Immigration reform can go either way to helping immigrants and asylum seekers or placing further restrictions on their lives by even more punitive laws. The United States has faced a long issue on whether or not should they reform the current laws put in place in order for “Aliens” to be able to live here and become a citizen and get the American dream so many people have come to achieve. Immigration laws should be reformed because America was founded on immigrants, they help make the community, and they contribute to the community. For several years now, Congress has been focusing on a new type of bill or act that will be set in place for current asylum seekers. The most current reform act is the Real ID Act of 2005. Another act would require the reason for their persecution like if they were persecuted due to what their political opinion is, religion, or social group membership. Other effects of the Real ID Act would also raise the bar on obtaining a driver 's license if they are not able to prove that they are in the U.S legally. Law enforcement has even recognized the problem even stating “Drivers licenses are to make the roads safer denying them one would only do the opposite.” Most immigrants work in hard labor jobs with little to no means of public transportation so they will continue to drive without a license. Eleven states have now issued licenses to immigrants without documentation, instead the DMV asks for photo ID, addresses and proof of insurance on file thus staying in view of law enforcement. On the other hand the Real ID Act with what might be called the positive changes leading …show more content…
Not only does the immigrant community contribute work to the country they also contribute art, food, music, dance etc. Americans learn and adapt to some of their cultures yet choose to persecute them and discriminate them for being from another part of the world. If immigrants were all sent back to their home country there would be no art, because most art portraits and sculptures come from famous artist on the other side of the country. The music industry would be different since it would of never evolved into what it is today, by getting a little bit of everything in the world. Everyone likes food there’s a variety of foods but if immigrants weren’t around there wouldn’t be these delicious cuisines people pay top dollar for. Without immigrants in America the clothes industry would have American made clothes which mean no Armani, Gucci, Fendi, Prada etc. that famous or rich people love to wear. In conclusion Immigration reform can go either way to helping immigrants and asylum seekers or placing further restrictions on their lives by even more punitive laws. The United States has faced a long issue on whether or not should they reform the current laws put in place in order for “Aliens” to be able to live here and become a citizen and get the American dream so many people have come to achieve. '' Every immigrant has enriched and strengthened the fabric of American life" a quote from John F. Kennedy. This is one of the perfect examples that explains what occurs when immigrants come over from a war-ridden, economically poor country. They immigrate and while settling, improved their own cultures into ours, although can change for them drastically or not at all.
We sometimes doubt if the U.S Constitution stands for what it says. It states that “All men are created equal” which means that everyone has the same rights, regardless of what sex, religion, race, or appearance. In our society, we have equal rights, case no one man has more than the other. In Arizona there was a legislative bill passed for Arizona Immigration Law otherwise known as SB 1070. The Arizona SB 1070 legislation is unethical because the “probable cause” stipulated in the law both protects and encourages racial profiling, and violates citizen’s rights and dignity.
Illegal Immigration Reform More than 11.4 million illegal immigrants currently reside in the United States that’s almost equivalent to how many people live in the entire state of Ohio. Most of these illegal immigrants are hardworking people that help the welfare of the economy and the have a high impact on the culture of the United States. The proposition is that Illegal Immigrants who have paid there Tax’s and have resided for more than 10 years, consecutively in the United States should be given a way to get a legal residency. This residency would give them benefits like a social security which would let them get a good job and a license and have basic human rights. Illegal immigrants deserve these rights because they create the most business,
With the act enforced, it left immigrants in poverty. With the social welfare already strain and in the need of an overhaul, immigrants are falling through the cracks as far as getting assistance. The dependency of welfare for the immigrants are great due to lack of resources. The children of the immigrants are the ones that suffers the most. According to Berg-Weger, the children of immigrants are more at risk living in poverty and experiencing educational and health care deficits (Berg-Weger, 2013).
Immigration reforms have recently been a brewing topic within the media and has caught many people’s attention. This issue has brought multiple political figures and opinions into the spotlight, each accompanied by a plan and part of a political agenda. Central American immigration into the U.S. still remains unsolved despite the efforts of President Obama, who had promised a comprehensive immigration reform. Some believe that America was built upon immigrants, and that smart immigration practices will benefit the economy and the nation as a whole. However, others feel that immigrants hurt the nation by limiting the number of jobs available to Americans, and bring crime and public insecurity.
