making sure that every move he made, speech he spoke would be perfect, and be a key example for the future. While also remembering that sometimes you had step out of your comfort zone to make sure that everyone was happy even though sometimes you think it is not right you have to keep the point of view of others in mind to have a healthy and happy government. Also keeping in mind that your military reflects your country and who you are as a president, knowing that he had to keep a powerful image he created one of the strongest military foundations in history making the United States military strong, dominant, intimidating, and smart. This showed how our country was lead by a true patriot, hero, and genius, George Washington, one of the greatest presidents of all of time in the United States
With injustice and cruelty running rampant in the world, it is unsurprising that people become determined to make things better for tomorrow. The cliché saying that the ends justify the means is often quoted by those aware of the moral greyness of their actions. Commendable yet unreasonable, leaders whose sole purpose in life is to fix what they see as “wrong” with the world fall prey to thinking there is only ally or enemy. In the long run, they harm those they try to liberate.
When trying to define a word such as Liberalism it seems difficult to find a solid definition. There are different forms of liberalism and different meanings depending on the time period it is being applied to (idea taken from Phil Badger author from philosophynow). To solve this ambiguity, I’ve decided to define liberalism based on the time period in which I will be conducting my research. Liberalism in the 1700s was the belief of freedom and equals rights generally associated with the enlightenment thinkers, John Locke and Montesquieu (as defined by wikipedia.org). Liberalism didn’t start in the 1700s.
Which explains that the government gets its power from the people. Also, because there was 27 points transgression against the king. Lastly, the declaration of independence is a liberal document because it says that if one doesn 't like the government than
A few paragraphs in this article made it seem like he was a very selfish man that got what he wanted when he wanted it. He didn't get what he wanted to he pushed back. In his term he made a lot of poor decisions that reflected his lousy personality. Not only that but the other way around as well. His lousy and unhappy personality led to very poor
The Pitfalls of Liberalism was a document by Stokely Carmichael who is known as one of the most recognized exponents of the “Black Power.” Movement. Stokely Carmichaels main argument in this document is that the efforts of Dr. Martin Luther King along with other civil rights activists had reached an endpoint since the use of “Widespread resistance within America” (238) was in effect. Throughout the semester, we have never seen a document where a leaders only solution to advance is by “calling for the mobilization of organized violence by African-Americans in order to seize political power” (238). The concept of calling upon one single race to take action is new.
What is America ? Early America was a formation of colonies formed into one united nation. The founding fathers of America shaped all of America 's ideas, and also structured the american democracy which is still present today. The American colonies now free from British rule could act freely and establish Their own new formation of Government, the declaration of independence, which separated them from British rule, and the Bill of rights.
Through his speeches, we were able to learn of his self-doubt and incapacity to act. One of
A historian once wrote that the 19th century was “a time of bitter conflict, as the world of the past fought to remain alive.” During the 19th century, there was an emergence of the political ideologies: liberalism, conservatism, and socialism. Liberalism sought to limit the government, preserve individual freedom and believed in the hierarchy of merit. Conservatism attempted to preserve the existing order and believed in tradition over reason. Socialists believed in strengthening parliaments and the working class to bolster laborers.

He never listened to the other side of the story, and was constantly hypervigilant. He lived in a constant fear of losing his precious power as President. It was later these events that cost Nixon his presidency, and that Paranoid Personality Disorder became more widely talked about. Paranoid Personality Disorder had found its way into the white house via Richard Nixon 's presidency.
Also, Realism ideas believe that state would act according to their own ideas and needs when Liberalism believes that state would act according to citizens ideas and needs. Realism believes in conflicts, aggression, militaristic expansions and Liberalism believes in measuring of power trough countries economy, in the cooperation and peace, in the nation/people`s rights and in ideas of political and nations/peoples freedom. Also, Realism believes that United Nation is pointless because organization cant keeps another state what it wants for example: (Russian annexation of Crimea and Russian occupation in Georgia) but actually Liberalism believes that United Nations can`t force states to obey the organization, but Liberals think that UN is still important in our reality. Liberalism just believes that international organizations like United Nations, give states the ways in which to cooperate with each other and to gain one another's trust. Also Realists argue that all states have same interests and all countries are interested in increasing
