When Johnny says to Ponyboy, “Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold…” it means to keep all the good qualities that make Ponyboy who he is. It makes reference to the poem that they recited while at the church, “Nothing Gold Can Stay,” which I think means all good things must come to an end. I think that Johnny recognizes the potential that Ponyboy possesses to get out of the slum and make something of himself. Ponyboy must stay gold - keep his purity, and be true to who he is, even after facing the harsh consequences of both boys actions.

Johnny saves children inside of a burning church that was caused by them. Due to his actions that afternoon, he was badly burnt and had his back paralyzed. He can no longer move from his waist down. This quote is said when Johnny dies, he tells Ponyboy this to encourage him to keep going in life. This quote is stated as meaning that when you are young, you see things as new and fresh.

Johnny kills Bob by the fountain so Ponyboy and Johnny had to leave and everything after that happens because of that night. Ponyboy’s unique symbol is gold. Toward the end of the book Johnny told Ponyboy to stay gold. He meant stay true to you, Ponyboy was different than everyone else.

The chapters 1-5 of the Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, is about two gangs the greasers and the Socs, who are always causing trouble. In the greaser gang, the protagonist, Ponyboy, is always getting good grades and is the smartest in the gang. Dally is one of the members in the gang, Ponyboy 's brother, has been in jail multiple times. Sodapop is also Ponyboy’s brother. He works at a gas station.

This novel by S.E Hinton, The Outsiders shows a crucial point that everybody is special in some way and should be known as who they are individuality not as a group. The Outsiders is a book that describes 2 gangs , the luxurious Socs, and the hoodlum Greasers. While they have conflicts with each other, the protaganist, Ponyboy, finds his identity outside of the gang. The important message of the story is that everyone has a unique personality that are developed by being in a group of people away from home, this identity can shape anyone’s way of life and the path they may take in the future. First of all, Socs and greasers have a trademark that showed who was part of their gang, Socs are know for Mustangs, Madras, and leather jackets;

Johnny, the second youngest Greaser, gets jumped by Socs, and has feared them since the incident. Johnny, the loyal gang member, gets described as the gang 's pet. Yet, he still believed in doing the right thing and was the most law-abiding kid in the group. For example, one

Staying Gold “Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold,” are Johnny Cade’s final words to Ponyboy Curtis before he passes away. What did Johnny mean by this? Surely, he doesn’t literally mean stay gold. The Outsiders, written by S. E. Hinton has many themes, including this hidden one.

At the beginning of the story, Ponyboy comes home after curfew, making Ponyboy’s brother “Darry” pretty mad, causing them to start fighting and out of mixed emotion, Darry slaps Ponyboy. Next, Ponyboy and another Greaser, “Johnny,” are by a fountain when a couple of Socs attack, and start to drown Ponyboy. Johnny, after being beaten to near death by Socs on an earlier date, kills a Soc named “Bob” with a switchblade, scaring off the other Socs. Ponyboy’s parents died in a car crash leaving his oldest brother Darrel also known as Darry to take care of his two younger brothers. The middle brother Sodapop is always trying to keep Darry and Ponyboy from fighting. Darry has become more of a parent figure in in Ponyboys life causing a lot of tension between the two. Some of the other main characters are Johnny, Two-Bit, Dallas, and Steve. They are all Greasres and are coincided a gang but just think of each other as friends.

The church that Johnny and Ponyboy stayed in burnt down. Thus, Johnny died. Although they share a great deal of similarities the movie and novel are very different.

He also says that he shouldn’t “…be so bugged over being a greaser. You still have a lot of time to make yourself be what you want.” Johnny is refereeing to how Ponyboy has a bright future and he can make with his life whatever he pleases. Pony finally understood what Johnny meant when he said, “stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold…”

He also finds a way of how to finish the gang that was taking place from many tima.