There are about, if not more, 11.3 million undocumented immigrants in the United States of America only in 2014. Mexicans make up about half of all unauthorized immigrants (52%), even though their numbers have been declining over the past years. The numbers have declined because it is said that just under Barack Obamas Presidency has deported 1.4 million undocumented immigrants while in office. An immigration reform would be helpful because it would boost the economy, increase tax revenue, decrease government deportation expenses, and in gaining legal status it will help keep families together. Many people oppose it but with the right regulations a reform, which both parties agree on, can be passed.
Immigration Reform: Yes, or No Currently, there is constant dispute over the United States immigration system, pertaining to whether or not it should be reformed and if so how should it be done. Large uncontrolled immigrant population has begun to flourish in this nation due to flaws in the system. Another issue that has arisen in result of this faulty system is unsafe living conditions for both citizens and immigrants moving here. Adding to this, another controversial topic falling within the reforming of the system is its effect on employment rates.
The source, “How Immigrants Positively Affect the Business Community and the U.S. Economy”, is very effective in making its argument. Cesar Maximiliano Estrada, the author, uses examples and statistics as his evidence to prove that immigrants are important in the United States, specifically in businesses and the economy. He shows examples by stating influential entrepreneurs who were immigrants or are children of immigrants “including Google founder Sergey Brin, who fled the Soviet Union as a young boy almost 40 years ago; Yahoo founder Jerry Yang, who emigrated from Taiwan at age 10; and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who emigrated from India.” Estrada also uses statistics “unauthorized immigrants would increase GDP by $1.2 trillion over 10
Immigration gives more opportunities for terrorists, drug dealers, and other criminals to enter the country, but to many Americans the most concerning is increased competition for job opportunities. Since immigrants are willing to work for little to nothing the pay wages and job opportunities are decreasing for hard working Americans. Another potential disadvantage on immigration is the cost that it places on government agencies and taxpayers. Immigration creates greater potential costs for Americans especially to support these types of immigrants -- old, poor, uneducated, and those with large families because each of them will need more care, like education or health care, which leads to more taxes on Americans. It also costs taxpayers more money to pay for the Department of Homeland Security (the DHS administers U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, to ensure that no immigrant represents a threat to the country).
In 1986, a 16 year old girl named Collette journeyed from her home in the island nation of the Bahamas in order to study chemical engineering at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. She was following the wishes of her father and pursuing higher education and a better life in the United States. Her story is one of many, a testament to the strength and prosperity of the United States. Some come here legally, some come illegally, but all share one thing, they believe that this country can provide them and their families with a better future than their home country.
In states like Arizona, the program SB 1070 allowed state officials to profile individuals who presumed to be residing in the state without legal documents. Needless to say, this was a tool used to regulate migration and also a way to differentiate legal residents from illegal residents, which resulted as an inhumane and degrading way to treat these individuals. For that reason, it has become unreachable for immigrants to assimilate into our American society because they are characterized as either aliens, criminals, or
Immigration changed America in a lot of ways. Immigration has brought new cultures to America. I think immigration brings trade to America. Immigration changed America in so many different ways. If we didn’t have immigration, then I don’t think we would be where we're at with technology today.
Despite the multiple attempts at creating a well-rounded immigration reform the United States has failed to achieve the full capacity of the reform. The United States first failure at the reform was in 1986 when congress passed the “Immigration Reform and Control Act”. The purpose of this legislation was to amend, revise, and re-assess the status of unauthorized immigrants set forth in the Immigration and Nationality Act. The content of this bill is overwhelming and is divided into many sections such as control of unauthorized immigration, legalization and reform of legal immigration.
Immigrants are a good thing for America and should be granted citizenship unless they are causing trouble. Some housekeeping jobs and yard work is done by immigrants, both documented and undocumented. Immigrants are useful in the Labor Market. Between 7-8 million of the illegal immigrants
Immigration has always been a crucial topic in the United States government. Especially when it comes to giving amnesty and passing an immigration reform to 11 million immigrants, that live in the country. Many citizens believe that immigrants are detrimental to the well-being of the United States and do not agree with the passage of an immigration reform. One reason is that many believe immigrants take away the jobs of American citizens. Other reasons are that immigrants bring crime to the country and affect the economy.
