As I future hygienist, I plan to educate my patients about tobacco products. Although some of my patients will lie to me about their smoking habits, I will be able to identify suspicious spots by performing the intra and extra oral examination. I believe this is important because we are the first to identify and notice anything suspicious that could affect the body. If I approach a patient who smokes, I will first ask him or her about his or her smoking habits. For example, I will ask the patient how long has he or she been smoking for and the amount he or she smokes a day. This will give me an idea of what to expect when performing any type of oral hygiene procedure. Before continuing with treatment, I will ask my patient if he or she is

Mental hygiene ideas became highly incorporated into psychiatric tactics, because of these rising ideas the mental hygiene movement was established in 1909. Mental hygienist stressed early prevention and diagnosis, because of this they started to focus on the mental health of children. They believed that early childhood experiences influence a person's mental health later in life. Mental hygienists saw that the education system was a suitable place to assert these prevention activities, so they reached out and started programs for teacher education and education reforms in general.
The learning objective I chose to further explore was “Explain the role of the industrial hygienist in anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace environments that may affect the health of the worker.” The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) website has a breadth articles on the specific functions of an Industrial Hygienist. The “Informational Booklet on Industrial Hygiene” has been made public for reproduction and serves as a good overview to explain the role of the industrial hygienist. (Herman & Jeffress, 1998)
I have been able to work side-by-side with a Pathologists ' Assistant since day one and because of this, I fully understand their role in the medical society. I owe a lot of what I learned as a grossing technician to them because of their guidance, input, and examples. The more I asked them questions and the more I watched them work, the more captivated I became by their role and realized I wanted to be in their position. As a result, I believe that my close working relationship with the Pathologists ' and Pathologists ' Assistants, as well as the exposure and knowledge I have gained by working in the department will help me succeed, particularly in Loma Linda University 's Pathologists ' Assistant program. Loma Linda University is a good fit for me a few reasons.
Sue is a dental hygienist, employed in an office with another hygienist. This hygienist has 11 years work experience in this industry. Both Sue and this hygienist shared a good friendship together. However, sue noticed that most of the patients have sub gingival calculus after the other hygienist cleans their teeth. When sue observed careful about how the other hygienist is doing the process, sue could see that she is using an anterior sickle instrument and only scales suprgingvally.
In private-practice, the dental office must work together in order for the office to prosper. Each member plays a significant role, but it is usually the dental hygienist’s role that stands out the most. The hygiene department has a tremendous impact in the dental office. The dental hygienist more or less takes care of the patient’s oral hygiene needs and provides individualized therapy to meet those needs. Re-care systems are built with patients to keep them coming to the office year after year; thus making the dental hygienist an important asset for the dental office’s profit.

I agree Tesheika, Industrial Hygienists have an important role in ensuring that the safety and welfare of workers is a top priority among many businesses and industries. Their job is to enhance worker environments and make them safer, and in doing so make these businesses more efficiently run. Good recordkeeping allows industrial hygienist to form a well-organized understanding of what is known about work environments, what could be improved about an employee’s work conditions and/ or working atmosphere, as well as learn about many issues that may be unknown threats to an employee’s wellbeing. By taking through and detailed notes industrial hygienists are better able to compile accurate exposure assessments and a better understanding of exposures,
Louis, I like that you addressed how our roll as dental hygienists is essential to the education and preventative treatment provided to patients. A major part of what we do for our patients is counsel and teach them appropriate oral hygiene strategies in hopes of encouraging the patient maintain their oral health.
Becoming a dental hygienist has not only been just a dream of mine, but also my fathers. From a young age, my father started inspiring me to pursue a career in the field of dentistry. After countless hours of watching videos, speaking to advisors about the career path, and shadowing underneath Dr. Soltanian’s dental hygienist by the name Ms. Lopez that I solidified the idea of becoming a dental hygienist. I fell in love with becoming a dental hygienist after the first day of shadowing her. The idea of being involved in the field of dentistry has reinforced the idea of promoting proper oral hygiene not just within myself, but with others too.
