Over the years, there are a lot of changes that has happened in this profession, where others may or may not find it beneficial. Before it has been established, dental hygienists are dependent to Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDHO), which by that time they can just work on a client when a dentist gave them an instruction. The research that I have already done on this profession is a dental hygienist annual salary and required hour of work. Some more research I utilized is how many years of college are needed, what you do while at work, and if you work by yourself or who you work with.

There are many different career paths and so many jobs for people to choose. Different people are made special for different jobs. I however have chosen to become a Dental Hygienist. I feel this career is the best choice for me. I think good dental hygiene is very important and I take pride in keeping my teeth clean and healthy.

We help the hygienist and the dentist on the things the needed and wanted. My role there is to provide them dental trays, and equipment’s so that they won’t be behind for their next appointments with their patients. I have to use communication skills to know when they would need their equipment’s. If their equipment’s are not prepared when the patient arrives it would cause a major situation between me and the co-workers. My job is very important and I have to be cautious and be aware of my surrounding all the time.

Ever since I was young, dentistry had sparked my interest for my career. Dentistry appeals to me chiefly because I had always wanted to be involved in a profession where I can help people. My love towards human biology especially human teeth also contributes to my career choice. Most importantly, I find human teeth interesting, often fascinating. Due to my compassionate nature, I have since long known that I would want to pursue dentistry as my career because I get to form relationships with my patients, work hand in hand with many people on a face to face basis.

I have considered Dental Health for my health determinant, as there is a growing concern that children are having more than their recommended daily amount of sugar. According to (World Health Organisation, 2012) 60-90% of children nationally have dental caries. There are many dangers of sugar, children who regularly drink fruit juices and fizzy drinks are more prone to tooth decay due to the buildup of plaque on the teeth. When the plaque reacts with the sugars from the drink, it produces acid. The acid causes the tooth enamel to disintegrate leading to tooth decay.
