Therefore, People who are more capable of solving problems enjoy cognitive, emotional and communication skills at a higher level. They are able to build healthy relationships and suffer from less depression and anxiety [6,7,8]; Moreover, they have higher confidence and motivation to efficiently deal with problems [9]. The art of nursing requires knowledge, skills and expertise. Problem-solving is an essential skill contributing greatly to effective nursing performance [10]. Problem-solving skills and knowledge-based decision-making are the expected behavior of nursing students [11]. Learning such skills should start at university [12,13]. This helps them efficiently apply theoretical knowledge acquired at university in real-world situations where they are expected to solve patient’s problems [12]. Psychologists have noted the significance of motivation in education because of the existing relationship between motivation and new learning skills, strategies and behavior [14]. According to Goral, factors such as the desire to solve problems, or interest in problem-solving skills, motivation and desire to succeed, a desire to please the teacher, etc., are all among the factors affecting problem-solving skills [15]. He shares perspectives on four universal thinking skills: Distinctions; “Systems; Relationships; and Perspectives (DSRP)” that should be taught in learning institutions. Dr. Cabrera states, “Thinking is simply a process of structuring information and doing something meaningful with it.” Dr. Cabrera also argues that people lack critical analytical thinking, great at school work, but not real life situation. Education needs to be fixed from the bottom up; that can be accomplished by teaching thinking skills.
Intrinsic motivation refers to performing an activity for it own sake and the joy received from it. Extrinsic motivation refers to performing an activity for some external reward, such as money or food. Between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation, there are five levels of motivation, differing by their level of self-determination. First is amotivation, in which an athlete has no extrinsic or intrinsic reasons for continuing their sport or activity. Next, external regulation refers to an athlete performing an activity to fulfil an external demand or for an external reward, such as a paycheck.
Problem solving skills are very important in every aspect of your life. How you solve a problem is who you are. If you solve problems swiftly then it can be said that you are a leader. If you are more of a downtempo problem solver, you tend to push things off. When I have problems, I strive to fix them hastily before they can get too extensive.
The advancement in medical science, technology and complexity of the current patient care, demands the nurses to be prepared with the knowledge and skills in Assessment and Intervention, Effective Communication, Critical Thinking, Patient Relationship, Leadership, Management and Teaching. As the required competency increases, the curriculum needs to prepare the nursing graduates to have these core competencies as outlined by COPA model (Competency Outcomes and Performance Assessment)” (Lenburg, 1999 a, b). The BSN curriculum is tailored to accommodate these professional development requirements, the modern era demands that incorporate a broad scope of practice, giving a better edge in competency compared to an ADN, especially in Critical Thinking. A noteworthy point is that the differences in clinical competencies of a BSN and ADN are few compared to management, leadership, decision making and communication competencies.

Burns, addresses and explains the taxonomy of Thinking Skills by focusing on the four major thinking skill categories, including: Analytical Reasoning Skills, Critical Thinking Skills, Organizational Thinking Skills, and Creative Thinking Skills. In the article, Burns explains the purpose of the taxonomy was to identify, “thinking skills that were most frequently addressed in the professional literature and within the various thinking skills programs and materials” (Burns D.E., 1993). Burns uses the article to provide strategies and examples in order for educators to successfully implement the taxonomy and thinking skills in different classroom settings. The article provides multiple outlets to provide the stimulus needed to exercise the Thinking Skills highlighted in the article.
Nursing, and everything that it entails, cannot be easily described in just one simple word or phrase. It goes beyond the meaning of a profession and the stereotypical definition of treating the ill. Nursing is the “protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations” (American Nurses Association, 2010, p. 1). Therefore, it is a career that requires dedication, passion, critical thinking, and knowledge.
