Huckleberry Finn Dialectical Journal

In most stories some character goes through their own hero’s journey, in The Adventures of Huckleberry FInn the main character Huck goes on an adventure and goes through his own hero’s journey. Huck lives in the south in the midst of slavery, Huck is trying to escape his own abusive father when he meets once again with Jim, a runaway slave of Miss Watson, trying to get to Illinois. Huck Finn experiences the hero’s journey through The Call, Challenges, and the Transformation. First, Huck experiences the call of adventure when he is placed in custody with Miss Watson and Pap.

Journal #1         Prompt: What negotiation or collaboration did you have with the writer of the novel you are reading? Write about your first meeting with the writer of the novel. What did you discover? Were your expectations met?        

It is easy to read and the story made me feel as I was there, experiencing everything with narrator . The beginning introduction really helped me to realize and appreciate how big the Deaf World is. How it is more than a place or land, but rather “a culture based on relationships among people for whom a number of places and associations may provide common ground”(5). The Deaf World is huge and all encompassing. There isn’t one place that the Deaf migrate but rather there all over the World.

Mark Twain and Charles W. Chesnutt wrote about many similar topics that were based in the 1800 's. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Twain and The Passing of Grandison by Chesnutt are examples of this. The themes of these two stories tie together by the way that the main character is a boy trying to figure things out on his own, the two boys are traveling through most of the story with a slave, and both stories have an ironic twist dealing with the slave that they travel with at the end of the story. In the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huckleberry Finn or Huck for short is the main character. He comes from a background of not having any parents and because of this he is very independent.

Sawyer is so determined to create an unnecessary adventure that he even ends up taking a bullet for the cause! Mark Twain creates a wild character like Tom that has such a distorted view of reality that he believes his own life should be just as entertaining and crazy as the books he has read. Tom tells Huck, “ Why, hain’t you ever read any books at all? … None of them heroes?

“The tale of Lord Zancrist” by April Patterson Clemens is a plot-driven fictional story set in a farm where the main character Peach Blossom is born, The author seems to know her way around the setting as she spent her childhood playing in the Texas woods, When I picked up the book I predicted that the story will be dramatic adventure which I love. The book tells the story of a little girl, who got Kidnapped into slavery and then encounters a strange man who changes her idea about who she is, the unfortunate accidents turn out to be an adventure on her way to self discovery. The main character in the story is Peach Blossom, she’s a playful, lighthearted girl.

Throughout this book tom became more responsible, noble, fair, and mature. Even though Tom behind the book irresponsible he becomes more responsible as the story progresses. In the beginning of the book tom is irresponsible. He's dirty, messy, and a lackluster student. And when the aunt Polly’s cat came along Tom “pried his mouth open and poured down the painkiller”

She is the one that takes charge even when her own son Bailey wanted to make decisions at the end she tend to manipulate him as well. Many things can be shown by the grandmother but as there are many other things that the reader things to find

In my opinion, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is not a good book for 10th graders to read. I will be supporting my opinion with three statements from a blog post that I had read. The First statement is about the writing style and language used in the book. My Second statement will be about how the book is more for adults and less for teenagers. My Third and final statement will be about racism.

The novel, Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn, is a story of a young boy and a slave who ran away from their homes in search of freedom. Even though they were running away from home, they both wanted the same thing. They grew a strong relationship together throughout the book. Jim became the main adult figure in Huck Finn’s life, helping to make decisions but making sure to not be strict like Huck’s home. I think that part of the reason Huck liked Jim so much was because even though Jim was older, he was african-american so Huck felt like he was not being controlled.

In the novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn is Tom’s companion in virtually all of his adventures. Huckleberry Finn is described as “lawless and vulgar and bad” by the adults of the village. Contrary to what the adults believe, Huckleberry Finn is loyal, fair, and unable to control his circumstances. Firstly, “bad” should not be synonym to Huckleberry Finn’s name because Huck is loyal to those who are kind to him.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Essay The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a compelling and adventurous story of a boy named Huckleberry Finn and a slave named Jim, who ran off together. Huckleberry ran away from his drunkard father who locked him away in a house in the woods; while Jim ran away in fear of being sold down the Mississippi River. The two met each other on Jackson’s Island on accident and decided to stick together. Sacrifice becomes a large part of the story as both Jim and Huck make many sacrifices for each other as the story progresses.

A Child’s Journey In life we all face our fair share of moral dilemmas. This statement is more than true for the main character of Mark Twain’s hit novel, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The main character Tom is faced with moral dilemmas in almost every chapter. As well as make a decision at only the age of 11.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, written by Mark Twain otherwise known as Samuel Clemens, is a book about a boy’s adventures down the Mississippi River with an escaped slave. The book is a direct sequel to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, in which Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer receive around six-thousand dollars each at the end of the book. The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin is set in the same town as Tom Sawyer, St. Petersburg Missouri, and starts off with Huckleberry Finn being taken in by a woman, Widow Douglas. Huck Finn is basically an orphan as there is no mention of his mother and his father left town a while ago. Huck Finn is getting tired of Widow Douglas trying to “civilize” him when his estranged and abusive father shows up.
