1) Impetigo: Impetigo is a bacterial infection that typically affects children ages 2-5 (Hartman-Adams, Banvard, & Juckett, 2014). Impetigo is most commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus (Hartman-Adams et al., 2014). Impetigo presents as either nonbullous or bullous (Hartman-Adams et al., 2014). Nonbullous impetigo is also known as impetigo contagiosa and makes up roughly 70% of cases (Hartman-Adams et al., 2014). Diagnosis of impetigo in both presentations is clinical (Hartman-Adams et al., 2014). Impetigo is highly contagious and is spread through direct contact (Napierkowski, 2013). Daycare or school is a common place for transmission for children and adults (Napierkowski, 2013). The weather, specifically heat and humidity, can …show more content…
The infected individual will develop vesicles or lesions over the body that are fluid filled and have a high probability of rupturing. Patients will typically present with hundreds of lesions or vesicles. The length of time for vesicle formation is 4-5 days (Soman & Madan, 2013). Chicken pox can be transmitted airborne or through direct contact with the fluid present in the vesicles (Soman & Madan, 2013). Patients with chickenpox are considered infectious48 hours prior to the vesicular rash (Soman & Madan, 2013). The incubation of chickenpox can be anywhere from 10-21 days (Soman & Madan, 2013). Once a patient has had the chickenpox, he or she develops immunity against the illness. There is a varicella vaccination that provides children with immunity against chickenpox. Both adults and children who have not had the varicella vaccination or had chickenpox should avoid contact with any persons that have the chickenpox given how contagious the illness …show more content…
AD is associated with severe itching and eczematous lesions that are reoccurring (Weidinger & Novak, 2016). Roughly one fifth of populations in developed countries are affected by AD (Weidinger & Novak, 2016). Lesions in AD can appear anywhere on the body (Weidinger & Novak, 2016). AD occurs due to an imbalance between T-helper-2 response and IgE responses to allergens, which become exaggerated (Weidinger & Novak, 2016). Patients with AD are at risk for skin infections due cracking in the skin from the dryness and
The infectious disease can remain in the air, on the surface, and objects for several hours after an affected person leave the room. Haelle mention Mark Schleiss, he is a director of Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Minnesota Medical School,
So we ran a BLAST on Anthony’s blood to identify the DNA sequence for the bacteria and diagnose him. The BLAST identified the bacteria that he has to be Influenza B Virus, also known as the flu. To treat the flu, acetaminophen was given to decrease the fever and help with the muscle aches, as well as antiviral medications to fight the virus. Getting lots of rest and drinking lots of fluids will also help his body fight off the virus even
“A Pox Upon Their Houses” Analysis Essay In the article “A Pox Upon Their Houses”, author Amy Haywood Hughes argues that parents should have their children vaccinated to lower their risk of getting chicken pox. Amy supports her opinion with many examples, and fact within the article. She starts off her article with a background story of her life and previous events that have happened before. Within the article she continues to inform people in how important it is for the children .
This disease’s transmission would be spread through bodily fluid, sexual contact, blood and semen and even material contact too.. It can be transmitted very easily and very consolidated to contain. A perfect representation of this topic would be when a nurse had gotten the Ebola symptoms from taken care of a Ebola patient, Thomas Duncan. The nurses name is Nina Pham and she got a transfusion from a Ebola survivor and it seemed to work very well. Even though she was stricken with such a deadly disease, she was more worried about her King Charles Spaniel named Bentley, who also had a potential health risk to the community.

Historically, the relationship between the etiologies of vari- cella and herpes zoster was first suggested by von Bo ́kay in 1892, from the observation that young children often devel- oped varicella after exposure to an adult with herpes zoster (249). Transmissibility of the agent was demonstrated by inoc- ulating children who had no history of varicella with fluid recovered from herpes zoster lesions; these children developed varicella, and secondary
This disease is spread by direct contact. Symptoms are very bad and after it it’s horrible. The disease symptoms will include high fever, body aches etc. This disease is transmitted The CDC has determined “smallpox is an acute, contagious, and sometimes fatal disease by variola virus” (“questions and answers about smallpox disease”). Overview Shingles is a painful rash that develops on a side of the face or body, it will form blisters that will scab over in around 7 to 10 days. Shingles or Herpes Zoster, its more scientific name, is common virus and it is caused by reactivation of the varicella zoster virus, which is the same virus that causes chicken pox. After a the chicken pox virus has been resolved it enter a dormant state in certain nerve cells of the body although for reasons not entirely clear the virus can awaken years later and will travel down the nerve path and cause shingles, the location of the rash depends on where the virus was dormant. Skin is the biggest organ in human body and can be affected by many disease processes. One of them is shingles, a very contagious disease that is caused by varicella zoster virus (VZV). Shingles is caused by reactivation of a previous infection with this virus that results in a very painful localized skin rash usually with blisters (fluid-filled sacs) on top of reddish skin. After a person recovers from chickenpox, the virus stays dormant (inactive) in the body and reactivates years later, causing shingles (Center for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2015). Before rash appears, the patent experiences tingling, numbness, and itching on affected site.
Herpes Zoster(shingles) also known as the reactivation of the Varicella-Zoster virus. Varicella-Zoster virus is another word for the chickenpox. Chickenpox is mainly describe as a childhood infectious disease. If you have developed chickenpox there is a chance you can develop Herpes Zoster. This disease is often presented in elderly because there cellular Immunity is reduced.
When a person becomes infected with the Bubonic plague, it can take multiple days for their body to portray the symptoms. Bubonic plague can not be spread from person to person. Yersinia Pestis could spread to other people who have come in close contact with an infected person (Plague Occurs in U.S., But is Treatable). The infection takes 3-5 days to mature in someone before they would show symptoms of the Bubonic plague (Benedictow). After 1-6 days after coming in contact with Yersinia Pestis, people would be at risk for developing pneumonic plague ( Plague Occurs in U.S., But is
Once the virus gets into the body, symptoms of this condition can take up to 14 days to develop. Symptoms may include: Headache. Stiff neck. Sleepiness or fatigue. Confusion or disorientation.
Although Chickenpox outbreaks are scarce, during the 1800s- 1900s Chickenpox outbreaks were a prevailing issue. “….an extremely contagious viral disease (Funk/Wagnalls 1)....which most people have only once, is rarely a dangerous disease in otherwise healthy children. It can be life-threatening (Funk/ Wagnalls 1)...” Although Chickenpox killed and infected hundreds of people, many beneficial things came out of it Such as the vaccine, known as Gamma Globulin, which can help people suffering from Chickenpox and Hepatitis. Gamma Globulin wasn’t introduced until the late 1900s- years after some of the biggest Chicken Pox epidemics were over.
